With the early specs, I'm not sure I'm going to need/want to upgrade to the 4s/5, sounds like the ios 5 update will be enough for me.

Better camera and faster processor are "nice" but hardly needed. However, the "rumors" are that the screen will actually take up the ENTIRE face of the phone except for the home button. There will be basically no bezel and the phone speaker will be behind the screen. A bigger screen would be a welcome addition, especially for texting/emailing/typing. I'll let my techie freak Mrs. 4x get it and test it out before $helling out for my own.Better camera and faster processor are "nice" but hardly needed. Not being up to speed with tech talk, I'm curious to know what you mean by "gestures" instead of a home button?I'd be fairly surprised if the 4GS has a home button. Most of the newer phones use gestures for home button instead.
Most of the android phones and jailbroken iphones use a system where you make a gesture across parts of the screen to = home button. The home button is a pos and expensive to fix so some have to do it to avoid repair costs. Most people opt for some sort of diagonal swipe top left/bottom right to = home. Some make a "C" across the screen. I have mine set that if I drag top to bottom across the center to be the home option, but most use that swipe for lockinfo. Given the enormous amount of jailbroken features from cydia that IOS5 will incorporate it is natural to think that they would also incorporate this.A bigger screen would be a welcome addition, especially for texting/emailing/typing. Cool thanks for the explanation. I used to read BGR religiously, but his bias got old fast. The big miscalculation was not the phone cost, but the infrastructure cost. AT&T tried their best to screw this thing up, and nearly did.
How do you mean? The big miscalculation was not the phone cost, but the infrastructure cost. AT&T tried their best to screw this thing up, and nearly did.
how are you using 1.2 gigs per month while NOT watching video and uploading everything from WiFi?I use 3G all the time for normal stuff and still get to about 300mb per month topsif you're going to watch any type of video at all, you will blow through 250 mb real quick. I have the 2 gig plan and have to watch my usage. I usually use about 85-90% of that. And, I don't really watch videos all that often. I try to load stuff up on wifi, so I'm not using my data.Just got my wife a phone plus the 250mb plan. Does anyone have this. She watched 40 minutes of a netflix movie and it said she had used 65% of her plan. If that is the case, I will upgrade her. I didnt think 40 minutes= over 125 mb
If you haven't updated in a while you won't see a major change. iOS 5 in September is supposed to have the exact bar you're talking about though i think. What is included in the latest software update? I rarely plug my phone into the computer (I see no point since I can buy music from the phone). When I finally plugged it in, I was prompted to update. And I would love for the next iPhone to have an Android style notification bar, you can't beat simply pulling down the bar and your text messages, emails, facebook alerts, etc are in one place for quick access. It's one of the few things that's cool about the overly-complicated android os.

Need to know this as well. Just upgraded my wife to the iPhone 4.just picked up one of these doo-hickeys. I went through the last 10 pages or so and didn't see anything on accessories. Anyone have any must have recommendations? Do I need a screen protector?
It's not totally required. Screen is a glass which is very hard to scratch.Need to know this as well. Just upgraded my wife to the iPhone 4.just picked up one of these doo-hickeys. Yeah, looking at an Otterbox for it. Any other accessories that are must have? Her car has bluetooth so no need for a headset or anything. Probably just a car charger would be enough.I bought a little bumper made by belkin and use it about half the time. Wife has an otter box which is basically indestructible.
I am thinking specifically about the ability to get to the iCloud. I like the feature where you can get at apps that you have purchased on other devices. Only iThing that I have that doesn't have this feature.Must know this as well. I'm sick of waiting for it on the sprint network. But have been with sprint since I got a cell phone in 2000. Love teh 7pm nights and don't really want to give that up. But might if another year goes by without the iphone.Any new word about the iPhone coming to Sprint?I know there were rumors about it come holiday season.
Actually iCloud won't be implemented until iOS 5 is released in the fall. If you log into the iTunes Store under the same account you should be able to download previously purchased apps. But that's not an "iCloud" function.Anybody know the reason why the Verizon iPhones are on 4.2.9 and the AT&T's are on 4.3.x? Especially since it has been 3+ months since the 4.3+ updates have come out for AT&T and others. It just seems odd that the brand new iPhone 4 that I just got from Verizon has less features than my kids 3rd generation iPod Touch. Or is that just me.I am thinking specifically about the ability to get to the iCloud. I like the feature where you can get at apps that you have purchased on other devices. Only iThing that I have that doesn't have this feature.TIA,
Apple delays iOS 4.3 for CDMA Verizon iPhoneBy Daniel Eran DilgerPublished: 05:00 PM ESTRelated AppleInsider articles:Apple TV updated to stream live MLB & NBA...Apple releases iOS 4.3 with faster JavaScript,...Inside iOS 4.3: mobile streaming with iTunes...First look: New SMS alert settings, multitouch...Apple issues iOS 4.3 beta with Personal...In announcing the release of iOS 4.3 on March 11, Apple has explicitly excluded CDMA iPhone 4 from the list of supported devices, indicating that a separate build will be provided afterward. The new iOS 4.3 release will officially support the 2009 iPhone 3GS, the GSM iPhone 4, third and fourth generation iPod touch, and iPad models. This leaves out the CDMA iPhone 4 as well as Apple TV (which is normally updated on its own, independent schedule). The Verizon iPhone 4 was released using its own software build, labeled iOS 4.2.5. Other iOS devices remained at iOS 4.2.1, which was released in November. Apple subsequently updated Verizon iPhones to iOs 4.2.6 to fix a bug related to its new Personal Hotspot feature. Apart from the brief exclusive of its Personal Hotspot feature, the Verizon iPhone is being updated separately because it uses a different baseband chip than other iPhones, requiring a separate firmware. Apple may be waiting for Qualcomm to deliver a specific update for the chip before integrating the new firmware into the iOS release for that model.Apple hasn't announced a date for the Verizon iPhone release version of iOS 4.3, but it is likely to follow shortly after the initial release for GSM iPhones because the new build packs a variety of features and improvements.New major features in iOS 4.3The general features provided to all iOS devices by iOS 4.3 include Personal Hotspot (WiFi tethering), which Verizon iPhone users already have. However, there are also a number of other significant new improvements Verizon iPhone users will want, including:• Improved Safari JavaScript performance using the Nitro engine, which Apple says boosts JavaScript execution up to twice as fast. JavaScript powers much of the interactivity of modern web apps.• Support for AirPlay video streaming by third party apps, as well as videos within the web browser or within the Photos app. Streamed photos also use slideshow transitions. • The ability to locally stream (without downloading or syncing) any content from your iTunes library via Home Sharing: music, movies, TV, podcasts, or audiobooks.New minor features in iOS 4.3Additionally, there are a variety of smaller tweaks and updates included in iOS 4.3:• A new Noteworthy font in Notes• Fixes a slideshow stop after 15 image when using AirPlay• The ability to cancel and delete an app that is downloading. It is currently only possible to delete an app that has been installed.• A slightly redesigned keyboard; missing accented letters in European keyboard popups; increased font size for China and Pinyin inputs• A new Parental Controls setting for the iTunes Ping social network• A new menu for scrubbing in videos, with Fine Scrubbing by seconds/frames; Quarter Scrubbing by second; Half Speed Scrubbing by minute and Hi-Speed Scrubbing by minutes.• A new Updates section in the App Store and new Accounts section in the Store menu.• Location Services settings moves from General to Settings Menu, and both Location Services and Mail accounts ON/OFF button is changed to a lock symbol. Some minor features (outside of Personal Hotspot) and bug fixes are also targeting just GSM iPhones:• Baseband is updated to 05.16.00 (for iPhone 3GS), 04.10.01 (for GSM iPhone 4)• Enabled Traffic Volume Indicator IE in CELL UPDATE; fixes issue with integrity protection failing after SRNS relocation and iPhone units deactivating and not activating after baseband logging is enabled• A control to set repeat of text tone (up to 10 times)• Automatic refresh of information displayed in Field Test Mode (removing manual refresh)• Slideshow options have moved to Photos app• New Contact photo user interface• Dual vibrate when receiving a text messageNew bug fixes in iOS 4.3A variety of minor changes and bug fixes are also addressed in iOS 4.3:• Accessibility: Voice Over now reads the entire chart in stocks app while in landscape mode. Fixed issues that prevented controls from being dismissed, or that prevented the keyboard from returning when highlighting and swiping through search results• Calendar: deleting a recurring event now make the alarm go away; fixed an all-day alarm going off an hour early. Canceled recurring CalDAV calendar events now removed on the event list. Fixed Exchange calendar event duplicating when passing Israeli daylight savings time.• Language: updates inconsistent translations in Chinese, Finnish, Norwegian, Korean, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese; fixes auto-correction issue when switch back from Emoji to English keyboard• Mail: fixes orientation of Mail not following device orientation under specific conditions; fixes popover when drilling into a thread while the empty search field is focused; fixes mail message view and orientation when quickly selecting a message and hitting edit mode• Safari: addresses issue that caused browser to crash after loading certain websites

Some of this depends on your definition of "4G". Apple fanbois will certainly tout some of the improvements in carriers as 4G, but true performance gains will not happen until the penta-band radios are put on the Iphone5.Hmmm I know it's been assumed not heard any hard evidence. You can remove these messages with a jailbreak. Though it doesn't sound that will solve your problem here.so I went away to the beach for the week and all of a sudden I got this message constantly that said 'this accessory is not compatible with this Iphone" I google it and most people say it's some kind of dirt in the charging dock jack-hole. I figure I got some sand or something in there so I almost collapse a lung as I try to blow it out and after three days the problem seems to be gone.. but now my Iphone won't charge at all and the message i get now is something like "charging not supported with this accessory".. well i was getting that message until the battery totally died and now i'm getting nothing.I peeked in the charging dock-hole and it looks like there might be some lint or something in one of the sides but it's hard to tell and i'm afraid to go and dig in there as I don't want to short it out.I also noticed that inside the charging dock thing it's a bit green looking :X .. my BIL said it might be corrosion.. The 4S was rumored to be a "bridge" between the 4 and the 5. The rumor mill has recently changed it's tune and is now saying that the Iphone 5 will be released in Sept.. no "bridge" phone, but an entire new platform. My best estimate as to why the iPhone 5 will be released this fall is that I bought an iPhone 4 this summer. I was holding onto my previous phone to see what was going to happen, and it died, resulting in my need to upgrade into the iPhone 4. You know I'm going to end up getting screwed with the new phone coming out 3 months or so after I got mine! The 4S was rumored to be a "bridge" between the 4 and the 5. I've be sporting the blackberry storm for years. My company FINALLY started allowing droids and Iphones, so I went out the first night that I was allowed to and got the iphone 4. Next day, giddy with my new phone, I stumbled across the rumors about the iphone 5 coming out in Sept. So I played with the iphone 4 for 13 days and took it back within the 2 week return period, and am once again sporting my rockin' blackberry storm, waiting for the iphone 5 to come out.My best estimate as to why the iPhone 5 will be released this fall is that I bought an iPhone 4 this summer.
