Devil's Advocate
Just a couple of stray thoughts now that the fantasy season is in the rear-view.

I love the direction in which Minnesota and Houston are headed. Both teams fared far better than I expected in their first year under new head coaches. The Vikes have a future star at QB and youth everywhere on defense. The Texans won 9 games despite getting virtually nothing out of the #1 overall pick. And they have a very bright young coach. I wish we had one of those. :(

I like how the Browns fight for Pettine, too. They have only been uncompetitive in a couple of games. But they have a huge question mark at QB and they're in an absolutely brutal division which doesn't look to be getting much weaker anytime soon.

Anyway, it was a good season overall. Always love seeing an infusion of young talent come into the league.

would like to see Blackmon get his head on, has some young wr prospects, shoelace, a decent defense in the making. get him an o-lineman or 2 in the draft.....

I'd also like to see teddy get a good wr to lean on in minny.

In my opinion, the Texans need to make a play for a Quarterback this off season. I like what Bridgewater can do for the Vikings and the team is easily a Wild Card team when Adrian Peterson returns. Who knows, maybe a year of rest could be a good thing for Peterson.

Raiders are a talentless cesspit right now, but Derek Carr carries himself like a vet and Khalil Mack is tearing it up. I'd like to see Carr behind a proper (rather, more motivated) O-line, with a defense that can tie it's own shoes.

I like where Minnesota is headed. I hope they are able to get some value for Adrian Peterson. Bridgewater had exactly zero elite weapons this season and still played well enough. He needs some help though.

Norv Turner turned Charles Johnson into a viable WR. If the Vikes send AP away it will be inetersting to see if they get a good RB to compliment McKinnon and the rest of the offense.

The Browns unfortunately played in the toughest division this year and they did great but they have a culture problem. I'm not sure if the coaching turnover was really worth it in the end.

The Texans need an excellent QB, period.

I think the Browns need a reset and that comes in the form of a true QB to step in there. Not sure what is available though.

The team needs to make Manziel a backup period. Gordon needs to be traded away. Crowell and West need to take that next step. Getting Mack back would be huge. I'd like them to bring in a playmaker on the outside. Gordon is probably better than anyone they can find but also can't be relied on. A Golden Tate, Eric Decker or Emanuel Sanders type of acquisition would go a long way.

They needs somebody to step up and lead the locker room.

As far as the Vikes, they have a decent enough RB stable between McKinnon (who is more explosive) and Asiata (who is nothing special but is a hammer and decent in the passing game). They could send Peterson away and not miss a beat. Patterson is only a gimmick guy at this point. Get him the ball on trick plays and what not. They need a bonafide #1 WR.

Texans are an enigma. How in the world were these guys playing for a playoff spot with that roster? Must be good coaching. Props to them.

Jags...Bradley is not a head coach. They have shown zero improvement. He's a rah-rah guy yeah, but his X's and O's aren't getting it done...he's a lesser Herm Edwards. No excuses. Yeah, they're young, but so are the packers, cowboys, and a handful of other playoff teams...I'm not buying that excuse.

The Vikes could do some real damage with ADP back next year. Imagine if Teddy had defenses stacking the box more. Agreed that CPat isn't a true WR, yet. Best thing that could happen to him is to take him out of the lineup. Give him time to develop if he's able.

Jennings, Johnson and Wright should be the starters next year barring FAs or rookies. If ADP is back the passing game's production increases by 20%.

You think Jennings is coming back for 11M?

Didn't put much thought in it. My point was that CPat shouldn't be considered at all in the starting 3 next year.

I saw that after reading your post againCPat still has much to learn as a true WR

I have not seen much of the Vikings this year, but then who has, other than Viking fans? From what I have seen they are starting to build something there, which, as a packer fan worries me a bit. They have to resolve the A,P. matter, clear Jennings to a manageable cap number, and figure out if Kahlil is an answer or needs to be moved, but all in all they seem to have a direction for the first time in a while.

Despite you not watching much of them this is spot on (except for the Packers fans worrying - we have a ways to go as long as Rodgers is there).

Carr and Mack are a core to have under cheap contracts for another 3 years. If the Raiders can draft well next year and sign some decently priced free agents I can see them turning things around quickly.

A lot of credit goes to McKenzie for fixing their cap situation. Cutting Schaub and James Jones puts them at $80M for 2015.

Someone on the forum once famously said that Carroll was a "rah-rah coach" too. Interesting, since Bradley was his understudy. I'm not prepared to make a judgement either way on his coaching acumen just yet. That roster is garbage. Vince Lombardi wouldn't have won 5 games with that team.

Getting rid of AP, Jennings and Greenway clears $25M of cap.

It would have been nice to see what Tom Savage could have done for the Texans had he not been hurt.

Sanchez isn't excellent but would be improvement over what they have. Glennon should also be available cheap.

Two things about the Texans -

The obvious question is what they do about the QB. They finished well enough to not be in the Mariota/Winston sweepstakes.

And then there's this-

Five defensive starters are at the end of their contracts. All of them believe something special is in the works on #Texans defense.
They have a tough call on Andre Johnson - is he still worth $10.5M?

Respectfully disagree. Sanchez is terrible. Any success he had this year was a product of Chip's offense. I'd much rather roll with Mallett if he gets back to full strength after the injury, or maybe unearth a capable QB in the 2nd round.

You know I would hate to see those 3 go but with the FA class this year that could be huge. I believe that would give the Vikings around 33 million in cap space.

I don't think so. Hopkins is better at this point.

I think the team with the brightest future is the Packers. Already have a star qb (top 5), have stars at the playmaking positions, are the 6th youngest team in the league, and has a front office that is known for pulling long term starters out of every draft every year. The Vikings look like they might be on the rise, since Bridgewater looks good, but is he going to be a star? In my mind, star qbs throw for yardage and do not just manage games, we will see how he is when he is asked to throw for yardage. The rest of their roster is looking pretty solid though.

The Texans will always be good as long as they have Watt. He is Reggie White 2.0, you can just plug guys all around him. They blew it this year though. Clowney is a bust. If they can find an answer at qb, I like their chances.

Cleveland sucks. They need to flat out cut Manziel. Why that idiot was throwing a party on the Friday before a game defies logic. Who ever does that? Plus the fact some of them couldn't wake up tells you everything you need to know, it was a 'White Christmas' party. Any seasoned partier can drink like a fish and still wake up the next day for an important meeting. It only becomes hard when you add lines into the mix. Cut him or the locker room will be destroyed. I would not be against cutting Gordon either, he obviously will not be able to hold it together.

Not a tough call at all, he is already acknowledging he needs to take a big cut in pay. Otherwise get rid of him, he sort of took a step back this year anyways.

Yeah, but the spirit of the thread was discussing teams which aren't already.... great.
In that case, yes...the Vikings and Texans can go into this offseason with great optimism. Vikes should try to get the Cowboys first rounder for AP. The Boys are probably the only team who would give a high pick for him, and you have to admit that their offence is ready to just plug him in. He will also most likely be cheaper than Murray and he will be viewed as a hero since football is more important than children in Texas. Win/Win for both sides.

Even Jerry wouldn't be stupid enough to surrender a 1st-round pick for a 30-year-old RB when he has one on his roster who just rushed for 1,845 yards.

Didn't his son have to basically tackle him to stop him from taking Manziel in the first round?
Reportedly. But he does have people with common sense surrounding him.
And good tackling technique, I think. I do agree though, that they won't give up a first for AP. It just pains me to believe that Jerry's prudence would play any role in that.

Vikings need to almost completely revamp their WR, OL, and LB spots (other than Barr, of course).

Need two corners and a safety too.

Just shows you what having a competent QB will do for a team.

His cap hit is currently $16 million if he plays, $7 million if he is cut. I could see the Texans trying to take his cap number down by about $5.5 million by reducing his base salary for 2015 from $10.5 million to $5 million. He would still have a roster bonus due to him of $1 million which would mean his total compensation would be $6 million from the Texans. Steve Smith got $4.5 in signing bonus and salary from the Ravens this year, so I can't see Andre getting much more than that on the open market.

While his cap number would still be too high for his worth to the team, the Texans would get to keep their career number 1 receiver (I think this is something McNair would like) and Andre would probably make more from the Texans than he could on the open market. He is still a very serviceable #2 receiver.

I think the Texans re-sign Mallett, cut Fitzpatrick, and possibly draft another developmental QB, depending on what is available. Also sign a veteran back-up for Mallett.

Mallett looked really good in his first start with the team. His 2nd start he played injured the whole game (hurt himself in pregame activities).

I would draft a whole lot of defense around Watt.

Malcom Floyd is due $3M in salary next year from the Chargers and if they could get Andre for a few million more I'd be pissed if they didn't.

I think he would also rather play with Rivers than any QB the Texans have.

Don't really disagree with anything you said, but it's worth pointing out that both the Vikes and Texans are in divisions with all-world QBs who seem to have a stranglehold on the division championship. Obviously, they can still get into the playoffs, but it's a lot harder to do damage when you're a road wildcard team.

We should trade him to Seattle for a 1st. Seattle likes doing that with us.
Actually I think everyone is forgetting Oakland. They seem to lack faith in Murray and management does not seemed to have changed much since Al passed. I think they would be willing to trade a first for him.

Negative. I assure you that everyone in that building who has a say realizes we are not just a stud RB away from being a playoff team.
