Terrence Newman vs Jon Kitna (1 Viewer)

In the war of words between the Cowboys and Lions, Kitna said that Newman was the best DB they had but he was no Marcus Trufant, he's not somebody you'd be afraid to throw at. To which Newman replied that he could easily afford a 20,30,35 thousand dollar fine or whatever so watch your *ss, revenge will be sweet. The NFL has told Newman that they will be watching him very closely during the game and that any punishment would be severe for flagrant hits.

That's a paraphrased version from NFL Live.

If you were a profesional QB, do you really think this kind of pre-adolescent stuff would bother you? I mean at all?? Seriously?

Honestly? No. I'd think "My lineman will be sure that he's the one person that won't get near me."

Sweet, then it worked. He fakes a blitz and then drops back into zone coverage while Ware was the real blitz. Lineman bites, Ware gets the sack. Mission accomplished. The fact that the lineman is even thinking about 'the one person that won't get near' Kitna, means that they are in their heads.

I guess I have a higher opinion of professional football players knowing what their job is and how to do it than you. Seems to me the only thing that really comes out of all this is the fact that Newman knows Kitna was right, that the other player probably really was better, and now he's trying to make a big blather to get himself some attention. Otherwsie he'd just go out and walk the walk rather than talk the talk. But that's just my view of these "look at me" antics.

You already agreed with me that it would affect the play, so I don't know why you are even bothering to argue at this point. You proved me correct. How that makes you have a higher opinion of pro players, I have no clue.As far as Newman, he is considered one of the top 5 corners in the league. Several national analysts have commented on that this year. He doesn't have anything to prove to Marcus Trufant. But it IS a nice motivating factor for an 11-1 team coming off of a big game. Takes away the let-down factor.

I thought TN said something to this effect:

His mouth is cashing writing checks that his ### can't cash.

This is going to be good

I think Kitna is more worried about the bigger guys who are sure to sack him given how many times he has been sacked this year.

With Ware (10 sacks) on one side and Ellis (10.5 sacks) on the other, you are probably right.

I'm not trying to "prove" anything to anyone, just offering my opinion. I didn't realize we were locked in some sort of big debate. But if it makes you feel all "Newman-ny" to declare victory, then please, feel free to do so. You can even throw in a "nanny-nanny-boo-boo" if you'd like.

Now what if Newman gets into his own head and on a blitz has a chance to sack Kitna but knowing that any hit he makes will be overanalyzed by the league lets up a little bit and Kitna manages to avoid the sack. Who knows how it'll play out but I don't think that going public with your willingness to pay a huge fine for a cheap hit is a good idea.

I could be wrong but I think this was all for intimidation purposes.I wouldn't worry about Newman getting to Kitna and pulling up. He has 0 sacks this year. He's a cover corner, not a blitzing linebacker. That said, if he makes the Lions think he's going to blitz, it could be pretty useful. Who knows.

It would've been a lot more fun if he just said, "let Kitna say what he wants I know he's not even half the QB that Romo is."

In a perfect world Detroit would call a draw in which Terrance Newman would blitz from the corner and get crushed by an O-lineman, DeMarcus Ware would crush Kitna a split second after he handed off to Kevin Jones who would blow past a lost Brady James for a TD. Is that too poetic?

No. As a Bears fan I've seen enough Lions games to know to never draft a Detroit player except Jason Hanson. :lmao:

I could be wrong, but do linemen usually block corners? T-New will have no problem getting around the Lions tackles. Better leave KJones or the TE in to protect Kitna. Besides, this is the Lions, would you feel protected?

If the Cowboys can be drawn into a pissing match with inferior opponents that might cause tempers to flair, hits to become flagrant, and injuries to be risked they are idiots. Right now they have the inside track to the Superbowl. They are a game ahead of Green Bay, own the tiebreaker, and are still a little healthier. They would have to be raving idiots to risk antagonizing a team that cannot hurt them in the standings, but who could, if antagonized, hurt key cogs Dallas needs to have a post season prayer. Imagine Dallas winning this game and the war or words but at the cost of a cheap shot injury to Romo or Owens. If either of those two go out Dallas' season ist kaput.

Of course they may be just that stupid. LOL @ their fans hoping they take up this fools challenge instead of keeping their eye on the prize.

Redskins fans knocking Newman is just shocking.

I don't think there is a player in this league that likes it when you question their ability. I certainly wouldn't want one on my team.

LOL @ fans who can't read. Where has anyone said they should 'take up his challenge'? Its pure intimidation. They aren't actually going to risk a cheap shot. But having Detroit worried about it could prove strategic.Besides, they need something to get them up for the game after playing real competition in the Packers team last week. If there was no controversy, this week would likely be a let-down week.

This has kind of been reported like it just happened. This was from Kitna talking to a Seattle radio station (probably why he used Trufant) at the end of LAST YEAR after the Lions beat the Cowboys to finish 3-13. Its just now coming to the forefront because Dal/Det is playing this week.

This statement from Newman, prompting the letter from the NFl, was from a Sirius radio interview Tuesday.
"Basically what it boils down to is you've got to watch what you say. Your mouth can't write checks that your (expletive) can't cash. That's what it comes down to," Newman said. "Everybody's going to see those quotes. He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge, because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars), however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet definitely.
I was kind of wondering why he'd use Trufant as an example. Not that I don't think he's a great corner, he is, but he's hardly mentioned among the best of the best. He's one of those "shade below Pro Bowl" level players. He's also the biggest reason I do not like the idea of SA's big contract causing cap issues as I believe he's a UFA after this season and a) he's a great player and leader of the team and b) I love players that get to play for the team they grew up around (Truf is from Tacoma and went to UW). End of hijack.

How so?

Kitna's linemen haven't protected him from anybody this year. He taking sacks like crazy, so this talk has to get in his head a tiny bit.

Personally, I don't think he makes it through the whole game. Somebody is going to light him up, fine be damned. :goodposting:

I'm a big TNew fan, but he went overboard with threatening a fineable hit. He'd take it back if he could I'm sure.

No Marcus Trufant? You'd think he would pick a top CB in the league like Champ Bailey or something. I rarely ever see CBs scared to throw Trufant's way.

And if the Lions were 12-0 TN would not have said a word. Kitna has been sacked so many times this year this threat is meaningless. Not to mention the Lions are on a downword spiral losing 4 in a row.

A flagrant hit after a statement like that would probably net Newman a suspension AND a fine. If anything he should be extra careful now.

LOOK AT ME I SIGNED A 33.4 MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT AND I'M READY TO SPEND $30,000 ON A PRE-MEDITATED CHEAPSHOT FINE BECAUSE HE SAID BAD THINGS A YEAR AGO. WHEN I HIT HIM HE'S GOING TO NOXPLODE!!!!!1111

Barking up the wrong tree here guy.
How so?
I don't want to be the first one to tell you this, but Ditkaless Wonders can read.

Terrence Newman

"Basically what it boils down to is you've got to watch what you say. Your mouth can't write checks that your (expletive) can't cash. That's what it comes down to," Newman said. "Everybody's going to see those quotes. He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge, because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars), however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet definitely.
2/10

Newman hasn't had a sack since 2005 and has had only 2 sacks in his career. The only time he will be within hitting distance of Kitna will be on one of probably many int returns during the game. I haven't seen Newman take a cheap shot since he has been with the Cowboys so I thinkg people who are taking this threat seriously are being a little foolish. This is an attempt to get in Kitnas' head and hopefully he will try to throw a pass againts "Trufant Jr."

Its amusing to see Kitna backing off his comments and say they were a joke and taken out of context when they have the recording and you can tell it was not a joke and the quotes were certainly in context to what he was saying. Something tells me that Kitna finds his way to the bench by half time.

Newman tackles like Dion Sanders, he is not a hitter.

The NFL is. Never a great idea to have the fine makers watching specifically for you. And as I'm sure you know, most hits on QBs come on plays other than sacks.

If the Cowboys can be drawn into a pissing match with inferior opponents that might cause tempers to flair, hits to become flagrant, and injuries to be risked they are idiots. Heh, evidently not. He's claiming that Dallas fans are 'hoping they take up this fools challenge'. Where has that ever been posted?

Good for the NFL but they won't have cause to fine Newman since what I was trying to say is that Newman doesn't blitz much and I am sure you know that Corners don't hit QBs much outside of a blitz.

A flagrant hit after a statement like that would probably net Newman a suspension AND a fine. If anything he should be extra careful now.
the only fine T-New will be paying is for excessive celebration after an INT for TD. (sadly, for my Lions)

SO wrong. You can say a lot of things about Newman, but he doesn't tackle like Deion Sanders. Newman is a great tackler for a corner.
