Tech Guys - Laptop Suggestions (1 Viewer)

I am looking for a good all around laptop for school.  I work with large data sets in excel and am trying to teach myself some programming and database stuff also so I need it to have a bit more Hp under the hood.  I like the Dell XPS 13” but looking at a 15” model.  The 15” with 16gb ram, 256ssd, and 8th gen I-7 runs about $1,600.  I would like to keep it around $1,000 or so.  Any advice?

- Mostly browsing, bills, etc

- Occasional need for large data (Excel use)

- Starting to dabble in Sketchup

- Maybe a game every now and then but this is not a necessity.

I like the sleekness of the XPS line.  I have a Lattitude for work now and love it however it’s higher.

I think the XPS line is overkill for what you need the laptop for, you will mainly be paying for that "sleekness" that you like.  I have an older XPS laptop at home, so I know exactly what you mean, they are a pretty nice laptop.  For the usage you listed above I think you'd be fine dropping to 8G of ram and an I-5 processor.  I'd start searching on dell.com based off the SSD then look at a 15inch with the reduced stats and see what the price is.

I-7 and 16GB would really only be needed if you were running some pretty high end applications.
