The health apps are interesting and apparently you can get them with iOS 8 without having the watch but obviously limits which of the features it will support (no HR).

The big thing that I want is the Apple Pay - I absolutely hate caring my wallet and would love to only have to carry my phone. Hell, if I could replace my wallet and car/house keys with my phone then I could stop asking my wife to carry my stuff in her purse.

I don't know much about Google Wallet vs. Apply Pay but is this something where one or the other will "win" that market or will both be supported? Honestly, that alone would be a deciding factor for me.

Serious question, do you feel like an idiot holding the note 3 to your ear? Have never used a phone that big, just seems too big to actually use as a phone. Could totally understand not liking going back to the smaller screen though, for other uses.

I don't usually hold it to my ear. I almost always use a wired mic/earpiece with it or speakerphone depending on where I am.

Those of you on the fence should consider that the battery on the plus is much bigger. Not sure if the battery on the 6 is enough to get you through the day, but it looks like it definitely will be on the plus.

I was honestly hoping for more. I'd get a slightly bigger screen, slightly better battery life, and a new wi-fi standard that my home router doesn't utilize. What else would I be getting?

Oh, I get all that stuff, just not sure how impressive any of that would be for me personally. I've never been disappointed in the screen I currently have, or the camera. I don't know if I've ever made a video on it aside from ones of my dog doing something crazy. The processor has never been "slow" in opening any app that I use in checking facebook or sports scores. The battery life (which I was very hopeful about) isn't that much improved. I'm not sure about the touchless payment thing yet, and not sure the touch ID thing is that important to me (haven't lost a phone in the 12 years since I'd had a cell phone).

Just saying I was honestly hoping for more.

Not being snide at all so wanted to preface that... but what exactly were you realistically hoping for, then?

We're talking about pretty good upgrades in pretty much every aspects of the phone's performance, plus introducing a couple new pretty significant features that you simply dismiss as "not sure about".

If you're happy with your current phone then you certainly don't need to upgrade.

If you're wanting to upgrade but are looking for more significant features, I'm just curious what you're expecting that would trigger your purchase?

I don't know to be honest. It just seems to me that Apple in the past had always wowed me with their next phone. The original was groundbreaking. I got in with the 3g model, still have it in a drawer at home. My next upgrade was to the 4, which had a new look and was gorgeous with the retina display - as well as huge leaps in processor, memory, wi-fi, gyro, HD video camera and even a front facing camera (which blew me away). I then upgraded to my current 5 - another big leap in processor, memory and even graphic chip, and LTE compatibility.

I was just expecting more from this release.

Oh I couldn't care less what people think, you should see what I wear outside! It just seems too cumbersome, in all aspects. I wear jeans to work so it's in and out of my pocket all day. Also would need a good case because of work which would make it even bigger, so that's the main reason really, my daily use. Would love a big screen, I'm just not one that could use a big phone daily.

A couple of my thoughts on this...

Obviously, Apple doesn't have the ultimate salesman, Steve Jobs anymore. Also have a take into consideration that every Apple phone is leaked well before the Keynote so it's never much of a surprise when the nerds Cook and Schiller get out there and talk about it. Last, today's phones are pretty much already tricked out. You're probably not going to see anything jaw-dropping come from a phone or tablet anymore.

For those wondering about the size of the plus in hand, go check out the Lg G3. The screen is 5.5 for a good comp. the width is very close about a .2 inch diff) and the plus is a good .5 taller.

But you can check it out and get a general sense of what you will be looking at and how it fits in your hand.

Speaking of, kind of funny but remember when the iphone 5 came out and there were all those commercials saying that common sense dictated that the phone should be the size they made it ( your thumb reaches here to here...and here to here...coincidence? No, we call it common sense).

Now here we are a few years later and apple has lost its common sense... Lol

It seems like the antenna of the newer phones is improved. If I put my original 5 against a 5s the signal is always better on the 5s.

Being on campus for the announcement was kinda cool. I'm not big on the KeyNotes as I'd rather fidget with gadgets rather than be told a list of features.

That said, the Apple Watch looks intriguing although I'm not an Apple guy. I actually only own Apple products that were swag (a mug, water bottle, and such).

I have to head back to the party. There are 20 platters of sushi, too much beer and wine, and a margarita machine for me and my team out here. Life is rough.

Would looking into Verizon or T-Mobile be an option as well?

I think the 4.7" screen and size combo is just about perfect. Have an HTC One m7 and it's almost too big, but not quite. A workmate has the Note, and it feels too big to me. And I'm not a small guy, and have big hands. I rarely feel like the 4.7" screen is "too small", even surfing the web I get around just fine. And more and more websites are either going responsive or making mobile optimized sites, so small text and pinch/zoom websites will slowly fade away (at least for the big players). Anything I feel is too small for my phone I'm probably just going to get my laptop or computer out, even at this size I really don't see much need for a tablet.

I was late to the smart phone party, have had a 4.7" Nexus for 18 months, love the size. Iphones have looked like a children's toy in comparison. Now that they have a 5.5" I will probably go to an apple store for the first time in my life and play around with it. This might be what it takes for me to switch teams.

sure, but to compare it to talking on any size ipad is ridiculous. I saw a larger phone the other day and wanted it. For me, and I would say that in font 100 if I could, if it fits in my pocket, its fine. Once I have an issue not fitting the phone on my pocket, I would say its too big

Think I am going non-plus. Since I bought my iPad, I rarely use my iPhone for much of anything except for quick email and twitter checks. Can't see carrying around something the size of a Note for my needs.

Went from Apple to Android several years ago and can't imagine going back to an iPhone. The wife recently was given an iPhone for work after dumping their blackberries and she is dumbfounded as to why anyone prefers the iPhone's over the better Droids.

And yes its the little things like widgets, swype, ok google or always listen, universal usb cables, battery life, google now, app integration, ability to choose default apps, customization, multiple accounts (just learned the importance of this one), and on and on and on

BS. You've been ripping the iPhone since the day it came out.

Been ripping on it since it was no longer the superior phone and Apple users were acting as if it was. I am different than some Android users, I actually want Apple to put out a far superior product so that it spurns competition, this way the consumer wins. Sadly Apple has not put out a phone that comes close to its Android counterparts in years and nothing has changed over the past few days.

Apple's not stupid...granted they're following the Android lead, but there is something to be said for letting others be the guinea pig on a whole host of minor issues. I'm sure they could have put a larger phone out awhile ago (or had widgets or any of the other things they've copied from Android), but if those changes won't be met positively why do them. It's cynical, but it's worked so far.

Surely, you know to expect some when Apple just had their yearly circle jerk event where they tell about 150 million worshippers what their phone will look like for the following year, and much of that unveiling amounts to offering features that have long been available on phones that many Apple users turn their nose up at. The size issue, of course, being front and center, and Jobs' snarky comments on that are well documented.

Hulk's a little overzealous, of course, but I'm sure working in the industry makes the unwavering cult following for products that don't represent great innovation or value at the moment quite annoying. That cult following also plays a large role in enabling the status quo in the US cell phone industry, which he hates.

Either way, when the big swinging **** in the industry starts following the little guys that they've always belittled, they are going to be mocked a little for it.

Any Android owners contemplating a switch to the iPhone 6 or 6+, specifically Galaxy S4 or 5 owners. I'm up for an upgrade and have been a loyal Android owner for the past 4 years but find the iPhone 6 some what intriguing. Any pros and cons vs Androids phones such as Samsung's Galaxy's or HTC's

Went from Apple to Android several years ago and can't imagine going back to an iPhone. The wife recently was given an iPhone for work after dumping their blackberries and she is dumbfounded as to why anyone prefers the iPhone's over the better Droids.

And yes its the little things like widgets, swype, ok google or always listen, universal usb cables, battery life, google now, app integration, ability to choose default apps, customization, multiple accounts (just learned the importance of this one), and on and on and on

I'm calling BS. You've been an Apple/iPhone hater from day 1. But hey, since it's the internet feel free to make up whatever you like.

Your posts are all the same. Also gotta love the classic "wife has an iphone". Go ahead, tell us more about your wife's phone tastes.

BS. You've been ripping the iPhone since the day it came out.

Been ripping on it since it was no longer the superior phone and Apple users were acting as if it was. I am different than some Android users, I actually want Apple to put out a far superior product so that it spurns competition, this way the consumer wins. Sadly Apple has not put out a phone that comes close to its Android counterparts in years and nothing has changed over the past few days.

I just have to laugh at this. There's literally no way my parents could deal with an Android phone. I'm sure the tech specs, apps, widgets, are better, but getting it to work and more importantly getting any non-tech person comfortable on the device is an entirely different matter. My dad was an IBM programming engineer/manager for years, but god forbid he try to get a Dell machine to sync with an Android phone these days. He got a MacBook Air ("best" and " easiest" computer he's ever had and when he has a question he goes to the Apple Store to get training) and now can use the iPhone/iPad. That's the value. You can pu pu the specs or their "following" nature, but Apple's managed to figure out how to manage their ecosystem better than anyone to everyday consumer.

Oh c'mon.

Everything syncs with google. You sign into your google account on your new phone, tablet etc all of your apps are DL'd, all of your music is right there etc etc its simple. You do not have to customize a thing if you do not want to and adding a widget is as simple as adding an app. If your parents cant do that I dont know what to tell you.
