The Apple iPhone Thread (3 Viewers)

I traded mine in at the apple store and they didn't even look at it. He just asked me if it worked ok and was in good condition, I said yeah and then he stuck it in a plastic bag and gave me a $203.00 gift card  I did have some small cracking around the camera and one small scratch on the front.
What model?

Sent you a PM, did you get your iTunes gift card from radio shack?

Perfect. Just got the last appointment they had (tonight) until Monday. I was going in there anyway with my air that keeps creaking when I type or lift it up. :wall:

Doesn't charge particularly quickly for a brand new phone.

Battery life = neutral at best. Could be much better (disclaimer: imo and compared to past phones)

For those looking for a less expensive alternative to an otterbox or lifeproof(very similar), I've been using this case for the past 3 days on my 6 and I like it. Doesn't add hardly any bulk but gives airtight protection and is easy to handle. I would take my 5 out of the bulky Otterbox on weekends but I see no reason to take this off. Real satisfied with it considering the price. (Took a shot, wasn't expecting much, but it's good)

Eta: the home button, ear speaker and camera aren't covered/sealed, but the camera lense is recessed into the back plate.

I'd look into this case if I didn't have an Incipio coming in the mail. I hope it gets here soon.

Really getting annoyed with this phone.

Emails that are in the same thread that are grouped accordingly flat out won't open.

I have to elect to not group emails by thread to open them.

Exchange continually is syncing me back to old exchange account from 2008 even though I've manually corrected that multiple times. It randomly just reverts itself back. Oh and when I change it manually back to my correct exchange email, all my contacts disappear.

Who wants a free iPhone?
DIBS!!!!!
And it doesn't even have widgets! . LOL

I like how a Samsung seems to be the one who invented the widget.

The real positive for investing in an iPhone: you get the updates all across the board. They have Samsung flat out beat there, and Sammy's tech is horrid too. I try to steer everyone I know away from Sammy. If you're gonna buy into Android, go pure vanilla, and customize it from there. The Touchwiz framework is like having AOL on your PC. And yes, pure vanilla Android has widgets too!

LOL, widgets as a dealbreaker. Someone is flat out doing it wrong. :lmao: :lmao:

I aborted using the iPhone mail client. Too many things I didn't like and it lost my settings one time when I installed a patch, Switched to the gmail client and haven't looked back.
I no longer use the native mail client. I use Acompli for my two personal accounts and Gmail for my work account. Works awesome.

Speaking of Samsung, there was an interesting reddit study a guy did a few weeks ago gauging consumer loyalty, fanboyism, satisfaction, brand image giving you warm jollies, etc. (Apple crushed that last one, btw). The obvious selection biases apply (sample was just Reddit folk)

Anyway, Apple and Nexus users rated largely the same in these feelings/behaviors (both the good and annoying) with HTC/LG/Moto/Sony scattered throughout the middle, but the interesting thing was how much Samsung users lagged behind in all these measures.

They aren't as satisfied, aren't going to recommend, aren't going to go internet fanboy about it, you name it.

It seems that's a bit a problem for Android, to have it's biggest, most well-known brands be the products consumers like the least.

Here it is:http://www.saidtezel.com/blog/2014/9/reflections-on-a-dissertation-brand-loyalty-in-smartphones

Anyone else having issues with the touch ID?

It won't recognize my thumb oftentimes, and after 2-3 fails I'm forced to use my passcode.

Kinda annoying.

Wash your hands, dirtball.

Yeah if you or the sensor is dirty, it's not going to work. I have it keyed to both thumbs and right index finger to have options (not for dirty, just depending on how I'm holding the phone). Only time it failed so far, the sensor was dirty (out at softball fields). Wiped it off and worked fine.

I tend to agree. Samsung's overlays are weak sauce. The more pure experience seems to be winning out. I don't know what it will take for Samsung to get on board with the Nexus concept, but if they did for their flagship hardwares they would be well served.

Oppo, LG, and HTC all seem to be winning hearts and minds while having weaker specs in several areas.

So I can't tell where the BS starts and stops with this 6+ "bend" issue. Can someone break it down? Should I be worried
I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just try not to put your phone in your pockets unless it's completely necessary.
should an otterbox take care of this issue?
Speaking from experience of being a Note user.

The phone is huge...an otter box just takes it to a whole new level.

I think those that get OtterBoxes for the 6+ will soon switch to a less bulky case.

An otterbox on a 6+ will be the size of a cereal box.

One of the strengths of a back plate removable large phone is you can get a very thin profile folio case. That only adds a few mm to the thickness and adds lots of protection.

so here was an interesting glitch...or unknown feature

as i said when talking about find my friends, my wife's 4s used my itunes account. She restored that phone to her knew one so it uses mine too, and i do not believe this can be migrated to her own using family share wihtout wiping it

anyway, we are at home last night and i called my mobile phone from my land line because i was not sure where i had set it, and both of our phones rang. Then i called her line, and they both rang again.

Sprint could not figure it out but thought it had to be something with using the same id and suggested i wipe her phone. She was not real happy with that so we waited and i hit google

turns out there is a setting in facetime

iphone cellular calls - use your iphone cellular connection to make and receive calls on devices signed into your icloud account when they are nearby and on Wi-Fi

clicked that off and problem solved

I forgot about that, I changed my mind and didn't get the plus so I ended up just going to Apple because they gave me 100 more than radio shack was going to.

i still am looking for a way to get her phone onto her account and add her account to my family share. I'd think there are other people who used to share accounts and now want to use family share

wiping her phone would be a very unpopular move

My wife 6 just arrived. If we want to get the most from Verizon for her 4, with the power button mostly jammed, any thoughts on if we'd possibly get more if we turn it in on or off? Or, it doesn't matter and we'll get dinged for the button either way? As an aside, I am way ####### jealous she got hers before I got mine as mine comes in a few more weeks. What a fantastic device.

[icon] - go pick up my phone for me, GB? FedEx fn blows. They have screwed up more deliveries for me than I care to count.

FedEx experienced significant power outages last night at the FedEx Express Memphis Hub that affected our sort operations. We immediately implemented contingency plans to minimize the impact to our customers. We regret any inconvenience this has caused. Consistent with the provisions of the FedEx Service Guide, the money-back guarantee is not in effect for FedEx Express packages due for delivery on September 26, 2014.

I doubt it matters. Verizon is bending over to get iphoners in for 2 more years.

This. I left it on to show it works and that's all it took. $200 Verizon gift card that can be used to pay the bill and we put some of it towards a tempered glass screen cover. My wife is a huge klutz so we need to overkill on protecting her phone. The glass looks awesome on the phone.

Sorry GB I'm drunk in New Orleans

So I just had a picture text come up -- "dad dog airphone wants to share a picture" -- I hit accept instead of decline on accident and it was just some kind of random picture.

I deleted it from my pictures folder but there was no text message and no trace of it. I don't know this person. Is this some kind of new spammer thing?

If I have an iphone 5 in my hands, are any carriers offering a way to get a 6 with a trade in that keeps me from paying a dime to get started? I am on att and paying 120$ for two phones on family share. I would be glad to change carriers.

You want to swap your phone with a street value of about $200 for one with street value of $600-1000 ($3000 if you know someone in China) without having to pay anything?

And skip out on all the activation fees, convenience fees, because we can fees, etc?

These carriers are bending over for you, but I don't think they are bending over quite that much.

Fair enough, that's why I asked. That said, you didn't include the value of my 24 months of paying for service in your equation which is the most valuable part of the entire thing.

You're right. I had a brainfart.

No idea if you can get all the way to zero, but you might come close

keep an eye on your bill. a couple years ago something like that happened to me and it subscribed me to some text service automatically for 9.95 a month.

Hey nerds, I know nothing about Apple as I'm an Android guy. Not here to talk #### because you should buy what you like but is an iPad 2, 2nd generation any good? My wife wants one for Facetime with grandma and her other siblings but I'm not dropping $550 just for that. The 2 is on Amazon for abut $350. Am I wasting money? TIA

Yep

Might be too old for some of the newer iOS updates.

I have a 3rd generation I'd sell you for less than that as long as the folks here can verify it's still usable as well, but the 2 is getting a bit too far back there in age.

BTW: mine is in absolutely mint condition. Never been out of it's case, zero scratches, no cosmetic problems other than it's just older looking as it's used. But no dents, dings, scratches, whatsoever.

I'm willing to offer a fair price on it decided upon by the guys in the know here? And certainly less than 350. Feel free to chime in folks here with what seems like a fair price for it. I don't want strker to feel like he got a bad deal by any means.

I flat out don't use it anymore now that I have an iMac

It will literally only be for kid stuff....movies, a few games and 90% Facetime. We both have laptops for the heavy lifting

Love you JB and I will take you up on that if others feel it's fair. TYVM!!

You got my friend....

This is the 16GB, can only hold about 3-4 movies at a time (I'll usually "rent" them and then they delete automatically anyway so it's all I need) If you're looking to keep a bunch of movies ON the ipad, I'd just go to a bigger system but I've never had a problem with it whatsoever.

$250.00 via paypal seems fair to me and I will pay for shipping and probably will buy you a charger and have it shipped to you via Amazon (the one I use is pretty worn out). Will give ya a week or two to decide if it's as I advertised as well if you'd like. IF you don't like it, I'd be happy to send your money back. I don't want to make any enemies by misrepresenting anything.

Anyway, do some research on prices and keep in mind this is "like new", I'll try to upload some photos tomorrow of it as well.

I got a 2 year old and another on the way. Variety of movies isn't necessarily needed. Insert Frozen, Cars, Toy Story etc..... The same movie is only needed like 10x per year when we drive to the in laws. Like I said it's not going to be a daily tablet.

I'll give it some time to let others weigh in but PM me your PP and I'll shoot it your way. You are a gentleman and a scholar...well maybe one of the two ;)

while not heavily advertised the 2 is now the legacy ipad and I would expect the 3rd generation to be dropped first. This has never been officially announced, but the fact that they still make the 2 and haven't made a 3 in 2 years speaks otherwise.

Cool man. Agreed, I'll let a few people weigh in here and then we can set up the paypal.

Will send the case as well. It's a little worn out of course but that's why the ipad itself is 3 years old and in such good shape. Never been out of that case.

I see 265 for the same model used on ebay. Add in the free shipping and new charger/used case (and the ability to return it if it doesn't work for you) and that should be a good deal at 250.

So does that mean accessories just won't be as available or they will stop producing updates that work on it? Thanks Cul - let us know.

I really don't know. You still should be able to get accessories for any of the ipads till the end of time.

Software updates are another story. My guess is they axe the 2 and the 3 at the same time perhaps in another 24 months.

JB I'll throw in a few extra bucks for the "service" as a thank you.

Also appreciate the insight culdeus. Please weigh in more if you can, and others. I'm completely ignorant on anything Apple. TIA

If you take those videos and convert them into a size and format more viable for the iPad, you will be surprised at how much you can fit on there. Another :2cents: they make a mount for the iPad that connects it to the headrest of a car seat that enables easy viewing in the car.

I have a 32GB iPad 2. It does what I need it to do and works great. The new ios update has slowed it down some however that may also be due to the memory in it as well. It will play movies just fine.

I'm waiting for the 12" iPad... they better bring one of those out. If they do not, I'd look to buy a new one sooner rather than later.

I've got an iPad 2 that is still chugging along fine. I haven't had any apps that are too sluggish or anything, but in general I agree with Bender, it is getting a bit long in the tooth. For just a bit more I think it would probably be worth going with a newer model.
