That Metal Show (1 Viewer)

yeah the show has run its course. And IMO the next big 4 in thrash metal is:1 - Testament2 - Exodus3 - Death Angel4 - ForbiddenOverkill sucks
TestamentExodusDeath AngelPanterabut you could sub Sepultura, Flotsam and Jetsam, Death, Napalm Death or Nuclear Assault in the fourth position and I would be fine but not Overkill
apparently there is the big 4 + 3. Tons of other bands could snag that 8th overall spot. Personally I dont think Pantera was part of the late 80s movement more of a early 90s thing. Probably the best band of the ones being considered for th spot.Mercyful Fate, Coroner, Sepultura, Kreator, Destruction, Morbid Angel and on and on

Those bands are all a lot better than Overkill.

Glad to see Death Angel getting some well-deserved respect in this thread. The Ultra-Violence and Frolic Through The Park were just amazing albums. While Act III had some killer tracks, A Room with a View was tough to get past. Then the name change to The Organization with a more funky approach was the end for me.

Overkill was a great band in their day. Since they were local, I saw them many times live and they always put on a great show. While I loved the album Years of Decay, I thought the production was too slick and took away from the raw, punkish sound that I liked about them. They sounded too much like Anthrax now. It was the last album I bought from them.

I'll keep Pantera off my list too since they were more of a next wave. For early thrash, rounding out the Top 8 for me is:

Sepultura (tied with Slayer at the top)

Exodus

Suicidal

Voivod

I watch this show every week. Some episodes are good, others I feel like I'm killing time. But I've spent so much time whining over the years that these channels bombard you with wall-to-wall pop and ignore the rock/metal genre that I feel like I'm obligated to watch.

:lmao: That's how I feel. It's better than nothing but I wish they were a little more creative and mixed it up a bit. They're also very limited without the ability to actually play the music.

It does get awfully repetitive sometimes. You can almost write the top 5 segment before it happens.Trunk : "Okay, our top 5 metal guitarists, flip the board over, Jen.... OK, for my 5, I had Glenn Tipton, of course, from Judas Priest, Dave Murray from Iron Maiden, Alex Lifeson from Rush... great, great guitarist... Ace Frehley, of course - can't forget him, and #1 is Rudolf Schencker from UFO !"

Jamieson : "At #5 I had Shlomo Shlebotnick from the band Rectum Farm - if you don't know them, they're an awesome band from Jersey who have been around 20 years and sold 48 albums, they played my nephew's bar mitzvah last weekend in Kearney, #4 is Dave Murray from Maiden, #3 Angus Young - how can you not have Angus on there? #2, I went with some heavier stuff, Kerry King from Slayer, and #1 was Glenn Tipton."

Florentine : "I also had Glenn Tipton in there, loved his work on 'Screaming For Vengeance', which is what Eddie was doing backstage earlier after smelling one of my fahts. Dave Murray at #4, I had Kirk Hammett from Metallica at #3.... come on (exhorting crowd to get behind the pick) guys, Kirk Hammett? #2 I had Dave Mustaine of Megadeth and at #1, I also had Rudolf Schencker."

Trunk : "OK, well right away, we have to put Tipton, Murray, and Schencker up there.... put Tipton at #4 for now..." etc etc.

I can tell from Trunk's tweets they are really on a shoestring budget. No way they can afford a Scott Ian, which in itself is kinda sad.

I don't hate Jamieson and Florentine, they are kinda charming aging metalheads like the rest of us but they used to be funnier. They actually used to crack me up with some of the remote bits they would do.. those are long gone.. guessing VH1 won't pony up the scratch anymore.

Even though Death Angel recorded their first album in my home town, I missed the boat on them. But I saw them live a couple of years ago and they were awesome.

Yeah, they created a show for metal fans. I'm going to watch until it gets canceled.

Should have a pretty good soundtrack.

I thought the year ender was one of the better episodes. Two comedians & two guitar players. Fun to watch Yngwie sitting off to the side doing the solo fadeouts to commercial.

Pretty good season overall. Some thoughts:

• I remember liking Lita Ford as a kid. It was cool to have a chick metal guitarist. But she was awful as a guest musician. Worst guest musician since Jake E Lee from last season.

• Really enjoyed the Lamb of God interview.

• Really envy the audience members that won instruments during Stump The Trunk. I wanted to submit trivia when I saw the live taping, but I don't really care about Kix or Blue Oyster Cult.
