Team Name Check (1 Viewer)

Bad Company

Most people think it's because I like the rock group, but it's because my ex-wife used to tell me I was "bad company" when she wanted to chat about mundane, meaningless things and I would tune her out.  One of the happiest days of my life when I filed for divorce

This year I'm using Evil Easterbunny... even though the chatter around Jack Easterby ruining the Texans has died down. I've got a pic someone did of a ghostly-looking Easterby with flames looming over NRG Stadium for an avatar.

Kamara Never Comes

Penney For Your Thoughts

Krafty's Massagers

Jamar's Chasers

...............all in the same league.

Love Hurts

I've also always wanted to have a team named Bye Week, just to see how many opponents forget to set their lineup.
We had a guy that did that in a league once and it bought him a win against a guy I'll call Tom, but it only worked because of a specific set of scenarios:

1. We were a 10 team league for years, and had a guy drop out last minute so we played the year with 9 owners.  4 matchups each week and one team would play against a ghost team composed of that week's average team score (manually entered/manipulated by the commish).

2. There was confusion about how the bye week would be scored, some owners did think it was a true bye week.  Tom was one of them that thought this and didn't realize it as he hadn't had his ghost week yet.

3. Tom had two starters get hurt the week before, so two zero's (plus whatever bye week players) in his lineup heading into their matchup.

4. The guy timed his team name change to occur early on Tuesday morning when the site "rolls over" into the next week's matchup.  If he'd named his team BYE WEEK since Day 1 it would have been noticed beforehand.

5. Tom wasn't the most involved owner anyway, usually only checking the site once a week on Saturday night/Sunday morning just to make sure he had a valid lineup.  He told us after the fact "I logged in Saturday night and it said I was facing Bye Week so I just logged out and went to bed".

Brilliant!

I had a team named "a big b##ch" once in a CBS league, just for the weekly recaps - if I won it was always "a big b##ch crushed so-and-so's team by 37 points" or somesuch.

Got into a discussion with a coworker yesterday who told me a little story, so I want to pose a question to the SP. I've seen tons of player name puns as team names, but it's always done post-draft and using the player(s) drafted to those teams.

Is it kosher to name your fantasy team using a player name pun if you don't have that player on your team?

Short version of the story - longtime league replaced one owner with a newbie that only 2-3 others knew IRL. Post draft, the new guy names his team referencing a player that he didn't draft. Team that did have that player wanted to do a similar name, and got mad at the newbie for it. Newbie dug in and won't change his name. Other guy sulks like a child and wants newbie kicked out of the league

Used to work in a brewpub and had The Yeasty Boys. For years now I've been MMMM but the meaning changes.

Mother Mary’s Miraculous Merkins
Marylin Monroe’s Musty Merkins
Misty Mundae’s Messy Merkins
Mickey Mantle’s Masculine Merkins
Marilyn Manson’s Miscrunstrued Merkins
Minnie Mouse’s Miniscule Merkins
Maid Marian’s Merry Merkins
Miss Marple’s Mysterious Merkins
Miss Manners’ Meticulous Merkins
Mrs. Maisel’s Mirthful Merkins
Manfred Mann's Musical Merkins

This year it's Michael Myers' Murderous Merkins

There's no way I could resist throwing gasoline on this dumpster fire.

This year's entries:

Ruffrodys05

Stoner Pickle

Gonna have to take some time to recall the rest I've used over the years.

Most of the league is just ignoring it, letting the long time owner get over it on his own time. Two guys then went and changed their team names to something involving a player on the original owners team. I may or may not be one of the two 🤣

Maybe it's a function of watching too much Chris Berman in my childhood, but I never find a team name based on a player-related pun funny. It feels like the equivalent of a guy who tells you a joke and then nudges you in the ribs to make sure you got it.
