Team D/ST (1 Viewer)

I know that defense and kickers are positions that many suggest "just pick 2 in the last 2 rounds & work the WW," but even though I won't waste a high pick on either, I don't want to just throw a pick away either. Most of my leagues don't do points or yards allowed, just sacks, turnovers, and D/ST points scored, and trying to predict fumbles/INTs returned for scores is impossible, so I try to look at those stats which can be (somewhat) more accurately predicted.I usually like to look at defenses that get a lot of sacks, force a lot of turnovers, and special teams who have explosive return men. Igoring teams like the Steelers, 49ers, Ravens who are usually (or just this year) going too soon in drafts for my liking, what D/STs fit all or some of those criteria: accumulates sacks, forces turnovers, has an explosive return game?

Philly had 50 sacks and 24 TOs last year, can they improve those TO numbers this year?

NYG had 48 sacks and 31 TOs last year, who is their returner(s)? Can they get a few ST scores this year?

GB had 3 INT, but only recovered 7 fumbles , & recorded 29 sacks. Can those TO numbers stay that high, and will the sacks go up? Is Cobb returning punts/kickoffs/both?

Arizona's punt return game was deadly last year with Peterson. Who returns kicks for them? How does their D look?

Minny had 50 sacks last year but only 23 TOs. Is their defense (secondary) improved enough to get more TOs? How is their return game?

Comments on these teams, ideas for other D/ST "sleepers?"

I'm going with the Bengals for the first half of the year. Flacco, Weeden, RGIII, Gabbert, Tannihill, Weeden then dump them.

For the year NE and HOU

For the first time this year, I'm in a league that will be using yards against in the scoring. Teams giving up 400 yards will get you negative points so it's gonna be more important to analyze this position.I drafted Houston and am looking at NE on the ww.I think you have the right idea in looking for teams going against young QBs and/or inept offenses.

i grabbed NE and MIA.

NYJx4, JACx2, ARIx2, TENx2, INDx2.

both games against JAX are during the playoff weeks.

Can someone explain how Buffalo is a sleeper all of sudden? Personnel is terrible and Mario Williams is overrated. Texans where better without him.

Was reading somewhere that Seattle D has 5 turnovers in 8 #1 Offensive possesions against them so far in the preseason. Ya it is only preseason but that is huge

If you don't mind waiting until waaaay late to pick your D as I did in a draft tonight, the MIN D faces JAX and IND to start the year. I preferred drafting other positions and taking what was left in round 21, then I'll work the WW once things become clearer later on.

Or you can take the SF D waaaay early only to realize they are at Green Bay to start the season, followed by Calvin/Stafford and the Lions. :)

I'm picking them up late in the season. As far as Qb's their schedule is brutal the first half. Arizona would be a blast week1, then wait until the ponder or Sanchez game to ride them into the playoffs  I'm really looking for pick 6 opportunities or blowout to rack up sacks.
