The Apple iPhone Thread (3 Viewers)

I bit and bought the 6+ over the weekend.

Man this F-er is big, coming from a 5. and i have decent sided man-hands. I think evolution will take over and by the time i'm done with the contract, my right thumb will have grown 1/2 inch longer then my left.

screen is sick and being I watch a lot of video and TV on it, its nice.

Yep, your Johnson will grow as well. Mine did so worth it right there.

News from the newly issued iOS update:

From Digital Trends:

Apple’s latest iPhone update comes with an Apple Watch app you can’t get rid of
On the same day that Apple revealed more details about its much anticipated smartwatch, the company also rolled out iOS 8.2, an update for iDevices that brings with it not only Health app enhancements, increased stability and various bug fixes, but also a brand new app that you can’t get rid of.

Come April 24th, when Apple’s smartwatch finally gets a chance to meet some wrists, the new ‘Apple Watch’ app will come in very handy, allowing owners to pair their iPhone and watch before configuring various settings on the company’s first ever wearable. The app also includes a link to the watch’s App Store, though at the moment tapping it leads only to pre-order information.

Of course, well aware that this is an opportunity too darn good to miss, Apple has also included several videos in the app so anyone yet to be convinced as to the wisdom of forking out upwards of $349 for the device can learn more. And perhaps be persuaded to drop some cash for it.

The tech company is already splashing out on a global marketing campaign for its new smartwatch, but putting an app on iPhones containing links to promotional material is a shrewd and cost effective way of reaching millions of potential customers – ones who’ve already invested in Apple products and have the required hardware to get the watch working (ie. iPhone 5 or later).

However, if you’re absolutely certain the Apple Watch is not for you, and the app’s videos (should you take a peek) fail to whet your appetite, well, you’re stuck with it. The Apple Watch app cannot be deleted.

Best thing you can do is slide it into that special folder you created long ago with all those other apps (Stocks is probably in there) that you never use and can’t get rid of.
Can't they let us delete Apple Apps we don't want? We can always get them from the Apple Store.

PITA.
jailbreak still works right? Just jailbreak it and use the removeitall app. (Note: may not be that exact name but it's close). Allows you to delete anything you want.
What's the big deal? I just have a folder on my last page with apps that can't be uninstalled. Non-issue IMO
I know I shouldn't complain, but there are a bunch of sales videos on the app, and I couldn't find it in the list of apps and their usage, so you wonder how much space it uses. Just a bit annoying that I can't delete an app if I want to.

I'm a pretty big apple fan, but I gotta agree it's a little annoying that you can't delete certain apps.

Come pre-installed? Sure.

Install it with an update? Fine.

Install it and make it non-removeable? Ehhhh... not a fan.

Just my .02 of course.

Really tempted to go plus, if only for the battery life. The bigger screen and keyboard are nice throw ins.

saw a battery tip yesterday (I think this is post 8.2 release)...

Go to Settings --> Privacy --> Motion and Fitness --> turn Fitness Tracking off

I did this and haven't noticed any unusual battery drainage since installing the update

HTH
Yeah i use this fitness tracking, as it counts your daily steps. But I imagine it's a pretty big battery drain.

Cool tip for everyone, you guys may know this, but I never had.

Settings>General>Usage>Battery Usage

Shows you what drains your battery the most.

For me right now, Twitter is 21%, Kindle is 19% and Safari is 15%. That's tells me that my battery life is being drained by the things I'm doing, which I'm fine with.

If you notice your Home and Lock Screen eating up a significant amount of battery life, then something is wrong.
My Home and Lock screen is at 17%. What do I do to fix that?

Stop staring at your home screen waiting for girls to text you back.

The 6+ isn't hard at all to handle for me. When i compare to other peoples 6's there is no way i'd trade, they look tiny in comparison.
I agree. I often use my 6+ one-handed and I've never used the screen pull-down thing.

Would like to know this as well. Mine home and lock are 20%. What functions are being counted under that?

Installed the mobile FBG iOS app. I have a 6 Plus and this app blows goats. It's like abandonware. It doesn't even scale to the screen size.

Just port the forum to Tapatalk. Your app sucks.

Dumb question. My att iPhone 4s got crunched. My MIL gave me her Verizon iPhone 5. Can I switch these phones out? Is there an activation fee?

WTF happened to my safari. It looks different now when I open a page and it doesn't save cookies. Had to log into this website like 15 times today.

Anyone else having delayed text messages? Happened to me Friday night, and now I just received 18 text messages at once, a few dated from Friday. ? That's normally a carrier problem, right? (On AT&T)

I thought this was a message board problem. Seems like I'm constantly logging in on mobile and it's been going on forever.

Just started with me the other day. Turned my phone on and my safari has a dark border and I have to log in everywhere. Here, Facebook, etc

One thing I found with iOS is that it's a lot more minamalist than Android, even in it's "pure" form, and IMO a lot more efficient. Gone are the days of tweaking a device to get the full potential out of it. I'm downloading less apps than I did with Android. Why I didn't switch to iOS years ago just makes me wish I had. Especially when it comes to updates. Lol at Samsung. Their devices are cheap compared to the 6 Plus. They will never get it right, even with all that over engineering.

Why aren't you using Chrome?

Why isn't he using Dolphin?

The problem maybe that this site - and this is proven with the crap iOS app - is not being updated because they are either scaling down, or just plain lazy to code to native apps like Safari, which is a fine browser. I get that they may be doing a complete overhaul - which is needed - but if their own mobile app sucks complete ### on iOS, then it's not the browser.

"Hey, we're still dealing with IE! Even though it's being ditched in Win 10!" - Tech staff to Joe B.

Edit: the mobile app suck complete ### in iOS 8, because it is still written for a few versions of iOS backwards. That's an in-house issue as far as coders, and not a Safari issue when it comes to browsers.

I was. :bag: x 10000000

I spent like 3 days googling this and would have never figured it out without this post. Many thanks, and I am a gigantic moron.

Lol no. If that was it I would've known how to figure it out. I didn't even know private was an option. Must've fat-fingered it.

Good answer...

My 6 battery life improved a LOT when I completely reset and manually downloaded all apps and such from scratch. Pulled numbers/calendar from iCloud.

Then again I'd been restoring from the same backup for 3 years... But the word is stuff can get corrupted and can lead to battery issues.
Does this also lead to app closing issues? I've noticed recently that many apps will die on open (Costco and Apple Maps - Have to use Google Maps) or during scrolling (weather map on the Weather channel app). They all worked fine before and I haven't done the most recent update. I am going to try the update and see if that helps. Really annoying, but nothing I can't work around so I haven't had a chance with work/sports for the kids to do the upgrade on all my phones.

I may have to do the complete reset, but for my wife it is a bit of a pain because all of her contacts are local. I guess I can use the cloud since I sync to Outlook.
Well, since no one else had any helpful hints, I went ahead and upgraded to 8.2 on mine and my wife's phone and the apps closing and voicemail password (my wife) issues went away. I didn't want to have to do a complete restore, that was nice. That 8.1.x iOS was awful, so many apps just wouldn't run, including Apple Maps.

I took my 5 in today for a battery test (I'm not in the battery recall unfortunately)... they said the battery is old but they suggested I do a complete reset and restore manually like you suggested.

Would be nice if it worked... like the phone except for the battery. I was getting 3 hours of usage between charges so it was getting a bit ridiculous.

So what's the best way to dump my six plus pictures onto my p.c. Do I need an app?
if you plug it in to the pc via the USB cord, the "Scanner and Camera Wizard" should come up, and you can copy pics just like you would off of a digital camera or memory card
I'm getting nothing with six plus through USB. My 5s does but not this one.
hmmm do you see your phone listed as a drive when it's plugged in?

hmmm, could be a number of things. I would try making sure you have the lastest iTunes version and then reboot your PC. If it still won't work, may have to google "Camera and Scanner wizard not launching" or something along those lines

So I uninstalled all things iTunes and rebooted. Don't ya know, that did the trick. I was able to import the pics right into Picasa. Thanks.

Yea, no.
Your desk needs someone to work at it.
