Good job.
Agree with pretty much everything but saw something that Waldman wrote in terms of Weeden and his armstrength.
Looking forward to recaps on the other divisions.
Waldman mentioned WR Carlton Mitchell outrunning QB Colt McCoy's throws last year as the reason he has been so silent and also mentioned the WR the Browns drafted from Miami, Travis Benjamin, as two guys who could vertically stretch the field if the Browns ever got a QB who had an arm like a Brandon Weeden.
This is Matt's post-draft write-up on Cleveland's draft:
Browns
What I like about Brandon Weeden is his big arm. Bill Smith of Frying Pan Sports mentioned on his draft day podcast that receiver Carlton Mitchell didn’t see much of the field last year because he routinely outran Colt McCoy’s range on vertical routes. If this assessment is true, Mitchell might be the reason the Browns only added one receiver with true vertical skill in this draft, Miami Hurricane Travis Benjamin.
In terms of potential, a trio of Little as the flanker, Mitchell as the split end, and Benjamin in the slot looks dangerous. Benjamin is a better route runner than I think some of my colleagues think and he’s a good return specialist they can develop to replace Josh Cribbs if necessary. Trent Richardson may be the highlight of Cleveland’s draft, but they did draft other components with value.
Any chance that
'The Garden of Weeden' can boost the value of a guy like Carlton Mitchell? The the primary focus of any defense will be to load the box to stop Trent Richardson which will leave any WR with speed set to rip the top off so the Browns have to counter that defensive strategy with some sort of verticle threat and Mitchell 'could' possibly be a guy who could emerge.Props to Waldman for bringing this up. I don't put much stake in fifth round WRs who weigh-in at 176 lbs soaking wet. We haven't seen Jacoby Ford or Emmanuel Sanders be able to maintain their health for a season so Travis Benjamin might flash some potential but I think Carlton Mitchell could be worth a flyer if Weeden takes over and it appears the Browns are going to push him to start ASAP.
