The Apple iPhone Thread (7 Viewers)

Is 6+ better in terms of performance? Am I right it has better battery life? (I assume based on the bigger device hence bigger battery, though it does need to power a bigger screen, but at least one review I read said it's impossible to drain in a day with heavy use and even 2 days is feasible).
I charge my phone when I go to bed at night and I usually have 1/2 battery life left.

Throughout my professional life, I’ve tried to maintain a basic level of privacy. I come from humble roots, and I don’t seek to draw attention to myself. Apple is already one of the most closely watched companies in the world, and I like keeping the focus on our products and the incredible things our customers achieve with them.

At the same time, I believe deeply in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, who said: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ” I often challenge myself with that question, and I’ve come to realize that my desire for personal privacy has been holding me back from doing something more important. That’s what has led me to today.

For years, I’ve been open with many people about my sexual orientation. Plenty of colleagues at Apple know I’m gay, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the way they treat me. Of course, I’ve had the good fortune to work at a company that loves creativity and innovation and knows it can only flourish when you embrace people’s differences. Not everyone is so lucky.

While I have never denied my sexuality, I haven’t publicly acknowledged it either, until now. So let me be clear: I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.

Being gay has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to be in the minority and provided a window into the challenges that people in other minority groups deal with every day. It’s made me more empathetic, which has led to a richer life. It’s been tough and uncomfortable at times, but it has given me the confidence to be myself, to follow my own path, and to rise above adversity and bigotry. It’s also given me the skin of a rhinoceros, which comes in handy when you’re the CEO of Apple.
The world has changed so much since I was a kid. America is moving toward marriage equality, and the public figures who have bravely come out have helped change perceptions and made our culture more tolerant. Still, there are laws on the books in a majority of states that allow employers to fire people based solely on their sexual orientation. There are many places where landlords can evict tenants for being gay, or where we can be barred from visiting sick partners and sharing in their legacies. Countless people, particularly kids, face fear and abuse every day because of their sexual orientation.

I don’t consider myself an activist, but I realize how much I’ve benefited from the sacrifice of others. So if hearing that the CEO of Apple is gay can help someone struggling to come to terms with who he or she is, or bring comfort to anyone who feels alone, or inspire people to insist on their equality, then it’s worth the trade-off with my own privacy.
I’ll admit that this wasn’t an easy choice. Privacy remains important to me, and I’d like to hold on to a small amount of it. I’ve made Apple my life’s work, and I will continue to spend virtually all of my waking time focused on being the best CEO I can be. That’s what our employees deserve—and our customers, developers, shareholders, and supplier partners deserve it, too. Part of social progress is understanding that a person is not defined only by one’s sexuality, race, or gender. I’m an engineer, an uncle, a nature lover, a fitness nut, a son of the South, a sports fanatic, and many other things. I hope that people will respect my desire to focus on the things I’m best suited for and the work that brings me joy.

The company I am so fortunate to lead has long advocated for human rights and equality for all. We’ve taken a strong stand in support of a workplace equality bill before Congress, just as we stood for marriage equality in our home state of California. And we spoke up in Arizona when that state’s legislature passed a discriminatory bill targeting the gay community. We’ll continue to fight for our values, and I believe that any CEO of this incredible company, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, would do the same. And I will personally continue to advocate for equality for all people until my toes point up.

When I arrive in my office each morning, I’m greeted by framed photos of Dr. King and Robert F. Kennedy. I don’t pretend that writing this puts me in their league. All it does is allow me to look at those pictures and know that I’m doing my part, however small, to help others. We pave the sunlit path toward justice together, brick by brick. This is my brick.

Yeah pretty well said. I can't for the life of me understand how the sexual orientation of the CEO of the company who makes your cell phone would matter... but I'm sure a few Jethro's will switch to android to make a point. :)

yeah child labor!

Got my 6+ Tuesday, got it set up yesterday and so far I'm liking it a lot. Taking it to the gym tonight for the first time to listen to music while I ride the bike, so we'll see how that goes.

I have the 6+ and have yet to go below 35% (I charge it every night). Battery life if one of the best things on this beast. Not sure I could run it down to 0 if I tried.

I guarantee you I could kill a 6+ by dinner if not happy hour. :(

Got the 6 today. Or rather, activated the 6, been on my desk all week, just didn't have time. Love the size. Upgraded from 5s. Interested in how the battery life will be - had to get a Mophie Juice Pack Plus for the old one just to get through the day.

A few issues during setup. It would not let me restore from iCloud, said my old iOS (8.1) was incompatible with my new iOS (8.2). I got my mail exchange setup fine. Went into Settings > iCloud > storage > manage storage and I see my last backup was 3:20 a.m. Seems like I only got a partial restore - 20% of pics/vids, all iTunes, no apps.

Hmmm...

iOS 8.02 <=> 8.2

:bag:

My 5s was 8.1. My 6 came with 8.02. You can't restore an 8.1 from 8.02 (obvs). Went to Apple Store, got the iOS 8.1 installed, 15 minutes later I have peace like a river. Plus all my apps, tunes and everything else from my 5s.

surprised you can't restore from 8.1. i assume there are tons of people trying to restore that way, must be a lot of pissed off people.

Called retentions to ask if I could still get in on the double-your-data promo that expired on 10/23. Nope, sorry. Ok thanks, I'm going to t mobile to get a new iphone then on my line that is out of contract. Really? Let me add $50 credit to your account and put you in the priority queue for a 64gb 6+. Will ship in 10-12 days at worst.

Well this will be a problem. Wtf? Can you install iOS 8.2 on a new 6+ before a restore?

I've been trying to figure it out but my iphone 6 vibrates at random. No idea why. Liked through the notification updates and other settings and no idea.

Just getting used to the 6+. The thing is pretty massive but have only had it for a couple of days so see how I adjust.

My battery doesn't seem to be quite as great as others in here and reviewers have commented on. Haven't seen what happens when it gets down to around 20% where my 5 would pretty much be dead in 20 minutes.

Question about the double tap feature that pulls screen down. Can you adjust that size? Would be nice to have that be a little bigger say the same size as a smaller phone screen.

On my new 6+ now... Love it!
Using this phone is awesome. One handed is a little challenging, but I don't do a lot of that anyway (and when I did, I probably shouldn't have been).

The one thing that I'm still getting used to is carrying it around. Not sure if it's just paranoia, the fact that I don't have my case yet, or both, but I feel vulnerable when I'm walking around with it whether it's in my hands or my pocket. Hopefully I'll adjust and get used to it.

Gotta game the system

Still having issues switching from landscape to vertical mode in various apps including Messaging and Safari.

Not pleased. Far more buggy than any iteration of the iOS I remember.

I'm on the latest firmware and am not having that problem. I'd go to the store and see if the demo units are acting the same way. If they are not I'd ask to have the phone replaced.

Also, I've noticed that not everything will go to landscape if your display is set to "zoom" vs "standard"

I just read that verizon and att are keeping the double your data deal going until mid November

My 4S does this. Ghost vibrations and ghost alert tones from time to time. I'm guessing it's app notifications that are crashing before they complete. Or it's just Apple ####### with us

She told me that was for the 15gb family plan. I'm on the 10gb but will call and complain some more anyway. Thanks!

thinking of giving this case (Supcase Unicorn Beetle PRO Series) a shot... anyone tried them?
 Have had it from the start, absolutely love it. Here was my initial recommendation.

For those looking for a less expensive alternative to an otterbox or lifeproof(very similar), I've been using this case for the past 3 days on my 6 and I like it. Doesn't add hardly any bulk but gives airtight protection and is easy to handle. I would take my 5 out of the bulky Otterbox on weekends but I see no reason to take this off. Real satisfied with it considering the price. (Took a shot, wasn't expecting much, but it's good)

The home button, ear speaker and camera aren't covered/sealed, but the camera lense is recessed into the back plate. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MOOF4D8?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links

nice! I searched the thread but didn't find the name. Thanks for the bump

My only concern was the plastic (I assume?) screen cover. No issues with it?

 No issues at all that bother me. The screen/cover sits right against the phone and is very touch responsive. It's so tight that it could be a little difficult to remove the case, but that's a good thing imo. And no issues plugging in ear phones or charger, ports open with enough room and they have remained in good condition after extensive opening and closing. For the price it's a great quality, couldn't recommend it enough. I'm in construction and around dust all day long and it protects it well. Go for it.

Just got my 6, upgrading from a 4S. Night and day difference. Best is that I got $100 for my 4S which had a broken sleep/wake button.

Only thing somewhat annoying is that my accessories, such as car charger/transmitter and radio clock, are built for 30 pin. And the 30 pin to 8 pin adapter won't fit through my case, so I think I need to sit my phone on two adapters. Is there an all-in-one 30 pin to 8 pin adapter that also works with a case? I haven't found any on Amazon, but maybe I'm missing something.

I'm going from 4S to 6 also. I have an iPad 4th gen, so already had a couple of the lightning cables. But I went ahead and ordered 3 new ones in different lengths from eBay

It was a good run. 6+ had since Saturday. I'm at the airport going through security, get behind a wheel chair at the X-ray machine. Bags get all stacked up on the other side, the little bin that had my phone and wallet gets pushed off the belt by 2 heavier bags onto the marble floor.

Screen shattered.

TSA asks if it was like that already.

Oof.
Tell me about it. Am traveling for work so have to replace screen immediately figure out money later.I'm guessing will be a tremendous PIA.

Apple Store nearby?

The 6+ I ordered yesterday will be here tomorrow. So I'm excited about that obviously.
WTF? I am still waiting on my damn 6+. I didn't have to have it, but that pisses me off. Not you, good on you, but WTF for me.
Space gray 16gb att.
my 64GB gray 6 arrived today, but I won't be able to pick it up until Friday, so I'll just be over in the corner rocking back and forth until then

My wife took my son to best buy on saturday afternoon to get a 5s and was able to get a 64gb 6+ with att. I've screwed around with it and I'm still glad that I got the 6, my hands are just too damn small.

It was in the Apple leather case. Not much protection on those. I have had iPhones for years and have never had a broken screen. Must have landed just right, it was a hard floor.

Was able to call as waiting on the plane and they set me up for an appointment in the city I'm flying to. Pretty amazing actually, as long as traffics doesn't hold me up I'll be good. Will cost 150 bucks or so. Didn't have the iCare thing so have to pay full price. Learned you couldn't sign up for it after the item has been broken which makes sense I guess. Figure TSA will refund if I actually fill out all the forms and follow up.
