Cool. Do you run around doing benchmarks on your phone all day to impress the ladies? Cmon man. Who cares if you have a 8Ghz pentacore processor with 64GB of RAM? Next to nobody is doing anything on the phone that will even begin to use that horsepower. Somehow the "slow" Apple chips manage to still have fewer hangs/crashes during normal use than many "superpowered" android handsets. It's a miracle!

If you're a hardcore gamer, perhaps you will see benefits in framerate in some games, I don't know. Reviews of the new gaming architecture are pretty good with the latest iPhones. Otherwise... if the phone does everything I want, lag free, who gives a #### if it's "only" a dual core instead of a quad core...aside from techgeeks?

No, they aren't the be-all and end-all of capabilities, but they are one of those things that you can end up using enough that you don't want to go back to not having them.

You know how the calendar app icon on the iPhone actually shows today's date (something that android's inexplicably doesn't do)? It would be really annoying once you're used to it if all of a sudden it didn't do that anymore.

Widgets take that idea a step forward. They are just icons that do something more than just sit there waiting for you to touch them to open the app. Some show info on your home screen, some act like macros where they don't just open the app, but do something particular using the app.

For example, my Note 3 has a fitness app by Samsung called S Health. Basic fitness tracker in a lot of ways, with one function being a pedometer/step counter thingy. I ignored that for a long time, but recently gave it a shot after talking to some friends who have fallen in love with their FitBits. So I've been trying it out for the last few days. I can open the S Health app and look at the info, but there's also a widget for the app that you can put on your home screen (or one of the secondary screens) that only shows the # of steps taken so far, changing as you walk.

Another one I mentioned earlier is a direct dial widget. You can basically just add an icon to your home screen for any of your contacts' phone numbers. If you want to call that person, you just touch that one icon. Phone app opens up, call starts automatically - great for people like me who mainly only call one or two people anyway.

There are tons of different uses for them. Again, not usually a huge deal, but cool enough that it surprises most Android users that iOS doesn't have them. I've heard effects on battery life is a potential issue, but haven't really looked into other reasons why they might not be ideal for iPhones.

As someone who switched from the iPhone 4 to the Note 3 (5.7"), I can't even tell you how much I prefer the bigger display. I personally would choose the 6+.

I got used to the feel in my pocket within about a day or two. You'll probably end up doing some more things with two hands as opposed to one, but I've never found that to be a bad thing, and I'm guessing it would be the case anyway when moving from the 5s to the 6.

Like others have said, when I pick up an iPhone now, it feels like a toy because of the smaller size, and I'd never want to go back to that kind of size. The overwhelming majority of people I know who have given the bigger size a chance for more than a day seem to have that same opinion.

Either way, you're going to have to get used to a bigger phone. I think you're more likely to later regret not going with the larger one than the other way around.

I use the direct dial widget as my wife is pretty much the only person I speak to on the phone.

The "directions" widget is awesome too. It's from Google Maps and lets you program in a destination and a method of transportation, and a quick press of the icon will pull up directions automatically. Living in NYC, I have one set to "home/public transportation" and it's a one button press for directions to the nearest subway and any transfers I'll need to make, from wherever I am in the city. Have one set for work/public transportation, and another for home/driving for whenever I'm outside the city.

I think that's what HULK is a little over zealously trying to get people to understand, but he's preaching to wrong crowd because most iPhone FBG already acknowledge: the iPhone isn't the clear cut best phone out there anymore. Spec wise (aside from camera) and os feature wise there is no question the flagship Android phones are one generation ahead of Apple. A big feature this iPhone is missing is water and dust resistance.

Now it really just boils down to a matter of preference. If you've never tried Android give it a try: you'll be getting the most technologically advanced phone which finally has a fully matured OS that can do everything and more compared to ios. If you're sticking with iPhone you'll be getting a phone behind technologically wise, but one that has a familiar os with a reputation and customer service second none.

The craziest thing is just how many options there are now. Apple may not be the leading innovator now, but it's presence has forced other companies to and we as consumers are benefiting in end. We have the choice and isn't that what America is all about?

Maybe its your lack of understanding that is coloring your opinion. I've used 1 GB RAM Android phones and then upgraded to a 2GB one. The difference was very noticible in terms of how fast the phone does things.

Now, because of the Apple integration, 1GB on an Apple phone goes farther than 1GB on an Android phone. But, if Apple upped it to 2GB, you'd notice a sizable difference in how fast the phone was. And, in terms of manufacturing costs, it would only be a couple of bucks for Apple to up that spec. They'll probably do it next year and you'll be in here commenting on how amazingly fast the new processor is.

You don't need to be a tech geek to notice the difference.

One thing to think about when you read/hear these kinds of reviews questioning the larger phone and the inability to reach with one hand is that you may simply end up holding the phone in a slightly different way in your hand to compensate. I know that with mine, I hold the phone more on my fingers and less on my palm, with the bottom resting mostly on my little finger. That's different from the way I held my iPhone, but I got used to it quickly and it allows my thumb to reach further. I rarely can't reach something on the screen (I have relatively long fingers, but this is on a 5.7" phone). It might not be as easy to reach the upper right corner, but IMO the larger display is worth it.

Anyway, people who take five minutes with the 6+ and try to hold it exactly the same way as they're used to might not be thrilled.

Huh... even on my lowly iPhone 5 apps load instantly...

Link detailing this happens twice as fast on these quad core phones? And, I was curious about the "more than 2 things at once" limitation. I'm more interested in how my phone is holding me back in real world scenarios in that regard.

I don't particularly care about a 2 year contract. Hulk, I believe even you said in the Phone Plan thread that you'd be hard pressed to beat that plan with any of the fringe carriers (while still maintaining best-in-class coverage) even off contract, right?

If you insist on having an iPhone, this is probably the way to do it. Basically the price difference for a similar prepaid option is about $10 to $20 a month depending on a few variables w/ a person's usage, which ends up about the same as the subsidy, or potentially better. So yeah, if you must have that phone, this is definitely the right way to go about it... especially considering the $200 hassel free trade in.

I am not sure they are going to let you do the trade in for anything but the 16gb 6. I am trying to clarify that as well.

I have a 4s and it is time to trade up because whether Verizon wants to admit it, they are purposefully throttling their 3G customers so you have to upgrade. There are places that I used to get full bars and now I can barely get one or two and the phone reads 1g. I asked a Verizon guy about it and he gave me some line about the new IOS versions require better hardware to function correctly and that is why my phone is slowing down. I am not believing it as that should have nothing to do with reception, but it is getting so bad that my wife and I HAVE TO upgrade. I will send a string of texts and she will get them when she walks in our front door and the phone kicks into WiFi mode. This sort of sucks because both of us have grandfathered unlimited data plans but we barely touch the limits of any of the data plans they offer so I guess it won't hurt that much.

How do they miss a holiday launch for the iWatch? That was stupid. There will be 5 android knockoffs that look just as nice by then.

These already exist and are just as ugly as the Apple version except seem to have better interface and functionality. Then there are the actual good looking Android watches.

Hold on... just did a little legwork and it seems most (all?) of these android devices are still on 32bit architecture?

The A7 from a year ago was even 64 bit... wasn't it? I must be missing something...

I bought the best Android phone on the market last year. It was buggy and no faster than an Iphone. That being said, I almost stuck with it because I loved the 5.7. Now that Apple has (long overdue) finally gone to the 5.5, the competition is over, in my mind.

The tech specs are 100% irrelevant. People that don't even understand how this stuff works are talking about tech specs. It's hilarious.

The point is, both phones are plenty fast enough and plenty big enough. They all play the same games, browse the same web, get on twitter and facebook and take pictures.

Which one you get is now basically decided by which OS you like better. For me, iOS absolutely annihilates the buggy Android OS. Some disagree.

Cool. Do you run around doing benchmarks on your phone all day to impress the ladies? Cmon man. Who cares if you have a 8Ghz pentacore processor with 64GB of RAM? Next to nobody is doing anything on the phone that will even begin to use that horsepower. Somehow the "slow" Apple chips manage to still have fewer hangs/crashes during normal use than many "superpowered" android handsets. It's a miracle!

If you're a hardcore gamer, perhaps you will see benefits in framerate in some games, I don't know. Reviews of the new gaming architecture are pretty good with the latest iPhones. Otherwise... if the phone does everything I want, lag free, who gives a #### if it's "only" a dual core instead of a quad core...aside from techgeeks?

4.7 should be fine for you. The 6+ is waaay too big for me. Major reason why I prefer the Galaxy S5 over the Note.
