They did not need Google maps. iOS already had CoPilot, TomTom, Garmin, Navigon, Magellan, Waze, and others. More than enough solid options to hold up to any android device.

YOu surely are smart enough to know that the vast majority of smartphone users will use the default application over getting something new. How long did it take Firefox and Chrome to overtake Explorer? It had nothing to do with Explorer being "better".It's okay that Google's Maps application is superior to APple's. It's okay....

I don't want to get into a pissing match over a stupid ap, but you made the same point I was making. Just because people are whining about the Apple maps doesn't mean others aren't having good experiences with it.It's just not a good App compared to other turn by turn. Also just because you have not had issues others have had very bad experiences with it. Then again the new Google version doesn't seem to want to avoid toll rolls on my route regardless of the settings I make.I've had the iPhone5 since launch and still haven't seen the Apple maps make a mistake. Even going through backwoods roads in hickville DE it was spot on.

I have only had one issue. One day it took me a route longer than necessary, that's pretty much it. I have a quick question - getting my son a iphone for christmas. Probably the 5.... Although he wants a 4
Anyway - I am not intimate with Itunes. I've used it, I've added devices, backed up a device but as a regular user I'm not completely sure what is the best way to do certain tasks.
He has an IpodTouch. He manages everything through his touch - doesn't use itunes on a PC I think at all. Can he download everything from his touch to his phone? Is it like Android where it's linked with your email so you can just go download everything again?
Basically what the best way to move everything he owns... TIA

Apple is the best. Apparently I was holding my phone wrong for all the Christmas videos I took.
Apparently any picture/video you take with the physical buttons are upside down. Just wanted to post this as a warning to anyone using the iPhone 5. Apple should change the direction of the camera so that up is with the physical buttons on top. This is how they advertise you use it and by giving us physical buttons they need to get it right.
Yes I know the fixes and why it is doing this. Like I said just a warning to those using the phone that post processing will be required if your not holding it right.

Yea, that is super annoying and counter intuitive being that the volume button is used as the shutter for the camera now. what happened to apple being the "it just works" company?

Got your panties in a bunch again? Just to big for my liking. I have never had an iPhone prior to the 5 I recently purchased. One of the main factors for me was the top tier Android phones are to big. Don't get me wrong the note 2 is a great device but the one guy here that has one admitted he felt strange using it in public as a phone.

I don't know what any of this means. I just know that I went from 100% to 60% in less than 2 hours looking at the weather and twitter when trying to determine whether to drive home wednesday. It charges much slower and depletes noticeably faster than my iphone4.

When the difference between the 4 and the 5 is only 20 mAh (assuming those stats are right), it makes sense. mAh is milliamps/hour. Roughly speaking - that's just the energy capacity for the battery. A 2000 mAh battery will outlast a 1500 mAh battery at the same discharge rate. It's not quite that cut and dry, but that's the gist of it.

Sounds defective to me or you are running some crazy apps all the time and always using bluetooth and wifi and streaming LTE downloads constantly over that 2h. For reference, I haven't charged mine in 2 days with wifi on (but not using it) and have over 50% charge

Maybe. I've had 3 different iPhone4 because of the homebutton issue. I shouldn't be having to get phones replaced so much. I never drop these things either, so it's not like I'm an abusive phone owner.
the mAh is just the electric charge transferred by a steady current of one ampere for an hour. This will of course vary in electronic use but gives an idea of how long the battery should last. I know my iPhone 5 easily out lasts my sons 4. It also charges faster. You need to look at how you are using the phone and what charger you are using. An example you pulled up your weather app which uses CPU cycles for notifications and activates the GPS which is a battery burner. Once you put the weather app in the background both of these still run. You can check to see if you GPS is active by any applicaiton by looking at the status bar for the little GPS arrow.So here's a few ideas that I use.1. When I'm in a non-LTE area I turn of the LTE radio it burns battery more than any other radio out there. 2. Turn off blue-tooth. I do not have a blue-tooth equipped car so no reason to have it on 3. Adjust brightness. I run mine at about 50% most of the time. 4. Turn off location services for apps your not using 5. Turn off Siris raise to speak option. I actually have Siri turned off completely but if you like it then just flip the one option.6. Turn off notification widgets your not using.Charging all depends on how much power the outlet is providing you. Different USB ports have different output as do the wall jacks.Good luck and hopefully a few of the ideas will help.

You just have to make sure you do not do partial charges or the numbers would be off.I'm at 65% with 1hr56min usage and 5hr7min standby since my last full charge.Used: Waze driving in to work (1hr), Stitcher during drive, some web browsing and e-mail checking.Remember games and videos use a lot more battery.

I'm borderline obsessive about clearing the "multitask" bar. I actually use the iPad's usb thing, so that should actually charge the phone faster, right? I never use siri, so maybe I will shut her down. Will that impact voice texting though?
1. If it's going through your USB port is depending on the USB. If your using the wall charger then it is 1A i think and should charge the phone quickly.2. Yes. Disabling siri takes away the little microphone button on the keyboard.Fully charge your phone then monitor it a different times of the day by going to settings->General->Usage. You can scroll down and see how long you have had the phone on and in standby. Just remember the usage is included in the standby time. So you do not add them to get total time. This should give you a good indication of how long your phone is actually lasting. Just remember heavy use of the CPU/GPU/LTE/GPS eats battery life quickly. Not to mention running the screen on full brightness. So streaming a movie and full brightness will reduce battery life a lot.

Ok.I'm, not streaming any movies and my brightness is just past the midway point.
Just to give you more info before I head out. My current usage is at 3hrs02min and standby is 8hr18min. I watched one 48 minute show and same basic browsing. My percentage of battery is at 46%. No charges have been applied since I took it off the charger this morning.

Most people don't know how to manage a mobile device. There are a few things that are important. Your iphone is going to adjust your full capacity based on your usage cycle? Why?Because batteries have a "flat zone" between about 80 and 20 SOC. The battery will deplete during this region without much, if any, voltage drop. Batteries also have a special feature. Some of you have probably experienced this. If you let your car run out of battery because you left your lights on and then turned the lights off you let your cell "relax". This centers the batteries energy and then raises the voltage, often enough to get the thing to start.The thing is that relaxing is very important. It allows your phone to better guess where it is in the flat zone. If you just run the thing hard and hang it up wet it is going to throw the brakes on you quickly. Why? because a deeply discharged cell will never regain full capacity. This is why a healthy iphone can last 2+ years. The gauge on the battery protects the cell from users "bad" behavior. Most of these have been enumerated here already. Bad cells happen and getting it checked won't hurt. And the charging speed has not changed, and probably won't anytime soon. Charging too fast is bad for liion. 1000 on AC or <500 on USB is as fast as you should want.

Last post since this is dedicated to Iphones. My wife and I have dad Iphones for a long time minus the Iphone 5. I don't have a problem with the Samsung being too big since most of my calls are on bluetooth through my vehicle. At work I call back on my work phone. It is big, but that is the selling point for most people I would think. My neighbor said it best when he was playing around with the phone the other day, "it is like having a small plasma tv as a phone!" If smaller is the selling point than an Iphone would definitely be the right choice. We also have 2 Ipads and my wife can't put those down.

I wonder, I often just leave wifi on, when I look at my phone now I do not see LTE at the top - any chance leaving wifi on turns off the LTE drain and greatly increases battery life or is this just a coincidence? I work from home so wifi is fine for me.

Bought the 5 32gig for my wife and she had it for only 2 weeks before someone stole it out of an employee area (was not an employee). Apple was unwilling to assist and Sprint could have cared less, so the only way to get another one was to pay full retail. I had the apple care warranty but unlike the Sprint Assuron warranty it did not cover theft/lost. Wife liked the 5 over her EVO but thanks to a shameless crook she'll have to wait 2 years till upgrade available. Heck I was even willing to pay a discounted price for another one but Sprint and Apple said there was nothing they could do, really...
