The 2007 Rookie Highlight Reel + Some Draft Analysis (1 Viewer)

BigTex

Don't mess with Texas
For those that'll be making decision on who to draft, a good highlight reel wouldn't hurt to help make your decision.

This spring/summer dynasty leaguers will be making crucial decision on the future development of their respected teams. So there's nothing like a good highlight reel to help make that decision.

QBs

BigTex: Troy Smith

Position: QB

Ht: 6`1` - Wt: 215

Position Rank: 2

Overall Rank: 18

40 Time: 4.6

Compares to: Drew Brees (but faster)

PROS

Picture perfect mechanics, has great accuracy and an incredible 5:1 TD to INT ratio as well as a great completion percentage thus far his senior season (68%). He puts a nice touch on the ball, and leads his receivers well. Has developed into more of a pocket passer but has the ability to break off a big run if he needs to. He is very evasive in the pocket and rarely is sacked. Eyes are always up field. A gamer, comes up big in big games.

CONS

Had a great team around him at Ohio st. and some great recievers. Two biggest concerns are his size (only 6`1` 215 lbs.) and his lack of 1st round throwing power.

UPSIDE

Stud. A complete QB, who will be passed up by teams simply because of his size.

Kenny Irons

Position: RB

Ht: 5`11` - Wt: 200

Position Rank: 4

Overall Rank: 14

40 Time: 4.4

Compares to: Cadillac Williams

PROS

Irons has good speed, and runs very hard. Has great vision and hits the whole hard. For a smaller sized running back he fights very hard and does not give up after the first hit.

CONS

Had a down senior year. A little small for a running back and needs to put on some more weight. Needs to work on catching out of the backfield.

UPSIDE

Stud. Just needs to add some weight, and he will be a very good back.

I appreciate the hard work put into finding info and clips. However, I think that many people put too much emphasis into highlights when analyzing future prospects. I know time and time again, people here- good posters (IMO)- were down on Addai pre-draft and most commented- he did not look special on the highlights. If you did highlights of the 2006 season, Norwood would have looked much much better than Addai. Domanick Davis would not have looked particularly impressive on the highlight reel out of LSU and Rudi Johnson would not have looked great either. The highlights rarely show things that can dramatically affect young player playing time, like blitz pick up, correct situational play (picking up 4 yards on 2nd and 6 rather than risking a small loss to make a huge gain.)I am not trying to throw water all over the highlight reel. I love to watch them. It is just important to remember that there are many critical situations that take place and speak volumes about a player's potential outside the highlights.

Adrian Peterson

Position: RB

I love his acceleration and his balance. I'm a bit concerned about how vertically he runs though. The only really good RB that I remember hitting the line of scrimmage so vertically was Eric Dickerson. When Herschel Walker started running that way, it was the end of his productivity.Really, the most impressive part of that video was the size of the holes he had to run through and the number of "you know"s that he squeezed into a single sentence.

Adrian Peterson

Position: RB

Correct on the "you knows"The holes were what I expected

Pros - his speed and balance are very impressive. His vision seemed good as well

Negatives - He was a little bit a "me only guy" after he scored rather than celebrating with his team

Also, he seemed to bounce it outside a lot for his successful runs. That doesn't play as well in the pros.

I am critical of forming strong opinions from highlights, especially with RBs. Why are you quoting me? I don't know what your point is about Addai. He is in a very fortunate situation. I don't believe he was the correct pick for Indy. I didn't when they drafted him and I still don't. But let's not hijack this.Highlights are what they are. I don't think anyone here on these boards goes too gaga over a player just based on highlights. I cannot ever remember feeling that way about any post. Highlights are a great introduction to a player, fun to watch, nice to consider alongside other analysis, etc. Highlights are good food.

Highlights are boring. Give me film of Peterson or Ginn or whoever doing something routine, and I'll give you a much more honest assessment of how I think they'll be in the pros.

Yes. Highlights are boring. Sportscenter's ratings would skyrocket if they would show the post game routine things. :pickle:

I certainly mean no disrespect, but if you guys don't like highlights then don't look. I didn't think that anyone could possibly have a problem with this thread, but I was obviously wrong. If you have something to add i.e. some insight, analysis, pros/cons, please by all means add it.

So please don't slam this thread, sorry if it's not good enough for you.

ETA: Thank you Mr. Lammey

Regarding Addai:Do understand that people said he would probably do well in his first year or two in the league due to the opening Indy had at the RB spot, not because he was a special RB. They were right so far. They also expected him to fizzle out after two years. This is yet to be seen. So, chiming in that they were all wrong would be off-base. We are talking dynasty leagues here, not just a single season.

Lots of people were down on Addai for a variety of reasons. Many said- he is a bust waiting to happen. What I am commenting on is that last year- and I not sure why it seems so difficult to process because I stated it clearly- is that many said last winter- "I see nothing special in the highlights. I don't think much of him." I said that there are many successful backs that won't wow you in the highlights. Now Addai may fizzle in a couple of years- but give him credit for this year. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry- Edge never did that- ever. So it wasn't just a good situation. He played well.I am not trying to turn this hijack about addai. AS I said in my first post, I appreciate everyone's hard work finding the links. I love looking at the highlights. It was a great idea by big tex. I think that sometimes people can miss the boat on guys like Addai, Davis/Williams/Rudi who don't have electric highlights.
