Any tricks to getting in an iPhone 4 with a passcode lock on it? I own the phone, don't want to lose the info by wiping it...
Doing some snooping on your son?
Yep... Well, not snooping in a sneaky sense. I took the phone from him and asked for the code. He wouldn't tell me so he hasn't gotten the phone back.
If that is the case I would wipe it. Then let it sit and collect text, e-mails, etc from his friends. I'm lucky that while I have taught my kids (15 and 13) to use a lock screen they have no problem giving me the codes.
That seems kind of silly to wipe it. If his son wouldn't give him the code it's because he's hiding something, he'd be doing him a favor wiping it. And I'm sure the son has already told all his friends/contacts to stop all communication through the phone once it was taken. My daughter has a phone and facebook with the stipulation we have access to every password. If she ever changed it and refused to divulge it I would explore every option to find out what it is she is hiding before I erase all the information.
This is the situation. He's not giving it to me because there is incriminating stuff on him and his friends on there. My rule with him and my other kids is that it's my phone, you're borrowing it. You hand it over when asked. Well, one certain night I caught him off guard and he's not budging.

Might still work on the 4. The 4s up it will not. Really what your looking for is a bootrom exploits.
This is great, probably exactly what I'm looking for. I tried a few videos on YouTube, but they didn't get me into the phone.Thank you!

I would seriously take it to someone that knows what the hell they are doing. You insert the wrong code and the phone is dead.

Contract with AT&T is up in February. Have the iPhone 4. Looking to possibly switch carriers if the money is right. Any good deals with an iPhone for a cheaper monthly plan that anyone is using?

Sure there's a chance I could wipe what he is trying to hide. If that's the case I would be fine with it as I doubt it's anything to serious and if it was maybe it's better that it was wiped period.I also find it hard to believe he could tell ALL of his friends and them still not have them forget. I know my sons friends have about a 2 day memory or less. If I was really worried about if he's hanging with the wrong crowd I doubt texts or e-mail would reveal a lot anyway. Especially if they are smart enough to remember not to text him after a few days of you having the phone. Just knowing who and where he's hanging out is a better option in my opinion.
Not saying it applies to your situation, but a guy I work with went through the same thing with his son thinking it was nothing big. He finally got hold of the phone's content and found out things were far worse than he ever suspected. It was so bad he sent his son to an out of state facility to get straightened out. He's been gone for 6 months now and is on his second facility and in that time 2 of the friends he used to hang out with are gone due to OD's.I hate to be the guy that worries, but if my child adamantly refuses to give me their password I'm assuming the worst and working backward from there.

In the situation you just described I would think other signs and symptoms would be seen and more relevant. I could be wrong but don't think the phone would be the only sign of abuse. I just would have to expect to see signs such as physical, mental, behavioral, or objects. I do get your point though.

Contract with AT&T is up in February. Have the iPhone 4. Looking to possibly switch carriers if the money is right. Any good deals with an iPhone for a cheaper monthly plan that anyone is using?
Be careful switching each network has it's benefits. I prefer AT&T for data speeds but Sprint for pricing especially for a full family of smartphones. Just be aware that sprint data is not the same quality as At&T data.

I have come to be a light user of data. I check email and some sites if I have the time. I don't stream music or check YouTube at all. Walmart's Smart Talk is getting the iPhone for $45 a month. Not sure if I can use my phone on the network cause they may require me to buy one. But, they rent AT&T's lines so that part should work fine. Would be nice to save money.

New iPhone 5 user here. Sometimes on my lock screen at the top there is a music play button and volume control and sometimes it's not there. Does anyone know why?

If you double click the home button while locked, it will bring up play controls as a quick way to start music without unlocking the phone. The controls will also be there if music is being played while the phone is locked.

So this is a new one. Twice in the last few weeks I have had an email appear on my iphone 5 after it has been sent to my work exchange account. These emails have then disappeared from both the phone and the exchange in box. They are not in the trash. In both cases i viewed the email only on the phone before it disappeared. This never happened on my OG or 3s. Thoughts?

Nope. Followed all the instructions from the link, but it kept bombing out at a certain spot. I had the same problem other XP users had, and there was no fix ever figured out according to forum members.

So two issues I've encountered with my iPhone 5 recently, one software the other hardware:

[*]The past few days, the phone has been "freezing" for a few seconds. It's been happening pretty frequently and it's very frustrating. I haven't been keeping track or anything but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason (e.g. it's not always in a specific app or something; sometimes it happens while I'm swiping between home screens, and it'll just stop halfway, other times it's when I'm trying to exit an app, or open an app, or whatever). Any thoughts? The phone is up to date with iOS 6.0.2.

[*]The lightning connector that came with the phone now has to be positioned *just right* in the phone in order to charge. If I just move the phone a little while it's plugged in, it could cause the phone to stop charging, which obviously sucks. Seems ####ty to me that I've had this thing for just a few months and I'm already having this problem (I had a similar problem with a Motorola Razr years ago until eventually it just wouldn't take a charge at all). Anyone hear of this? Is this a cord issue or a phone issue? Can I get it replaced without traveling to an Apple Store?

Apple pulling 500px apps

500px is trying to get the App back in. If a kid wants to see nude photos they just have to go to safari Apples on product. I don't understand the move against 500px at all. I have yet to get a nude in Flipboard yet from 500px and the article states you have to have the desktop app to turn safe search off for 500px mobile apps.

you can certainly get nudes through flipboard, but you have to follow some tags to get there.

Makes no sense pulling the app. Never seen anything on flipboard but its hard not to see nudity on tumblr and there is also flickr

In case any 5 users are looking for some cheap charging cords, look no further.

Bought 5 of them, have tested 3 and all have worked so far. have not tried to synch to computer using them yet, but works for charging at the VERY least.

Anyone hear anything about a new phone coming out. I dont feel the need to upgrade from my 4 right now. The more I read that stupid s3 thread the more I want a new phone. I like apple and the products they put out so Im hoping to upgrade when a new one comes out.

Make sure the port is clean. My 4 got to where it barely charged at all and come to find it was pocket lint built up on the port. The cable should not be the issue unless it's been closed in a car door or something traumatic. It's possible the connection at the end is undone but unlikely. Borrow a charger from a friend and see if you get better results. But I'm betting in the lint.

That's what I mean. The upgrade to LTE is significant between prior generations and the 5.
He is asking about the iOS upgrade, I believe. I haven't seen any reason to upgrade the OS on my iPad. Also, not sure if they have a jailbreak out for the new one yet.

The jailbreak will be out by the end of the week. The only reason to upgrade I think is the apple maps and google maps turn by turn navigation(or you can just download waze). I think there are some new emojis with the new update but nothing too big that i use everyday.

Not sure if I saw your link before, but I ordered 3 of them as well and have had no issues at all. $9 for 3 cables, so now I added one to my other 2 30-pin chargers (have a wall plate surge protector from Costco that has 2 USB connections, real nice for 3 kids and a wife, all of whom have iPhones/iPods/iPads), one for my car and one for my laptop. Not a single problem and I honestly couldn't tell you if the one in my laptop bag is the original one or one of those 3.Also, the "shipping time" estimate was way more than what it actually took. If you have an iPhone 5 and don't need a new charger right away but have 50 zillion 30 pin and only the one lightning, these are highly recommended.

So there was some new IOs update for my iPhone 5 so I clicked it and it started downloading wirelessly. After it was done downloading it went to this screen that said it needed to be plugged into iTunes. So I plug it in and it says it has to be restored to original settings. I can't do anything, phone won't get off that plug into iTunes screen and iTunes isn't giving me any other options. We have a newborn and the wife was at the store and he needs to be fed...so I have no other way to reach her so I hit the factory reset iTunes is asking for. I lost all my data, pics, messages...everything. iTunes put a bunch of apps back on and my contacts are still there for some reason but I'm missing a lot of stuff I'd like to have.I call apple support and they tried to get me to buy some tech package for $250. Bull####, this is their update. Any way I can reverse this and get my stuff back? Any help at all is appreciated.

No backup, no cloud. App Store remembers everything I've downloaded so at least I got that back quick. I'm ####ed on data, pics, etc though, right?

Mine did the same thing tonight. Only thing is I DID do the backup. Everything was put back on the phone except photos and videos... Any help?ETA: When I go back to redo the restore, it asks me for a password to unlock my backup, only I never set a password. I have tried everything I could think of. No luck. I reboooted the phone to initiate the restore the first time. Only not everything came back...

Never update your phone without a full backup by usb.Why apple allows people to do this is insanity. Nobody should be updating firmware anyways unless there is a serious issue or an untethered jailbreak released on the new version.Apple hasn't done a meaningful update to a firmware in years that added a feature worth upgrading for.
