The Apple iPhone Thread (7 Viewers)

I would be so much more likely to switch back to an iPhone (now that they have larger phones) if I knew I wouldn't have to deal with iTunes with it. Unfortunately, I find myself having to use it to clear up stupid problems again and again with my wife's and daughter's iphones and ipads. Last time, it was to really delete photos off the wife's iphone to clear up space on it, since deleting them using just the phone itself somehow left them there in a different location still taking up the space.

This time, she updated her ipad and it got stuck on the "slide to upgrade" screen, which is apparently a known problem. Since none of the other fixes worked, I had to put it into recovery mode with iTunes and factory reset it. What a pain. It brought back bad memories of how many times I had to do that kind of stuff with my iphone 4.

Anyway, if you haven't upgraded yet, I suggest making sure "Find my iPhone" is turned off before you do so, just to be safe. That seems to be part of the problem. When connected to itunes, it wouldn't let me backup the ipad because "it wasn't set up yet" and wouldn't let me restore until I "turned off find my iphone on the ipad." I couldn't turn it off on the ipad itself because it wasn't working and turning it off on icloud.com didn't remove the error.

Anyone get theirs yet?
Got my 6s Plus. Love it so far. Hey siri feature is pretty awesome. Also this thing is really sturdy. Saw a few reviews where people literally tried to snap it and you cant. you can sit on this thing and it wont have any issues.

And this thing is super fast. touchID is instantaneous!

Got mine yesterday. I haven't had a ton of success with force touch yet. When I press down hard it just turns it into the mode where I can delete/move the app.

Some apps havent updated to take advantage of it yet. But should be coming in the next few days. Most of the apple apps can though. You can also adjust the touch sensitivity. moving it to light is helpful imo.

Yeah, my wife is liking it a lot so far, and I think it is a pretty cool feature. Pressing on the camera app and choosing to open it in selfie mode will probably be a popular use. And the pop and peek functions are neat, too, to preview things like emails or links and then pressing harder to open it or letting go to go back to what you were doing.

We also really like the thing where you press on the keyboard to turn it into a track pad for the cursor when you want to make changes to something.

The delete/move option only comes up for my wife if she long taps the icon (like before). For icons that don't have the force touch function, they just jump up for a split second when you press and then go back to normal. So I think you're right about the sensitivity if you're getting the move/delete from pressing.

No way I would go to the Apple store today for something other then getting then new phone.

Got my 6S Plus over the weekend...It's interesting. I was worried about the size being an issue in my pocket. Not so much. The issue is the size in my hand. It just feels really big. I've almost dropped it 2-3 times. I need to get better at one-handed usage. I do like the size for general use though, and the size in my pocket isn't a bother at all.

I haven't really done anything with the 3D touch yet. I'm behind on things like the Wallet and other new functionality too...I'll get there at some point.

If you delete something from your my photo stream on your phone, does it delete it from your Mac as well?

I downloaded vacation photos a week ago and now can't find them on my Mac.

I've got an iPhone 5. Should I upgrade to iOS 9.0.2?
Anyone?
Don't do it! My IP5 had a really bad battery and it went from bad to terrible after 9.0.2. I need to charge 2-3 times a day now and I dont use it a ton... mostly web surfing. No FB, gaming, videos etc. To be fair though it's a bit better on 9.1 but still not nearly as good as it was on 8.4X.

At this point I'm looking for a new phone... I like the 6S but I don't want to drop $750 on one, so I might give one of the new Android phones a shot.

I have the Nexus 6, which you can buy for $289 now.

The 6 looks good but its so damn big... 5x is the right size but I wish the 5x was a more premium build like the 6P appears to be.

On a side note, I was ready to buy the 6S from Verizon because of a $300 trade in offer but apparently they only give that to new customers so they can go scratch.

I have the 6+ and didn't update til a few weeks ago so I was quite a bit behind. The phone is a little bit slower and chunky afterwards (transitioning between apps a bit slower and not smooth, lots of minor graphical glitches). Not really loving the features they added so I'd wait if you don't need to update.

My main issue with iOS devices is their horrid charging cables. They seem to fall apart before you open the package, even those that are MFI approved by Apple. I know the Apple ones last longer, but they are really expensive, and when kids use them, they will destroy them easily by pulling them out wrongly, usually too far from the connector.

So, I had to buy a new case for my iPhone 6. I bought one of these Spigen Qi wireless charging cases. I love it. I also bought two of these charging bases, one for near my computer and one on bedside table. Sometimes you have to carefully adjust where the phone sits on the base, but that's it. It charges quickly, so that's not a problem. The case is nice and strong, I haven't had any problems with dropping the phone yet :knockonwood: You can still charge via a cable or sync to your computer; the case transfers power to the phone via a connector from the case to the phone that you can pull out if you need to get access to the lightning port.

I know it's just a copy of the way some Android phones do their wireless charging, but it's a shame that Apple hasn't moved this way yet, so we have to do things like this. Thankfully it is a growing process, heck you can get cases and charging bases from IKEA of all places.

Check out this sweet game, Monument Valley. Winner of Apple Design Award 2014. Average rating is 4.7 out of 5 with 19,957 reviews. Was a paid game but I got it for free about a week ago.

Beautiful game. Smart. Excellent artwork and music. Calming and not frantic. Creative brain teasers and problem solving. Kids love it too.

What are people's favorite apps for navigation? Am going to begin using my iphone for navigation in my van? (Had been using an old Garmin Nuvi forever)

I don't mind paying a bit for it, not a fortune!

TIA

Is there a way in any navigation app to display the music that you are playing? At least the song name when it first comes on. On a long trip, used the map app on the iPhone today, traffic not an issue on turnpikes thru PA, OH, and IN. Well, there aren't many options if you run into a jam!

Does Waze use a lot of data?
Not really but it's actually integrated into Google Maps since Google owns them :)
Somewhat yes but waze offers much more info/detail that google maps does not.

Just picked up 2 iPhone 6S's (64 gb) from Best Buy, BOGO. The discount is realized as statement credits of $21.67 per statement. Oh, and a $200 Best Buy gift card. I was able to use that for the taxes that were due.

The fine print is that you have to be adding a new line, you have to be purchasing (or leasing if you see it that way) via AT&T Next, and enrolling in Mobile Share (I got 15 gbs for $100 + I get a 15% discount through work).

How do you turn off voice control? Google results saying you can't and I may have defective headphones. I'm running on the treadmill listening to Spotify and voice control keeps coming on interrupting the music. It just started happening a few days ago and I've been using the earbuds for months.

Siri is off.

are you bumping the home button while you're running? not sure what would make it come on automatically if the "hey Siri" feature is disabled

^^ No I put Spotify on and the screen goes dark or whatever and the music plays for a bit and then the Voice Control goes on. Could it be the motion the phone is making when I have it on my arm or sitting on the treadmill? Google results indicate you can't disable Voice Control and I can't find anywhere to turn it off.

from a link:

The solution to the Voice Control thing is odd. You actually have to turn Siri ON. With Siri on, it replaces Voice Control, and that specifically won't pop up anymore. Instead, Siri will. Siri will do the exact same thing, so now, we make it so Siri doesn't make those calls.

You go to settings>general>passcode lock. Turn it on. Pick a pass code. Then, on the same screen, scroll down and click Siri, turning it off.

This will make it so, in order to use Siri, you have to have typed in the passcode. If the passcode has not been typed, it won't activate. Thus, eliminating calling Mr. Cousin whom you forgot you even had their phone number, and playing embarassing songs during inconvinient moments.
