Texans RB Jonathan Grimes - "Grime Time Revisited" (1 Viewer)

Grimes has a YPC of only 3.9 on 10 carries, but 3.6 after contact and his longest run was only 8 yards!

If youre looking for a sleeper in this backfield Id look to Alfred Blue instead. Wouldnt shock me for Blue to win the number 2 job. I appreciate Grimes effort (5th try to make the team) but he certainly doesnt stand out. Just from the eyeball test Blue looked more talented the other night IMO.

Jonathan Grimes has emerged as the favorite for the Texans' primary backup running back job.

Coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Grimes is ahead of rookie Alfred Blue, while veteran Andre Brown seems to be pulling up the rear. Grimes had impressive measurables coming out of William & Mary two years ago, running 4.53 at his Pro Day with a 38-inch vertical and explosive 10-foot-5 broad jump at 5-foot-10, 207. He's worth considering late in re-draft leagues and rostering in Dynasty. There are reasons to believe Arian Foster's body is beginning to break down
So is there a chance that he's better than Blue?

As a penn state fan it seems that O'Brien doesn't care as much abt pure "talent" as he does abt you doing your job and holding into the ball as I believe belton to be far more "talented" than zwinnak but yet gave up a lot of carries to zwinnak

If grimes does as he's asked perhaps he holds some value this yr behind foster

Um... feels like Rotoworld may be jumping the gun a little. Here's the actual article they based their recent Grimes blurb on:

Andre Brown was signed during the offseason to be Ben Tate’s replacement.

But Brown did not take the field last Saturday during a blowout preseason road loss to Arizona and again saw his carries limited Monday during practice. With Brown appearing to be the Texans’ No. 4 running back, Jonathan Grimes maintained his new role as Arian Foster’s backup and rookie Alfred Blue again trailed Grimes in the rotation.

“Grimes’ experience overall probably has him a little ahead of Alfred,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “But Alfred’s doing a good job for a guy that just got here.”

As for Brown: “He’s battling out there. … He’s out there. He’s involved with special teams and things like that,” O’Brien said. “But that’s a challenging position, it’s a competitive position.”
Seems to me that Grimes is kind of getting some veteran treatment/placement on the depth chart, but they feel good about Blue. Maybe that's just me, but I don't read that as a ringing endorsement of Grimes so much as a complete indictment of Andre Brown.

Houston (CBS Houston) - After just one preseason game the Texans have released running backs Dennis Johnson and Andre Brown, according to multiple reports. Brown, who led the Giants in rushing last year, didnt log much playing time in the Texans 32-0 loss to the Cardinals.

Johnson went to camp last year with the team, but was cut in the 53-man trim. He later rejoined the team after a stint in Cleveland.

With Arian Foster sidelined by injury, Jonathan Grimes and Alfred Blue have been receiving the majority of the reps. The Texans also worked out three running backs Monday, including Ronnie Brown.

I think I like Blue a little better. Grimes has shown to be fairly pedestrian, though his sample size is very small.

Blue isn't shfty, but can get downhill in a hurry. I could see him having a few productive seasons until the pounding catches up with him.

So.... gun to your head, who is Foster's handcuff right now? The more I read, the more confusing it is.
I would say grimes. Blue is promising as well, but I think O'Brien will ease him in since he's a rookie. Watching this team the last few years, Grimes has really reminded texans fans of Foster. Similar styles, both not fast or quick, but very fluid, smooth. I think Grimes has talent in the right system. He's being trusted so far with the job, he beat out Andre Brown, a veteran, so badly that Brown was expendable. Grimes has always looked good for the Texans in preseason, and was the line brightspot in the Texans final game in 2013 when he got the start. I say Grimes is the one to own, but Blue will be heard from later this year, and definitely in 2015.

Can I take someone not on the roster?
Anyone particular in mind?

I'm in the middle of some slow drafts, and Foster's handcuff can easily turn into a valuable asset, as we all know.
Not really. I just don't think any of those guys are potential RB2s fantasy wise if Foster is missing time. Or serviceable in real football for that matter. It wouldn't shock me for them to pick up a player who gets cut by another team (Tampa? Jets? Oakland? Dallas?) and then he slides into the backup spot after a week or two.

Jonathan Grimes is averaging 3.8 yards after contact/carry. Of RBs with 10+ carries, he has the highest Elusive Rating.
