Thank Obama For Your Higher Gas Prices (1 Viewer)

The whole gas price thing cracks my #### up. There was a time not so long ago where two Nigerians with a 5 gallon bucket would tap into an oil line and oil prices would sky rocket with gas following close behind. Now with the current volatile ISIS Middle East situation, prices are lower than we have seen them in years. Hold onto your #### because as soon as the speculators decide its time to stick it up our ### we will be back to $4:00 dollars a gallon.
That's why I'm stockpiling gas and fuel saver.

My folks have mineral rights in the EFS stemming from the house my grandfather built.. the house my dad grew up in. They have been waiting for years for them to get started on their property. They literally started fracking/producing like 2 months back.

Of course its overall a good thing.. but coming from a doom and gloom pessimistic German family, its pretty hilarious seeing TI dip from $100 in June to $55 when the checks are supposed to start coming in.

I read in the Wall Street Journal that so long as prices remain this low, Keystone doesn't pencil out. It would be interesting if, after all the debate, the pipeline wasn't built because investors bailed on it.

Or maybe the current low prices are a conspiracy to bankrupt US oil producers?

Wonder how long the Saudis are willing to eat into their economy** to drive out the North American frackers? Surely they don't plan to drive off the cliff and turn into Greece Part Deux?

** I know the Saudi production facilities can pull oil out of the ground for couch change per barrel. But their overall economy needs a certain per-barrel price ($70 or so?) to remain solvent in the long-term.

Bluntly: is fracking/shale oil production a mature enough technology that everyone involved is pretty sure there are no more efficiencies to be gained anywhere in the process, and that getting oil out of shale can positively not be done significantly cheaper?

Grasping at straws a bit ... just kinda hoping technological advancement might help here.

While the price hit may shut down some oil production domestically in the short term, as soon as the prices go back up, the infrastructure for fracking in OK & ND is still in place, and the production will ramp right back up with much less pain than it took to get to the point we are at today in production capability.

OPEC has to know that they can't price us out forever. Its not like if some oil company goes belly up there won't be another group ready to buy up their equipment and rights to land from the banks as soon as the prices go back up and justify the cost of operations.

Just developing the system in house to produce this much oil has put the ME oil business on notice. They will have to share for the foreseeable future.

Paid 2.01 this morning. Thanks a lot, Obama.
Anywhere convenient to get to from the NOLA metro area?

Around me, the cheapest is in the mid-$2.20s ... though the rate of change has been precipitous. WIll definitely be below $2.00 locally by New Year's Day.

EDIT: Heck -- the Sam's and Costco in Baton Rouge are down to $1.86 today :excited: Too far for a road trip, but a certain preview off what's to come down here.

EDIT2: And I see that the cheapest in Metairie is now $1.99, with lots of places in Metairie/Kenner down in the $2.0X range. Awesome. GB gasbuddy.com.
Yeah, looks like Costco in New Orleans is 1.99 today.

As I said:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101752227

Sectarian violence in Iraq sent the price of oil skyrocketing on Thursday, propelling both Brent and West Texas Intermediate up more than two percent amid growing concerns about a threat to global supply.

After a delayed reaction to turmoil raging in the country, oil prices soared as open warfare between rebel forces—threatening a reconquest of Iraq barely a few years after U.S. forces departed—and the government spilled on to the world stage. Iraq is a member of OPEC, second only to Saudi Arabia as one of the world's largest producers of crude.
Well, there goes cheap gas.

In all fairness to Jim11, race baiting is his bread and butter. He took a chance on this thread and it didn't work out for him. I give him props for going out of his comfort zone.

Just got a gallon of gas here in Northern Va. for $2.87.

ETA:Actually I got ripped off compared to some other prices in the area.Down to $2.64 around town!

http://www.virginiagasprices.com/Fredericksburg/index.aspx
Two months later and down to $2.16 at my Costco now.Somewhere Jim11 has to be smiling at the reverse jinx he put on here, well done!
I think you're lying. Who buys one gallon of gas?
Some people do who own scooters(and I do own one)but mine rarely if ever gets used.

Can whoever has the Jim11 alias these days start a thread, "Thank Obama For Higher Cancer Rates"? Or maybe "Thank Obama For All The Violence In The Middle East"?

haven't you heard, the US is the largest producer of oil in the world. We are going to crush OPEC

Go to any article at nation.foxnews.com and then visit the comments. Dollars to donuts says you'll find a blue billion comments just like the "super genius" mensa guy Jim11.

Please tell me this is sarcasm.

things just seem to be getting better and better under this guy; stock market at all time highs, cheap oil, cuban cigars, budget deficit down under 500B and continuing to fall. i'm getting sick of all this good news.

Don't worry. Presidential election in less than two years.

More good news. I love presidential election season. Its the only time I'm active in the political threads.

Someday I'm going to go to a gay wedding where people are smoking weed and Cuban cigars, and then go get my pre-existing conditions treated at a hospital for the cost of my copay. Then I'm going to just laugh and laugh and laugh about what an amazing world we live in.

I'll admit things have been improving, but I'm still pretty pissed about the healthcare reform act. That clusterfrick is going to be an issue for decades to come.

Yeah, there's no way we can possibly handle both more people being covered and the rapid slowing in the growth of health care spending that has accompanied it. Total disaster.

I can't make any sense out of it with all the bs rhetoric on both sides. All I know is that my premiums are extremely reasonable so I haven't been directly affected by any of it. Its neither a positive or negative for me.

"Just say No" to premiums.

"Rapid slowing" would be a good name for a new age romantic easy listening instrumentalist quartet.

Of course, Obama opposed gay weddings and more drilling,...

The whole thing isn't even in effect yet. More fun to come. But then again, I don't qualify for reduced premiums, so my costs are more than doubling in January.

If a family of 4 makes more than like $80k they are getting screwed here. But somebody has to foot the bill, I guess. Might as well be those who have put in the time at school, college and go to work everyday. Why not let those who screwed around in HS, maybe or maybe not got their GED, spend most of their money on liquor and lotto, and can't hold down a blue collar job get free healthcare on my dime. Why not.

I'm all for helping people who have had a stretch of bad luck and for helping kids in poverty, but that's not all that is happening here. By making all charity and medical assistance come from the government, its now all by the numbers and, yay!, we get another part of our lives controlled by the federal government.

That whole system is a piece of crap and there are no stats that will make me feel better about how much I'm getting screwed by it.

His opinions have evolved.

"Ultimately, I think the Equal Protection Clause does guarantee same-sex marriage in all 50 states"

Wait, what is the drilling part of this? Is that a gay thing?

Down to about $2.65, $2.70 at most stations around Los Angeles, which is amazingly low. Thanks Obummer!!!!!JUAN
you can thank the drill baby drill crowd

obama tried to stop drilling in capacities where he had the power to do so
Then I don't understand why gas prices were so high just two months ago. I guess all those great new drilling sites all opened up, synchronously, at that time. THANKS OBAMA!!!!11

Yet our oil production is at all time high over the last three decades under his presidency.
in spite of him
