The D as a whole blows IMO. This situation could end up being very solid for both West and Crowell. If Tare us out for a long time I think it's a productive RBBC.Biggest takeaway from week 1?
Confirmation that Pittsburgh's run defense blows.
They looked like the Seahawks at home in the first half. The D as a whole blows IMO. This situation could end up being very solid for both West and Crowell. If Tare us out for a long time I think it's a productive RBBC.Biggest takeaway from week 1?

Shanahan zone blocking scheme, IF Tate were to stay healthy, he should have success running in that offense. Actually, any RB should succeed in that scheme. I was actually surprised at Foster's respectable output in a new offense.I stayed away from the Cleveland RB situation because I just didn't like Tate. The OL is good though. This is worth exploring now.
Welcome to "playing w/ FIRE" There is so many "positive" ways to view what is/has happened. If we just consider the potential of three different RB's, it totally kills value ex. Tate is who they wanted n got! They can either push Tate hard, knowing what they have to "fill-in" if needed. Or They can rest Tate if needed for a few games..I stayed away from the Cleveland RB situation because I just didn't like Tate. The OL is good though. This is worth exploring now.
True He might have had a longer run than 16 though if he hadn't bumped into the endzone. Twice.Tate hurt his knee (6-41).
West (16-100 for 6.2 yards per carry, long 29 yards).
Crowell (5-32-2 for 6.4 yards per carry, long 16 yards).
Promising debut for the rookie RBs.
They should just tell Tate he is now #3 and go with these 2 guys. If they work out, you cut Tate and bring back Obygnaya or whatever his name was.West looked much better than I expected him to. A few moves, pretty decisive, and got at least what was blocked if not more most of the time.
But my god, Crowell looked like a monster when he ran. Bigger, stronger, and really explosive when he made his cuts. As a Steelers fan, as productive as West was with his carries, I actually preferred him running over Crowell.
It's going to be very interesting to see how this plays out if Tate is out for a while. Crowell's talent is going to find it's way onto the field.

That Tate contract is generous for the potential he brings. Didn't see the game, but it looked like he was doing just fine till he got injured. They should just tell Tate he is now #3 and go with these 2 guys. I'm not sold Crowell has more talent. The NFL has proven that it doesn't really care about off field issues if a guy has talent. Ray Lewis, Dante Stallworth, and Mike Vick all KILLED people, and dogs, and still got to play football for lots of money.
If Crowell had that much talent in the eyes of NFL scouts, he'd have been drafted.
Crowell has talent for sure. The talk of him being the best RB in this draft based on tape is ridiculous IMO. He's got solid game footage but not spectacular. Many are acting like this is a guy who has 1st round ability but feel only because of off field issues. Well, explain J. Hill then? He had several off field issues, similar to Crowell. He is supposed to be a worse RB prospect and yet he still got drafted in the 2nd, as the 2nd RB overall. The truth of the matter is Crowell is a boob with an over inflated perception of his ability among FFers. I'm probably one of them as well seeing I did expect him to get drafted and him falling out altogether is a surprise to me. Maybe he's good enough to beat out West for the backup position to Tate. I don't see some star in the making here though. The NFL is pretty good at this and when they allow a guy to go completely undrafted, it's not just a character problem.
LOL. Ready to admit you were wrong? No need, you were wrong once that post was made. It's always been pretty clear that Crowell was more talented than West. Anyone who saw otherwise was just lying to themselves.Or they just don't/can't admit they may have been wrong.A guy many thought was the best running talent in this class went undrafted. Maybe he pans out, maybe he doesn't. It's pretty clear that was a bad call either way.
No sugar coating is right. You guys needed to get your eyes checked.jurb26 and Bronco Billy, eat your Crow-ell yet? That along with the fact that he very coaching staff that supposedly doesn't value RBs traded up to get West in the 3rd round. There is no sugar coating this. Crowell simply isn't as good as all the internet experts thought he was.I'm with those that think if he was truly as talented as Waldman and others believe, he would have been drafted.
Can't believe this is really even much of a debate as I think it's West by a mile.
The sample size tells us the Undrafted RB that was supposedly less talented and supposedly fighting for a roster spot in preseason is able to force a timeshare with one that was supposedly more talented (because he was a 3rd rounder). If you want to know which is more talented, you'd have to watch the "tape". Then again, some people watched it and still didn't see it.Both guys are producing. It's pretty clear West is still ahead in the pecking order. No reason to change things. I haven't watched any Browns games, but I'd like to know when and where Crowell's carries are coming. Redzone? Inside the 10? 3rd and long? Every few series?
I don't really see where crow needs to be eaten. Crowell is still 3rd string, and the sample size doesn't ultimately who is the "most talented."
A blurb I read on Tate yesterday mentioned how Crowell might be a threat to Tate's share of touches when he returns. No mention of West in there at all. And this after a game where West out-carried Crowell by only one carry and did less with his carries than Crowell did.Penguin said:I thought I read that Crowell passed West on the depth chart today
ETA: I stand corrected, Crowell ran with the first team today, West with the 2nd.
Crowell took the first reps in individual drills during the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to the media. West went second. Tate rode a stationary bike instead of practicing.
Practice is practice. The game logs show that he is 3rd string. That doesn't necessarily mean he is less talented. Tate is still the starter.Xue said:The sample size tells us the Undrafted RB that was supposedly less talented and supposedly fighting for a roster spot in preseason is able to force a timeshare with one that was supposedly more talented (because he was a 3rd rounder). If you want to know which is more talented, you'd have to watch the "tape". It's pretty clear that Crowell can't be kept off the field because he is more talented despite his draft status and limited work in camp and preseason.
Crowell and West are rotating reps in practice now. That doesn't say "Crowell is 3rd string". That says they're 2A and 2B.
he has alternated series with west. west was getting more series than crowell at first, but as of late it has been an even split. sometimes west comes in on passing downs.SproutDaddy said:Both guys are producing. Yep sounds like a full blown committee to start. It's an easy way of saying cream will rise eventually. I'm putting my money on Crowell, especially since I don't have Tate, haha.Petine was on NFL radio this morning and asked if Crowell has passed West on the depth chart. His answer was no, Crowell was out there and got some reps and the media ran with with.
He went on to praise Crowell, mentioning how he thought it would be a redshirt year for Crowell, but since the last pre-season game a spark seems to be lit and Crowell now feels like he belongs. He praised his work ethic since that game (implied it wasn't that great before).
Lastly, he said Tate is the starter when he comes back. But if one guys has the hot hand on a particular day he'll ride him.
jurb26 and Bronco Billy, where you guys at? West was a healthy scratch. Clearly more talented. This thread is classic. What were the West supporters watching?

seems like a lot has changed. Crowell and West flipped spots on the depth chart, no?It's funny creating some big deal when nothing has changed.
speculate how you want. Tate is the man. These two are in a timeshare if he goes down........as it's always been. Lots of people acting like Crowell has walked away with it. tate is the starter. I'm not disputing that. If tate went down, it's very likely 65/35 crowell/west.speculate how you want. Tate is the man. based on? if you own west, it probably was frustrating seeing him a healthy scratch this past week, but it isn't anything we haven't seen from some of the other board favorites around here (michael and mason). reports on why aren't discouraging. you're just tossing numbers out there that have yet to be seen. if it happens, then i can admit i'm wrong, but there hasn't been anything that happened to show it would be the split you suggest. I'm sure his fumbling issue has to be a concern to the coaching staff, and it's not as if west hasn't produced when given the chance.thehornet said:tate is the starter. I'm not disputing that. I would absolutely be on board, and leading the charge, if Crow hadn't put the ball on the turf 3 times in 9 touches. Regardless of his nice performance on the stat sheet that has to be a big concern and might open the door back up for West.thehornet said:seems like a lot has changed. Sorry, but not sorry. You were dead wrong on Crowell and West, as were others.
You do realize that the most talented runner doesn't always win out, don't you? It happens every year where some shiny new RB has some big runs and people are continually baffled as to why professional football coaches don't give them more PT. The RB game is every bit as much about ball security and pass protection (if not more so) then it is about gaining the most yards per carry.Yes nothing has changed. I'm rooting for Crow but this one is far from decided. And either way there is no question that Tate is the lead back and will dominate touches as long as he is healthy. That should be the clearest takeaway from the last two weeks in Cleveland.

And before you go off and spike the football again, if you were as brilliant as you seem to think you are, you'd realize this isn't over yet and has some years to play out, and that you might want to wait a while before declaring victory and trying to push people's noses in it. I don't have a dog in this fight, but it might serve you a lesson in adulthood if this situation were to flip again in the future.
With that, I'll step away from this and let you enjoy yourself with your pathetic little victory dance.
