Australian police have again cautioned motorists relying on online navigation technology, this time voicing concerns over Google Maps software, following a similar warning involving Apple’s Maps application earlier in the week.
The Google Maps issue was reported by police in Colac, a town west of Melbourne, after drivers travelling along the Great Ocean Road were misdirected by the app onto Wild Dog Road, a one-way road unsuitable for heavy traffic. According to a report by the ABC, the error in Google’s navigation software has led to a number of near fatal incidents.
