The Aints will win the NFC this year (1 Viewer)

So where are all those "Saints will win the NFC this year" folks now? Yes, it is one game, but like I have been saying all along this off season, when you have a defense as horrible as the Saints do, you have no chance to ever win anything....even the NFC Championship in a weak NFC. If Mcnabb was not injured last year, the Eagles would have easily taken out the Saints.

If I am proven to be wrong (since this is only one game it is possible), I will come back and take my crow. But are those who were crowning the Aints as the NFC Champs willing to even consider that maybe they could be incorrect?

Oh, and the Aints did not even have an offense for one night. Rex Grossman scored more points on a Colts D that was much better than this one (Colts actually lost starters in the offseason this year) and this was despite playing in horrible playing conditions for an offense....not in a dome.

I know that the first game of the year tells me everything I need to know about a team's entire season.

Should just have a 1 game season... or maybe we can have 18 1 game seasons!

:P

Saints were rusted up, Colts looked great. Onto the next game.

BTW as far as the whole "Sanders makes that INDY defense a LOT better" goes.... well, Sanders was only healthy for 4 regular season games last season;

week:

1 vs NYG(433 yards)

2 vs HOU(299 yards)

9 vs NE(349 yards)

13 vs TEN(382 yards)

for the season IND gave up 332 yards per game. Looks to me like they gave up more yards than usual in 3/4 games.... but he helped them in holding HOU to 299 yards. Only problem I see with that is HOU only got 279 yards/game last year so he helped hold HOU to 20 more yards than usual.

Indy played defense well enough in the playoffs to win the SB and they deserved to be congratulated for that. But let's keep in mind of their 4 playoff opponents three of them finished #15 in offense or worse which is pretty unusual for playoff teams. The best offense they faced(NE) wasn't even in the top 10.

Not meant as a hammer on Spartans Rule.... I hear the same thing often and don't believe it. If you can't stop the run because your safety is hurt you're in trouble.

:P I've said after watching pre-season this D is better than last year's D. They didn't have a single performance last regular season that was even close to last night's D performance. This year's D is much better - they are much faster and much better tacklers. There will be plenty of debate on how good this D is, but there's NO question this year's Colts D is better than last year's regular season D.

(Colts actually lost starters in the offseason this year) .
Yes - and except Booger, most of those starters are not as good as their current replacements.

A blowout is never pretty, but there were a ton of factors going against the Saints last night which are all fairly obvious, the least of which are that they were playing the defending World Champs in their own hyper-loud dome on 'banner' night, opening day having all off-season for both a defensive and offensive mastermind to prepare for them. Because Dungy is one of if not the best defensive thinker in the NFL, and Ive got to say Manning probably knows more about preparing an O for a team than any of the very best O minds in the game. The Colts were ready to make a statement, and the Saints werent and got snowballed. They lost by 31 on the road. It was hideous. But 3 or 4 years ago, New England lost by 31 on the road on opening day, to a very mediocre Buffalo team, not hanging any banners by the way, they didnt score a point in fact, but bounced back reeling off 14 of 15 wins, and won the Superbowl that very year. So, lets not kick dirt on the Saints' grave just yet. Theyve got a good squad, its only one game...and they wont have to play the World Champs on banner night for the rest of the season.

Indy's defense isnt that good, they lost a few starters from last year. I think its more Brees and the hole offense stunk it up, whether their rusty or just had one of those games
