Thankful - Memorial Day (1 Viewer)

agree thankful for all who paid the ultimate price for my freedom and for those who serve take care honor them and enjoy the day

I'm fortunate that all of my close family members who are vets made it through those days alive.

My dad Roy, Uncle Dave, Uncle Dan....

Thank you to all their brothers and sisters throughout the generations that gave their lives.

Rest in peace, heroes...

Spot on Joe.  I am incredibly thankful for those who served and provided us the freedom and life we have today.  Generations before us knew what living in a  in war time era really was.  Can't even imagine getting that call. Thanks to all of the families who served as well.  Heroes indeed.

@Joe Bryant I appreciate the sentiment, and surely all my fellow FBG vets do as well.

But I don’t think I’m being in pedantic in pointing out “Memorial Day is ... a time to remember the folks that have served our country” misses the mark. We have a day set aside for that occasion on - November 11, Veterans Day. It is a bit irksome when people conflate the two.

Memorial Day is specifically to honor those who died while in service our country.

But again, thank you for making the effort to give honor where honor is due. I’m grateful to live in a country where we are recognized often for our contributions to maintaining our way of life.

Those who gave all deserve their own day, as a sign of the elevated level of respect and honor due to them.

Apologies for "irking" you.

I thought i was clear with the copy and the photo from the funeral but clearly missed the mark for you. Thanks for the feedback and I'll try to be more clear next time.

Appreciate your sensitivity.

Sitting in a Zoom meeting this morning listening to my friend Steve talk about the three shipmates he lost in Vietnam - he named each of them, is still in contact with their families 54 years after that day - I’m reminded how important it is to keep the distinction in mind.

Absolutely important.
