The 70's were the best decade of rock music. Challenge me on this (1 Viewer)

Can't do it for rock alone. I like the 60s rock, but many of the top acts bleed into the 70s. 80s and 90s aren't deep enough.

I fell like the "rap" generation missed out, as "classic rap" songs will not age that well, while the classic rock era has many timelessly classic songs.

I love the seventies, but one could actually argue it was the most derivative decade.

If all those seventies blues bands were reclaiming American blues, and the punk bands were reclaiming the girl groups and British invasion power chords and song structure, what are the seventies left with?

The first half of the 70s rule.

The second half of the 70s had it niches (punk), but overall it threatened the free world.

I would pick 1966 - 1975 for THE top ten year period. And its not even close.

You lose many of the greatest albums of all time that way, starting with London Calling.

Probably need you to define rock music but I'll take this lineup over the list from the 70s - I did this mostly top of head so I'm sure someone will come in and yell about how one of these probably belong in the 70s - won't matter, all I need is the Beach Boys and The Beatles and I'm pretty sure I got you beat.

The Beatles
Beach Boys
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Dylan
The Who
Rolling Stones
The Kinks
Roy Orbison
Neil Diamond
The Doors (not my thing personally)

ETA - for you real youngsters, this is the 60s.

The Who and Rolling Stones best albums were in the 70s.

The Doors LA Woman (arguably their best album?) was released in the 70s.

BOOM

I didn't even include what is one of my personal favorites (Simon and Garfunkel) because they aren't what I would call rock - some people actually do but I tend to disagree. If you give me them too then it's not contest IMO.

Go ahead if you like losing.
The fatter you get the worse your threads get.
I'm losing weight :hifive:
Your threads still are getting worse.
Where's your trove of epic work?

OH WAIT
:lmao: your ego is probably as big as your fat ###
Do you ever lie awake at night and wonder if maybe you're not serious enough about the internet?

Paul Simon's solo albums > his albums with Garfunkel.

You can have The Doors - I didn't even want to list them.

That's what you're so upset about??

They're all yours, Christo.

That's debatable but to my knowledge he didn't do anything solo in the 60s which is what we are talking about.

I still say The Beatles and Beach Boys alone beats your list but that's just me. Take all the acts that are both 60s and 70s off of our lists and you are left with LZ and Pink Floyd essentially as your top two against these two - no contest IMO.

Random listing of 70's stuff

  • Pink Floyd's best albums
  • Led Zep's best albums
  • The Who's best
  • Arguably the Rolling Stones best
  • Fleetwood Mac
  • Simon & Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water was crazy god)
  • Sly and the Family Stone
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Elton John
  • Billy Joel
  • Bruce Sprinstseen
  • Queen
  • Black Sabbath
  • Van Morrison
  • Van Halen
  • Aerosmith
  • Boston
  • The Allman Brothers
  • Derek and the Dominos
  • Santana
  • The Beatles (Let it Be)
  • Bob Dylan
  • Joni Mitchell
  • James Taylor
  • Marvin Gaye
  • The Ramones
  • The Sex Pistols
  • The Clash
  • The Doors (LA Woman)
What else? There has to be good stuff I'm missing here. In any event, the above is a ridiculous list.
