no arbitrary number makes any sense - whether it is three season or 10G yards
True, however 10,000 shows a career. The Hall is about a career and not 1, 2 or 3 season play maker.
I think the Hall of Fame is a measure of a player's accomplishments. Terrell Davis accomplished more in 4 years than several HoF backs did in 10+.

he accomplished more in his 7 seasons than several of the RBs with 10G were able to accomplish in their yeasrs. Here's the list of all RBs who have 10G:

1.  E Smith      18355

2.  W Payton      16726

3.  B Sanders    15269

4. *C Martin      14101

5. *J Bettis      13662

6.  E Dickerson  13259

7.  T Dorsett    12739

8.  J Brown      12312

9. *M Faulk      12279

10.  M Allen      12243

11.  F Harris      12120

12.  T Thomas      12074

13.  J Riggins    11352

14.  O Simpson    11236

15.  R Watters    10643

16.  E George      10441

17. *C Dillon      10429

18.  O Anderson    10273
In a short period of time, TD was able to do more in the NFL than many of those RBs listed above.
39.  T Davis        7607
Other active RBs likely to join the 10G club include WDunn, FTaylor and Edge - why should those three backs be eligible for HOF and not TD?

TD was a dominant player, but to say that the Broncos won the SB only because of him, is rediculous. Although in Fantasy Football we often forget, football is a team game. The Broncos won because they had a HOF QB, HOF TE, a possible HOF WR (Rod Smith), a very good defense, a HOF OL (if there were such a category), AND TD.

If the system weren't so successful, we wouldn't spend so much time worrying whether it'll be Ron Dayne or Tatum Bell, would we?

TD was special no doubt, but if I were a voting member, I probably wouldn't vote him in.

:goodposting: Actually, great post, not just good.

- HOF QB & TE

- Very good (not HOF IMO) WRs in Smith and McCaffrey

- At least 4 OLs who made Pro Bowls at some point, plus a HOF-caliber OL coach if there were such a thing

- Great head coach as well (HOF caliber? not sure)

- #4 ranked defense in 1997 and #12 ranked defense in 1998

- And while not likely to make the HOF, Elam was one of the best kickers in the league

I doubt the HOF voters will overrate Davis's impact like many do on this board.

They had all those thing PRE-Terrel Davis, and didn't sniff a Bowl win - with TD, they dominated both their Bowl games on the ground.

Elway/Smith/Sharpe were unable to deliver a SB until they had TD running the ball.

The OL were def. top-notch - and some will probably make the HOF. SS, RS and Elway ar elikely HOFers. So, why not TD????

(note - I have no love for the Donkeys or TD, I just don't understand any of these counterarguments for why TD does not deserve serious HOF consideration)

This is only partially true. Rod Smith and TD came into the league together. It was Anthony Miller before that, with the Three Amigos before him. In 1995, Shannahan took over the Broncos. He signed Mcaffrey, brought in Smith, drafted TD, and several other top free-agent moves which propelled the Broncos run. I think this is when they started the zone-blocking scheme and the O-line became great. Basically, in 1995, alot of great things happened at the same time, which lead to two SB's.

It becomes difficult to say what was the biggest reason for improvement - TD, Smith/Mcaffrey, Shannahan & blocking schemes, etc. We can also say that Denver hadn't won a playoff game until 2005 w/o TD (of course, this is confounded w/ Elway retiring as well).

I believe alot of the anti-TD in the HOF is because he was a 6th rounder - he didn't have the pedegree to be a top draft pick, therefore he can't REALLY be that good. Therefore, he MUST be a product of the system.

I strongly disagree. Nobody was calling him a "product of the system" until the string of replacements came in and rushed for 1,000. I think the fact that he was a 6th round pick is either a non-factor, or if anything will actually work in his favor (much like the fact that Rod Smith was undrafted will eventually work in his favor in HoF discussions). To the product of the system arguement, I ask again... how many pro bowls and All-Pros has Denver produced since Davis?

T/Y for the correction - I am def. not the Bronco historian I think I am.

Less than 31% of the people who have voted in this poll have voted 'yes', so I think it would be more fair to say that a lot more people are underrating Davis' impact than overrating it. :)

You have already said it, but I will say it again:Pro Bowls - 1

All-Pro's - 0
