One of you needs to call whatever carrier it was/is on and request an unlock or just go online and follow their directionsMr.Pack got it from me. First time I've sold an iPhone, so I wiped it before sending it to him and thought a new SIM card would work.Where did you buy it? Sounds like the phone has been locked.Mr.Pack said:I think I know the answer, but I'm going to try before heading to the Apple Store.....
Bought a used iphone5, bought a new sim card, turn the phone on, all that shows is the itunes logo. Tried to do a restore on itunes, 3-4 times, and on different computers. It gets all the way to the end and I get an error message "Iphone cannot be restored, error -1.
I tired the holding the power and home buttons down etc....... No go.
Is this a "trip to the Apple Store" thing?
What do I need to do to unlock it? Can I do something remotely?
It took you a long time to go to https://itunes.com/soi-remove andclick remove?I spent a long time last night trying to jettison U2 off my phone. Who in the world at Apple thought up that brilliant idea?

It's legit, and not stolen. I bought it from tommyGunZIf the phone has been reported stolen and deactivated, it's done. Period. Nothing you can do to make it work.
Use this to check if activation lock has been put on your device. If it has, you should get your money back as you have a very expensive paperweight. Always verify a phone is legit before buying.

Actually Apple is the best of the mobile OS's when it comes to consumer privacy... They have made it very clear they aren't interested in that side of things. Google (android) is notorious for farming consumer data, building a database, then using it to market to you / selling it to advertisers. So is Apple sending/selling our fingerprints, health info and other metadata to businesses and government agencies?
No. Just thinking. I've read that about Apple's philosophy too, but that doesn't mean it's true. With the Health app tracking steps, stairs, distance and times of each, the Apple Watch tracking heart rate and more, Find My iPhone, Finger Print scanner, browsing data, banking, various social media, purchasing, flights, passwords, email, texts, etc., they surely have a wealth of information that's personally identifiable when the dots are connected, even if "they" (not just Apple) claim it's aggregated.Actually Apple is the best of the mobile OS's when it comes to consumer privacy... They are not capturing or storing images of your fingerprints, or so they claim. The touch ID uses a mathematical formula based on the positioning of ridges and valleys in your fingerprints. I'll try to find a link to where I read that and post here.So is Apple sending/selling our fingerprints, health info and other metadata to businesses and government agencies?
All depends on what you choose to believe. Reality is, all these companies record massive amounts of data about you. Some of them tell you that they aren't interested in the data they are collecting. Some of them remain relatively silent. Some of them tell you they only use it for "X". But they all collect it.So is Apple sending/selling our fingerprints, health info and other metadata to businesses and government agencies?

Apple's AAPL -0.37% new iPhone 5S, which comes with a fingerprint scanner, won’t store actual images of users’ fingerprints on the device, a company spokesman confirmed Wednesday, a decision that could ease concerns from privacy hawks.
Rather, Apple’s new Touch ID system only stores “fingerprint data,” which remains encrypted within the iPhone’s processor, a company representative said Wednesday. The phone then uses the digital signature to unlock itself or make purchases in Apple’s iTunes, iBooks or App stores.
In practice, this means that even if someone cracked an iPhone’s encrypted chip, they likely wouldn’t be able to reverse engineer someone’s fingerprint.
had to run to a meeting, good looking out,
I think it's considered :used: at that point and you'll prob need to sell your 6 and buy a 6+ full price, but I don't know. I recall once I had a 32GB iPhone 5 that was toast. They were swapping in for another and I had asked about upgrading to a 64GB and was willing to pay the difference. They said No can do.Question: will Apple allow me to trade in my 6 and trade up to the plus?
You should have listened. Pretty sure I told you you'd like it. I don't have Shaq hands, but the 6 plus doesn't feel big at all anymore. I'd have a hard time going back. I watched Guardians of the Galaxy on the plane last night in first class and it was magical. Just use your lawyer money and get one!Question: will Apple allow me to trade in my 6 and trade up to the plus?
Can't you just let your kid use it as an iPod touch? My kids have our old 3G, 4S and 5's. When they saw our 6+'s one said she can't wait until we pass those down. Lol. It'll be awhile.Question: will Apple allow me to trade in my 6 and trade up to the plus?
I could. But I'm kind of cheap these days and is rather recoup a few hundred bucks especially because my 6+ purchase will be at full price and I would like to subsidize at least some of it.Can't you just let your kid use it as an iPod touch? So now the camera won't focus since the last update on my six plus. My regular six is fine. Anyone have a fix for it? The selfie camera focus is fine.Jinx.I swear to God this phone is indestructible.
Can't they let us delete Apple Apps we don't want? We can always get them from the Apple Store.Apple’s latest iPhone update comes with an Apple Watch app you can’t get rid of
On the same day that Apple revealed more details about its much anticipated smartwatch, the company also rolled out iOS 8.2, an update for iDevices that brings with it not only Health app enhancements, increased stability and various bug fixes, but also a brand new app that you can’t get rid of.
Come April 24th, when Apple’s smartwatch finally gets a chance to meet some wrists, the new ‘Apple Watch’ app will come in very handy, allowing owners to pair their iPhone and watch before configuring various settings on the company’s first ever wearable. The app also includes a link to the watch’s App Store, though at the moment tapping it leads only to pre-order information.
Of course, well aware that this is an opportunity too darn good to miss, Apple has also included several videos in the app so anyone yet to be convinced as to the wisdom of forking out upwards of $349 for the device can learn more. And perhaps be persuaded to drop some cash for it.
The tech company is already splashing out on a global marketing campaign for its new smartwatch, but putting an app on iPhones containing links to promotional material is a shrewd and cost effective way of reaching millions of potential customers – ones who’ve already invested in Apple products and have the required hardware to get the watch working (ie. iPhone 5 or later).
However, if you’re absolutely certain the Apple Watch is not for you, and the app’s videos (should you take a peek) fail to whet your appetite, well, you’re stuck with it. The Apple Watch app cannot be deleted.
Best thing you can do is slide it into that special folder you created long ago with all those other apps (Stocks is probably in there) that you never use and can’t get rid of.
I have my appointment today and hopefully the lady on the phone is correct and I'm only looking at $109 to replace. The one day it's not in the case and of course I drop it

That seems like a pretty good price. You can buy a do-it-yourself kit for i6 from iCracked for $150 which is more than 3x what I paid to buy a screen kit for my daughter's i4 a while back. Looked as good as new when I was done.first phone in many years that I skipped getting apple care for and wouldn't you know it I drop the sob out of my pocket while tying my shoes in the gym. Of course when I flip it over my iphone 6 the screen is f'n shattered.I have my appointment today and hopefully the lady on the phone is correct and I'm only looking at $109 to replace. Yeah hate the battery on the 6 (seems even worse than the 5S.) Tried all the tricks & tips and it was toast by mid-to-late afternoon. Started using the Mophie juice pack last summer & love it. Plus it's a great shell, I've dropped both on the sidewalk with no issues. Preordered the 6 Mophie and I *think* I've been using it for 6 weeks. Fantastic product, feels like I get 2.5 times the battery life.Anyone else have their iPhone6 battery start draining super fast all of a sudden? Just noticed it's just not holding a charge well since iOS 8.1.3
Does this also lead to app closing issues? I've noticed recently that many apps will die on open (Costco and Apple Maps - Have to use Google Maps) or during scrolling (weather map on the Weather channel app). They all worked fine before and I haven't done the most recent update. I am going to try the update and see if that helps. Really annoying, but nothing I can't work around so I haven't had a chance with work/sports for the kids to do the upgrade on all my phones. My 6 battery life improved a LOT when I completely reset and manually downloaded all apps and such from scratch. Pulled numbers/calendar from iCloud.
Then again I'd been restoring from the same backup for 3 years... But the word is stuff can get corrupted and can lead to battery issues.![]()
jailbreak still works right? Just jailbreak it and use the removeitall app. (Note: may not be that exact name but it's close). Allows you to delete anything you want.News from the newly issued iOS update:

The 6+ battery is awesome, but it's not the same battery as the 6 IIRC.My 6+ battery lasts me 2 days easy. With similar use, my 4s would last maybe 8 hours.
I mostly work off Dropbox for work stuff. But the battery was ####ty from Day One after firing up the 6 from the 5S iCloud restore.ETA - did I read that correctly? Are you suggesting 'the fix' is to delete & then manually download the 200 apps I have?My 6 battery life improved a LOT when I completely reset and manually downloaded all apps and such from scratch. Pulled numbers/calendar from iCloud.

My 6+ battery life is great. I could easily go two days. I have had a half hour call and not much else on the phone today and I am still at 100%. Only on really heavy call days or when my kids use it to play games at dinner/home do I need to charge it at night. If I have 60+% now, I tend to not even plug it in. Anything below that I will just to make sure I don't have to touch it the next day. If my kids didn't use it I would probably be pretty regular about charging every two days, but those games suck the battery at least enough that with everything else I have to charge it at night. I've had it since the start of the year and I would say I have only gotten down to 10% twice and when I did a couple days ago (didn't charge it that night), I was able to finish everything I needed to do that night and then put it on the charger with 6% left. With my 5, when it was down to 20%, it seemed like the battery life drained so fast I couldn't even turn it off before it turned itself off.49% in the time it took to compose that. Zero apps running in the background.
What's the big deal? I just have a folder on my last page with apps that can't be uninstalled. Non-issue IMOjailbreak still works right? Yeah i use this fitness tracking, as it counts your daily steps. But I imagine it's a pretty big battery drain.saw a battery tip yesterday (I think this is post 8.2 release)...
Go to Settings --> Privacy --> Motion and Fitness --> turn Fitness Tracking off
I did this and haven't noticed any unusual battery drainage since installing the update
