The 2011 K Thread (1 Viewer)

The final round of NFL roster cuts this weekend settled several competitions for specialist jobs. It also placed some talented players on the waiver wire, which other teams scrambled to claim...

Mike,

What are your thoughts on John Kasey for the year. Obviously a great situation .... what kind of shape is he in? Do you think he'll be there for a while? the whole season?

Same question here. I dropped Suisham last night and picked up Kasay. His 10pts last night were good, but should I keep him around or switch back to Suisham? (other FA are Vinatieri, Bailey, Scobee, Gano, Mare, and Succop)Thanks,Byron

Interesting tidbit: the kicker going against the Chargers has not missed since Dec 13, 2009 (Nick Folk with Dallas)

That's 21 straight games (22 counting playoffs) without a miss.

What's the record for games without a miss for an individual kicker?

Mike,

Thanks for all of your work in the Kickermania/Kickology department. Your preseason #5 ranking of Jason Hanson helped lead me to selecting him very late in my "main" league and I am #1 in kicking points so far this season in that league. While I intend to hold him for the rest of this season, I always prepare for injury or other unexpected developments so that I can move quickly when necessary.

How do you come up with your rest of season rankings?

Do you generate weekly projections and simply add them together?

I'm asking because I thought it might be useful to know who you project to have the best fantasy playoff production. Obviously, many owners try to change kickers during the bye weeks to a kicker they might use the rest of the season. A potential tie-breaker when comparing among kickers is projected fantasy playoff production. I realize that perhaps no position is as erratic as kicker, and that the best laid plans can be torpedoed by random weather in any or all of the playoff weeks. Still, it would be one more piece of information that informs opinions and rankings on players.

Can you consider specifically listing your projections for weeks 14, 15, and 16? (Since leagues use many different playoff formats, it would be best if you just list each kicker and their projection for each week instead of summing them together.)

If not this year, is this something you might consider doing in future seasons?

Thanks!

Jerk (no offense intended),I'll look into adding playoff weeks advance rankings... although it probably won't happen until next year, given my current schedule.- Mike

Couple thoughts:

1. In another thread someone mentioned a rent-a-kicker article to go with the rent`a`defense article. Seems like a good idea.

2. Any suggestions from this group in terms of who has come on at the end of the year and whose schedule and team make them really good pickups at the end of the year?

I'm looking at (if available):

Bironas

Carpenter

Hauschka

Prater

Hanson

Rackers

Suisham

Seems to me these have the best DST matchups and so perhaps they also offer the best kicker matchups as hopefully there will be more opportunities.

Anyone else?

Right now I am going with Bironas.

Thanks.

Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl kicker Billy Cundiff didn't practice again today due to a left calf injury and is regarded as a game-time decision. If Cundiff is sidelined, the Ravens' fallback option is former Pro Bowl kicker Shayne Graham. The Ravens have him on standby as a potential signing in case Cundiff can't go. Graham recently filled in for Miami Dolphins kicker Dan Carpenter. Cundiff beat Graham out in a kicking competition last year and was named to his first Pro Bowl. Cundiff hasn't kicked all week due to the injury.

"We'll find out," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said when asked about Cundiff's chances of playing. "I think so. I'm hopeful. I really am hopeful. We'll have a backup plan for sure, and I think we'll just see how it feels tomorrow and then maybe into Sunday. It's not a major thing. Basically his calf cramped up, but we'll take every precaution between today and Sunday."

Another option is punter Sam Koch, who said he made 4 of 5 field goals in practice Thursday. "I've seen him in the training room, that's all I know," Koch said of Cundiff. "I haven't even talked to him much today. Absolutely, he's doing everything he can I'm sure to get himself healthy for this game. He doesn't want to sit out. He wants to be there for the game. He's going to do everything he can to be out there on Sunday. "You have to wait until you're out there to see how it really affects you. He hasn't kicked since it happened. He doesn't know how it's going to affect him. It could affect him, it could not affect him. It's just kind of wait and see how it all goes."
