That's about all from the exchange that I'll have to type for anyone to see, really, that I remember correctly. Or they can click the link and see you, fatguy (not scooby, wrong lowercase guy), and Joe Summer saying all the same thing. They don't believe me. Which is fine. But I have no idea why you'd link to this as proof.

And it was the second, ninth, and tenth that they didn't have up there, IIRC. Largely because the ninth has never been used to settle a case. So that may explain it.

And now we have another member of the board that knows of the communist background of one of the members. I forget where our conversation left us, I only read up until the quoted part, which deserves a strong response, but one I'm not willing to get suspended over.

Oh yeah, that sounds familiar. I didn't read past the janitor comment this time because I didn't want to get angry again.

It was the stupidest/slightly-to-close-to nastiest fight I've been in since I've been on these boards. That's why it wasn't such a grudge. It's like remembering that time someone #### their pants next to you on the bus. One would probably remember that. In this case, it was to #### on my recall, call me a liar, and ask if I worked there as a janitor.

The EFF is good but focuses on technology related civil liberties issues.

Isn't this the case where the officer shot Bryant because she was less than a second away from plunging her knife into the heart of another black girl.  Like the vast majority of these cases, they don't hold up well.  

The biggest tragedy in this case is that it is still under investigation and the heroic cop is still facing possible charges despite the overwhelming video evidence that it was justified.

I had never seen this one..... I watched the body cam footage.....the girl is absolutely a split second away from stabbing the other girl.....the media coverage, and the family are all about blaming the white cop.....no mention of how he may have saved another life and at a minimum kept the other person from being stabbed.  Unbelievable

Without one spread of evidence, many people on the left and especially those in the media were ready to convict.  I honestly have no idea what they are still investigating and why they are still taking it to a grand jury.  The media is still quoting the mother about how this was unjustified as if there is some legitimate doubt.

I remember back in the 1990s when we were talking about sex ed in schools.  I was told in no uncertain terms that if we went the route of abstinence-only sex ed, the result would be a cohort of adults who are ignorant of basic human biology.  It turns out that folks were right to be worried about that.

The aclu moved hard left. That was one of the excuses they used. As you can imagine you can make "offense" cast a very large net.

The ACLU is just another generic lefty organization these days.  You can either make it your priority to defend civil liberties, or you can push a social justice agenda.  Those two things are direct conflict when it comes to things like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press.  The ACLU chose social justice, but fortunately there's another group ready to fill that void.

In my world, FIRE has sort of a right-ish flavor to it, but that's mainly because most free speech issues in academia involve lefties in the role of the defendant and righties in the role of the plaintiff.  There have been lots of exceptions to that though, and FIRE has always seemed to me to be as consistent on this issue as the ACLU used to be.  They'll do fine.
