Ted Ginn Jr. traded to SF (1 Viewer)

Any Gore owners should be relieved. No chance they blow a 1st on Spiller now.
How does aquiring TGjr? equate to no Spiller?
Part of Spiller's appeal was his ability on special teams. They don't need that now.
:lmao: They won't draft a pure backup that early. His return ability was a big reason SF might have taken Spiller. Ginn is a good returner. Now SF can focus on the o-line and defensive backs.

As a 49er fan I'm ok with this as long as the pick is late enough. The reports are saying "late round pick" so we'll see what that means.

Agree, seems like they'll look in another direction for sure.

I'm shocked anyone was willing to trade anything of value for him.
You don't think good kick returners are worth anything?
Looks like a 5th rounder. Considering the 49ers have a huge OT need, one of their 2 picks needed to address that issue. If Joe Haden does fall to them then I think they have to go Haden and an OT. A lot of the mocks are showing Haden now making it down to them and should he be there I think he should be the pick. They are giving up very little to improve the return game so it's a low risk trade.

I called this . . in my own mind last week. Great move for the Niners and one that I was hoping for. The niners return game has been anemic the last few years. I only remember a handful of big plays. The niners should win the field position battles now with pro-bowl punter Andy Lee and return game specialist Ginn.

Big fan of the move.

I'm not. He caught a lot of crap for not being a #1 WR but he's a solid returner and a decent deep threat. He's a good addition to a team looking to improve in special teams.

Only the very top ones, like Cribbs or Sproles. I would think a team could find a fast guy that can't run a route or catch towards the end or after the draft.
You would think so, yet a lot of teams struggle in this aspect. Getting a proven above average return man for a fifth is a deal that should make all Niner fans happy.

If it is a 5th or late then a good deal for SF. Ginn can be a useful slot WR in a West Coast offense I think and he's a good returner although he isn't Hester or Cribbs good.

As a Niners fan I think this is a fantastic move... even for a 4th (if that's what it turns out to be). We've needed a special teams talent forever and Ginn fits the bill perfectly. Plus, our draft history over the past few years with later picks has been pretty weak so it's not like we're giving up a lot to get the guy.

Great move.

Why? I am just curious why this now means they will not go after Spiller? I am hoping they do not as I really want the Seahawks to take Spiller at #14.

Any Gore owners should be relieved. No chance they blow a 1st on Spiller now.
exactly, Im a gore owner in multiple Dynasties. If SF has Spiller high on their boards this move will not preclude them from drafting Spiller. However I think SF can make the playoffs this year and a RB is not the best use of a first round pick for them.

The 49ers are definitely moving in the right direction. Great move.

Ginn is a nice addition to a team with an above average defense and potentially very potent offense. They look like they're ready to make a run at the playoffs and be a pretty scary team to play if they get in.

They shouldn't have too much trouble wrapping up a weakened NFC West.

Adam Schefter says trade was for a 5th.

Spiller provides COP RB, RB of the future, and return game. If they are set on drafting him, they wouldn't fill one of those roles through trade - it would be throwing away picks/money.

As a Miami fan

He and his whole family for any type of pick is a good deal. As a WR4 or WR5 and a returner he is fine but the pick we spent on him irked the fan base for too long.

Yes, it will. They need a backup to Gore but they also needed a returner. Spiller would have been one player to fill two holes. Coffee isn't that good but he's not so bad they can now afford the luxury of filling backups before grabbing desperately needed starters. When you have lots of SF homers telling you this essentially wipes Spiller from the draft board don't you think you should listen?

Im all for it, but I dont think the homers really know what the team is gonna do. NFL teams usually take the highest player on their board regardless of need. If need and best player intersect then even better. personally I dont think they were taking spiller anyway, but this move to me doesnt indicate their draft pick either way.

LOVE this move for the 49ers. Great return man, could stretch the field in some situations. Our return game was pathetic last year, we really needed a good returner, I am excited that we got a great returner!

Does this not kind of open up Spiller to Miami now. I think this is where he goes. RB's getting old and return game could use a new injection

I think Ginn's value as a returner is being overstated here. He wasn't in the top 10 in KR average last season, and last season was by far the best season of his career as a return man. He had two KR TDs against the Jets that, like a lot of KR TDs, were at least partially due to bad play by the kickoff team. How many yards a game does Ginn the return man add over the average returner? 5? Over the 49ers not so great returners... 10?

 :goodposting: FANTASTIC news Dolphin fans !!!! Good riddance Ted Ginn. Can't believe a team gave up a draft pick for him.And for those that commented that he single handily beat the Jets last year . . . . The Dolphins ran all over the Jets last year . . . marched down the field at will. Ginn TD's were just icing on the cake.

Really? Without looking, tell me how many yards you think Miami ran for that day and how many yards you consider "At Will"

And let's say they don't make the deal and use the same draft pick on a return specialist. What would you say the odds are of them landing an average return specialist? One that averages 5 yards more than the average guy?
