The Birther Conspiracy Thread (2 Viewers)

In an episode early in Donald Trump's career, his New York real estate company was sued by the federal government for discriminating against potential black renters. After a lengthy legal battle, it ultimately agreed to wide-ranging steps to offer rentals to nonwhites.
Ah yes, the famous Washington v. Wellington case.

I think it really is beginning to die down now. While the crazies are still out there on the internet, I note that there is no one left around here willing to defend them anymore. All of the people on Pickles' list are eager to defend their own previous statements, but they all seem to concede the basic facts.I may have to change the thread title after all.
IOW, your hunt for comments to re-post from the first 60ish pages of this thread was a huge bust...

It was a bust because I got bored and grabbed stuff too quickly, Sam. If anyone wants to go back and look, there's some pretty embarrassing stuff there.

The cuttlefish is one of the most amazing animals on the planet. The thing is basically a swimming plasma TV. They're pretty awesome to watch as they change shape, size, and color to hypnotize their prey before pouncing on them.

His choices were brutal.....no one should question that. Even he acknowledges that :shrug:So, is this issue put to rest for you now?

What are my kids going to do when they run for President? The new birth certificates in MN are completely computer generated. Yes, they're on multi-colored, watermarked paper, but there are no "live" signatures or any other unique identifying marks. Just laser printed text. Steal a stack of that paper and Arnold could be President.

Are your kids white? Do you have an ethnic sounding last name?

Are they white, with white American parents, and do they look American? If so, you should be ok.

Do you think if Jesse Jackson or Condoleeezza Rice ran for president, we'd have seen a similar request for assurance that they are eligible?

No, and I made this point earlier. Obama's skin color is only part of it- the main part behind THIS conspiracy is Obama's last name and his father's nationality. However, if Jesse Jackson had been elected president there would have developed some kind of conspiracy designed to delegitimize him, but it wouldn't have involved his place of birth.

One of my best friends has a last name of Rice.

In truth, there are a lot of factors that have led to the popularity of THIS conspiracy. Obama's name, his father's nationality, the fact that Obama as a child lived in Indonesia, the fact that he was born in Hawaii (outside of the mainland U.S.A.) all helps people who are already inclined to dislike Obama to believe that he is an outsider, a foreigner.

However, to answer Sam Quentin's point, if Obama had the last name of Jackson and was born in Alabama, there would still be a conspiracy theory that would be quite popular, it would just be very different. The root of the birther conspiracy is that the people who bought into it really don't want Obama to be POTUS.

No matter who is elected President, people will develop conspiracies to delegitimize themAs far as "natural born citizenship," his father's nationality is actually material information in that determination. Is the requirement outdated? I say yes, but it is there.

Wasn't Hillary the root of this back in the primary? True, she did not want Obama to be POTUS.

Hillary had nothing to do with this. The conspiracy was started by pissed off Hillary supporters after she conceded- she never played a part. It never gained any popularity among liberals. It''s popularity has been limited strictly to conservatives who were seeking for a way to get rid of Obama.

:goodposting:Part of Obama's allure was that he was an outsider, that he was different. I bought into it, so did a lot of other people. I was looking forward to Obama ushering in a new era of transparency. If he would have initiated putting bills online for three days before signing them into law, future presidents would have felt pressure to do the same.Turns out he was just the emptiest suit ever, and more like Bush than any of us wanted to believe.

Only one main factor though. Obama's refusal to release the long form until now.
If someone started a rumor in your community that you were giving everyone herpes, would you say that the main reason the rumor persisted was because you refused to submit to an STD test? Or would you maybe think that the person who started the rumor was a gigantic doosh who shouldn't go around spreading nonsense and then demanding that you take action to address it?

If I were President of the United States and there was a constitutional mandate that the President of the United States NOT have herpes, I would have no problem releasing a clean STD medical test.Apples and Apples.

I seriously doubt any web sites actually compared Bush's actions as president to Hitler's reign.
Move0n.org, a very prominant Democratic organization which played a key role in Defending Clinton and has millions of dollars which it uses to promote Democrats, ran numerous Bush is Hitler ads on their website and
What? I can't find it. You took a month to work on it so I was expecting a long and well researched post.Your whole premise was that Hawaii would give a BC to anyone, so why is it pointless now? The BC proves nothing, anyone can get one! You need to get back on this horse and ride as far as you can.
