I totally agree,  but like most people I think NFL players are over paid for 16-20 game seasons.
It's fine to THINK that someone is overpaid.

It's also ok for that thought to be incorrect.

Someone literally cannot be overpaid for an elective, optional service.

Like the dental equivalent is for cosmetic dentistry.     There's a hot shot cosmetic dentist in NYC that can charge $4000 per porcelain veneer.. and has people literally lining up for the service because they want it that badly.

In the mean time there's thousands of dentists that can provide the service at nearly the same quality level for 1/3rd to 1/4th the price... and those guys like myself do NOT have people lining up at the door for that price.

Do I think that dentist is "overpaid" for his veneers?   No.  I"m jealous he's so well marketed and has such an amazing facility and team to make the service feel so premium that he can both charge that and be over-booked with business.      But he's not overpaid.... if someone doesn't want the service they don't have to get it...

If I charged 10K per veneer for the same thing and someone was willing to pay it.. then I'm not overpaid.

A lot of people are not college material and don't deserve to be there!  They're just being saddled with debt cause they're being lied too, by people like you, who say they deserve to go to college.
People like me want kids to have an opportunity to go college.  We do believe education is a real big deal as is a degree.

Sorry but like most people I think the money is just too much for 16-20 games a year.

Are you going to stop watching and convince all your friends, family members, and co-workers to stop watching?   and to stop going and stop buying merchandise?

There's only one way these guys start getting paid less.

IN fact there's only one way to bring down everyone's income.. stop doing anything...  don't leave the house, don't use the internet, no holidays, don't go out to eat, don't watch TV.. go live in the woods somewhere.. convince everyone else to do the same...  maybe convince them to off themselves if they don't like the plan!

We can do this.. if no one watches any TV and stops listening to music and buying things they don't need we can  wipe this economy out!

You first!

Well you’re wrong and anyways it doesn’t matter what you or anybody else thinks because you are completely insignificant when it comes to player salaries. In fact with the next CBA in 2 years they are likely going to get quite a bit more.

I made it very clear earlier it's now too late to do anything, my thing is how the owners let it get like this, big mistake.

NFL players make too much $$$$$ that's my opinion and it's shared bu most people.

I think I'll go with what the vast majority of NFL fans think about this. You can think what you like.

So just to be clear..   you think NFL players are overpaid.

So do you think that:

1) owners should be making more money

2) owners should pay players less and use the excess revenue to make seats cheaper for paying fans

3) owners should pay players less and send all the little people a refund check with the savings?

I worked in the insurance business, I worked on a 37% commission, 15% renewal system.  What the company made had nothing at all to do with me.Why would I even care, and I didn't.  What difference does it make what the owners make?  Hell, they could.....we pay 5000 bucks a game, ya wanna play football, that's it.  Now who makes 5000 bucks a week?  What kid is going to pass on that?

Hell yes the players make WAY too much $$$$$$$$.

Hey man you can be as BIG MAD online as you want. These guys are still getting paid millions and you still are not. Point to the shirt bro :ptts:

It's not difficult to understand how the owners let it happen. The owners started making insane amounts of money and since league revenue was increasing, the players rightfully felt they should get also see their compensation increase. Teams competing over the top players then bid against each other for players driving up the contracts.

I will offer $6000 a game to get better players then you have. Now what?

I have no idea but I’m guessing not enough if you’re that jealous of the players.
Noway in hell I'd trade jobs, I have it FAR FAR better than those guys, so you are 300% wrong.

Look guy any job where you only do that job 16-20 weeks a year*** and are making MILLIONS of dollars something is broke and needs fixing......but....too late.

*** yes I know.

Do you think owners make too much money?

Do you think baseball players are overpaid since they have to play 162-200 games a year?

Do you like apples?

If any man has put himself in a position to own any sports franchise he deserves to make as much $$$$ as he can.  He is a very special individual.

I know who Babe Ruth was, that's my baseball.

So basically you just aren't comfortable with blacks making millions because they are playing a "game"?

This is a race thing..  that's the only logical conclusion based on your convoluted logic.

How do you like 'dem apples?

Who are Bo Jones, Jaybird Coleman, Gus Cannon,. Ma Rainey?  They are old blues cats from the 20's.  Talk to me about HBCU football, the works of James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison.  Talk to me about Paul Robeson and Langston Hughes. Who was the first black to have a 1000 yard NFL season, well?  Wanna talk the origins of jazz and rock and roll?

On my walls in my Fortress of Solitude we see pictures of....

Muddy Waters

Usain Bolt

Jim Brown

Robert Johnson

John Lee Hooker

Bessie Smith

My favorite people are black, my fav music is black, so, you are so damn wrong it's comical.   My best friend Stan (best man) is black.

So how about a....ok man sorry....ok?

Bear in mind @TheIronSheik and everyone else supporting the XFL:

For your sakes, I hope it succeeds and you enjoy every single game you watch. I really do. While I have no desire to watch; I'm not going to be some kind of scold and tell you shouldn't watch. It's you're free time and you should spend it as you wish.  I just don't believe it's going to work; yinz do. And in the end, that's OK by me.

I'd rather discuss something like this than wade into the PSF.  :yucky: :yucky:
I watched a few minutes of the AAF and it's doubtful that I will give the XFL much more.  It can work if they get functional QB's and the only way to do that is if they grab them early.

I don't follow any levels other than the NFL but I hear this comment a lot about any minor league football so I have a question.

I don't quite understand why college football is so popular full of QB's who might not even be good enough for a league like XFL or AAF.

People generally root for individual schools, there has been a long history of social relevance, and the players themselves are not professional.  With the hashes and less concentration of talent it is easier to simplify your offenses and still be effective.

The huge difference is every game in college football is HUGE not so in the NFL, you can lose 3/4 games and make the playoffs, not so in the college game.

Plenty of the NF owners got their team because they were born into. Steelers were bought by after Rooney hit a huge parlay on horse racing. Giants founder Tim Mara purchased the team off the money he made as a bookie. Al Davis owned only 10% of the Raiders but when one of the other two owners was out of the country, Davis convinced the other partner to sign over full control of the team to Davis. Apparently in California having 2/3 was enough to make the deal legal. Lots of the owners got lucky and have been rewarded to magnitudes far beyond what any NFL QB has gotten.

As someone else said, there is a huge built in fan base and history. Also the games are a lot more fun the AAF games.

So what are you needing me to say?

So people born into massive wealth deserve it but people who train their entire lives and actually put their health on the line to do a job that lasts anywhere from 1-10 years IF they're top tier...don't deserve much lesser wealth.

Cool.

I think I see part of the problem here.

Anyway, this thread doesn’t seem to be much about the AAF or XFL anymore.

Ooooof, I just farted. 😳

There is no problem here, I;m just in that vast majority who think all pro athletes make too much $$$$$.

I’m in the VAST majority who think the owners make too much. And many ask for taxpayer money to help build their shiny new stadiums.

This is pretty much the consensus with the players.

ripped this off

For example, I don’t think quarterback Aaron Rogers should be getting paid a lot either. I think he should be getting paid more than Stafford, but that’s a discussion for another day.

It’s not a favoritism thing. I’m not trying to single anyone out. I love watching the NFL as much as the next person. But maybe they can lower the sum they get paid. I think that’s a great solution. Even though they’re not risking their lives, they do entertain the public, and deserve some amount of money. The NFL team owners should really think about how much they’re paying these players. If we cut some of the players’ salaries, we can use that money for more important things. The money can go to charities, people in need, lower ticket prices, or raise salaries for people who deserve it.

The NFL players play extremely hard, and they do risk their time to play the game we love to watch. I hope maybe someday, though, the NFL owners can see the players are getting paid too much for what they do.

Your turn.

If this actually happened I don’t think you’d see any disagreement. Yet, your rich owners, who you think should be paying the players less for some reason, go to the local government for taxpayer money to build new stadiums (and in St Louis' case, still leave after they dish out millions). So they need the hand out because they don’t make enough money from playing all these fancy players, right?

Back to the AAF...I’m in the minority for sure and thought the games were pretty darn good for a start up league, with cast off players, new refs, etc. I thought it showed great promise and I really enjoyed having 4 football games on my TiVo to watch during the week when there were no other sports on that I care about (baseball and basketball don’t pull me in, and hockey only takes over for me once the playoffs hit). So im gonna miss that league and really thought the AAF could’ve developed into a fine little dev league. Maybe add 2 more teams in coming years in football-starved places like St Louis.

Im gonna miss those games this weekend. And I know I’m alone on this one.

I don't really care anything about the owners, I just know without them all these players are working with dad or doing something making a fraction of what they make in pro football.

16-20 games  in 12 months, and making millions and millions of dollars,  that just ain't right.

You’re an interesting dude, Zeno. I can tell by your other posts you’re a real family man. Id like to grab a drink with you and have some fun arguing in person while watching the game. (As long as you don’t bring up sprinters, dammit! ;)  )

cheers

Family is everything Joey,  my problem is all of them are so damn active, it's impossible to get everyone together which is a bummer.

I do get a kick out of this world, here we get what people are really thinking which we never get out in that real world.......cool.

Sure, if you're ever in central Cali,...........

I drive through central CA on my way from Marin to LA to see my parents and sister's family. I’ll wave to you as I drive by and play a game of one-eyed Jacks in the family poker game in or honor. :)

HAHAHAHA. I would support that but the money is either going to the players or the owners. It is better the money be spread out to hundreds of thousands of players than 32 owners.

Now talk about how much the owners make from the NFL without playing hard or risking their health.

I really don't get this trip about how much the owners make vs what the players make.  There would be no football without those owners, so the players should be "
thank God we have these guys"....or they'd be working like the rest of us.  I don't make over a mill a year, how about you?

Who works at any job where they make anything remotely close to what the company owners make?  I never have, have you?

A 24 year old kid making millions and there is a problem, ya gotta be kidding.
