The Apple iPhone Thread (2 Viewers)

Why would I need more than 16 GB? I have a macbook and mini mac at home so I assume all pictures would immediately transfer to the other machines. How fast does video recording chew up 16 GB. I won't be using it for music as I like my Sony Walkman. Really wouldn't be buying the damn thing except I want to get away from a hand held calendar and mileage log.
Even with cloud storage, most images/files are also stored or cached locally.

16GB phone = OS + about 12GB of free space.

On my phone I have 5.3GB of Messages (SMS/MMS) and 12.5GB of Photos & Videos, though I'm likely excessive.

Many Apps are 500MG-1GB.... most are at least 100MG.

I have zero downloaded songs, but Spotify takes up about 4GB due to offline playlists.

Unless you a a VERY light user who has no intent on storing content (photo/music/video) on your phone, then a 16GB phone is simply way too small.

I
I agree with this. I got a 6 plus 16gb thinking I would take advantage of onedrive and the like and not need more than 16gb. It was possible, but took a lot of monitoring, uploading (automatic but it does require remembering to open the app), and deleting. Didn't take long til I went with 64gb.

A related note, I feel pretty good about the space gray 128gb 6 plus I got for my girlfriend today for $400...
Now if Apple would just put in a slot for a MicroSD chip, all this would be solved! ;)

Agree with all of this. If your getting a 6s 16GB simply isnt enough. I have a 5 and regularly run out of space. With the live photos and 4k video, 16GB would fill up quickly. I just got the 128GB.

Just did some math on the new sprint "iphone forever" trade in. Unless I'm missing something it looks pretty appealing.

First off, you need to be in an area where Sprint is good...I know they're probably the 2nd to least or least preferred carrier, but my wife has no issues with them at all, and they're the best priced...so as long as you're good with Sprint, this appears to makes sense.

For unlimited text, talk and data; you'll be paying $60/month. For an additional $22/month, you lease the phone and are able to upgrade for free when a new phone comes out.

To really find out if it's worth it, you need to figure out what the cost would be if you purchased the phone outright ($649) unlocked through apple. Assuming you did that, and wanted to sell it after a year, you can probably get about $439 for it on ebay (about $400 after fees). So your cost of carrying the phone for a year is $20.75/month. Really a negligible difference of a buck or so a month and you get to automatically upgrade without going through all of the selling hassle.

Plus, if you trade in your smart phone now, the $22/month gets reduce to $15 for the first 22 months.

All these #s are for the 16GB 6s....the plan goes up $5/month for the 64GB, but obviously so would the sale price of the phone, so there's a correlation there

Am I missing anything

Cell coverage. If you live someone and go places that sprint works well in, then it's good. Problem is their coverage is spotty in many locations.

Well, yeah...hence my "first off....." sentence

talked myself into it. ordered the 6s 64gb phone.
Should have gone plus. I don't know anyone who regrets going with the plus and quite a few that regretted going with the regular
still think it's way too big for me. not interested in carrying that monster around all the time and pulling it out to use on the el, etc.

I never really had an issue with the size of my 5.

Pretty much what most of the guys said prior to getting the plus. It's similar to how I felt as well but after getting the plus no way I could go back to a 6/6s and I don't have Otis hands.

Eh... I know two folks who downsized. I have zero regrets going with the 6. Some folks want that phablet experience but it's definitely not for me. I don't doubt some folks wish they went 6+, but I think the "Everyone wishes they would have gone bigger" effect is pretty seriously overblown by a few folks in here.

Signed, 6' tall guy with Otis-ish hands (wear a size 13 shoe) who prefers the one-handed use of the 6.

Anyone mess around with iOS 9 yet?
Been on 9 beta for a few months. Very awesome. Performance, battery life, a few tweaks.
Yep.

So I have a light leak/broken pixel situation right in the middle of my 6 screen. Unless the image is black, there is a bright white dot right in the middle of the screen. Is this something they will swap out at the genius bar if the phone is still under warranty?

After 6 weeks with the iPhone 6 Plus, I can say I've made a terrible mistake......I Should have gotten the 6!

As much as I love this phone it's always awkward to hold. No way to use one handed. I got it because I thought it would be great to watch movies and TV Shows on but I found out I hate watching video on this "tiny" screen. I prefer the full sized iPad.

I'm 6'0 tall and have HUGE hands and I miss being able to comfortably type in landscape. I'll be getting a 6 probably whenever I can afford to buy both the phone and the full sized iPad. I'll withhold judgement on an iPad Pro until I see and use such a device.
Sure he does.

My hands aren't big. At All. But I can use it one handed no problem.

So some people, including myself, had the issue of not being able to update apps after the ios9 install.

Solution: sign out of your apple account, then sign back in.

I went with the 6s plus after chastising it as too big when the 6 plus came out. My turning point was being at a neighborhood party and having all 3 of my neighbors pull out their 6 plus phones. I asked them if any of them felt it was too big, and they all said no way and that they could never go back to the smaller ones.

Man...It's hard to talk about this topic without penis innuendos.

Ended up switching to Verizon and sharing data, gonna save about $20/month and we'll both be on new phones every 2 years

I was navigating the att site and went through pre ordering just to see what the price would be

Can you really not buy the phone without the att next thing. Bummer

I may have to go to the store and see what I can do

Through AT&T you can buy it via several next options, subsidized at the $199, 299 etc prices, and full price up front. Right below the next, click 2 year contract or no annual contract and it will change the pricing to those.

You can also buy it from Apple full price or on their new monthly plan.

for people on a family share plan, if you buy the subsidized version, you lose your monthly discounts. So, it ends up being more expensive overall.

Exactly.

Maybe a stupid question.....

But why does the "e-mail" app have nearly a GB of data on my 16 GB phone when the e-mail is a gmail account? Isn't all the data "in the cloud"? I mean, it's not physically stored on my phone, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see the same e-mails on my computers and such. What's actually being stored, and why is it so large?

Thanks. I guess I didnt completely read. Appreciate it

Anyone have a good case for screen protection that isn't too bulky? Yep, cracked my 3rd one and I can no longer justify going naked with it. :wall:

Just like any other IMAP client, the iPhone syncs your emails from, in your case GMail, to your phone. They do get stored locally on your phone. There is an option to only sync the last few days, or a month, but then if you want to go back and see prior emails, you'd have to re-sync.

The other option would be to use the GMail app. Nothing stored locally with that one... works just like the GMail web interface.

I would think it would do that anyway.

Been pimping this case for a year.http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MOOF4D8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1442591237&sr=8-2π=SY200_QL40&keywords=unicorn+iphone+6+case&dpPl=1&dpID=51ighLN78CL&ref=plSrch

Work in construction. Lots of op for destruction and dust. It's way less bulky than an otterbox and just as good.

I don't necessarily regret getting the plus, but it is a pain in the ### sometimes. I wouldn't push anybody into getting the 6+ over the regular size.

That's just not the way IMAP clients work...

Woah... I've had beta iOS 9.1 installed a few days now and had 9 for a few months. I saw in an article about iOS 9 integrated Siri...

I texted back and forth with my mom yesterday about dropping by her house this afternoon. Her house isn't anywhere near mine and in completely different towns 100 miles apart. Typically if I scroll the "today" down it will tell me how long it takes to get home. I just scrolled it down and it told me how far it is to my mom's house.

My 6+ started doing this before I upgraded to 9. Been meaning to take the phone in, but haven't done it yet.

Seems to be intermittent or random almost. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and I haven't noticed any particular pattern of when it does/doesn't work. I suppose it could be the app(s) in question also.

I notice it most with texting. Its almost as if something's loose inside the speaker.
