The C.O.W. Factor week 1 (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Costing Owners Wins or as we will now call this…the C.O.W. factor. FF owners draft players in early rounds expecting big returns. And while sometimes you get a little less than expected, these players so far in week 1 have left major holes in their owners starting line up.

QBs

Jake Plummer: What was that? 138 yds and 3 Ints? This was definitely one of those 8th-9th round QBs that many owners took as their QB1 waiting and stockpiling RB/WR to that point. I can’t imagine Denver throwing in the towel and starting Jay Cutler…but if Denver were to lose a couple more like this…it starts to sound more likely. Plummer owners would be wise to find a possible QB via the WW, or maybe even pick up Cutler…but the Denver pass game looked terrible.

Jake Delhomme: Not what owners had in mind. 186 and 1 Int…0TDs but Steve Smith was out of the line up. Hopefully he bounces back but a very odd start to the season for a team many picked to make a Super Bowl run…they were anything but super today.

Carson Palmer: 127 yds and 0TDs…weird game, it was raining sporadically thru the game but Carson should have faired better against KC. But it was so easy to hand off to Rudi the Bengals played it close to the vest for most of the game. This guy was a 3rd and in some drafts 2nd to 1st round pick. Not good.

Marc Bulger: Only 217 yds and 0TDs…problem was the Rams were set up in Denver all day. I watched this whole game and I was not impressed with the play calling for the Rams…I’m not sure they are going to even be close to what they have been in the past. Denver has a good secondary but they had to settle for 7 FG attempts…

RBs:

Shaun Alexander: Rough game 1 but I am sure things will get better for him. 52 total yards and 0TDs.

“Cadillac” Williams: Terrible with the rest of the Bucs today. Only thing promising was his 5 catches…he had 20 all last season. 22 yds on the ground today…yuck!

Reuben Droughns: 11 carries for 27 yards…ouch!

WR:

Joey Galloway: Nothing, nada, zip…he did that twice last season. Did nothing today against the Ravens.

Steve Smith: Simply put he was out this week. Still costs owners having to fill in for him on their rosters.

TJ Housh: See Steve Smith

Lee Evans: 2 rec for 25 yds…most owners felt he made a perfect WR3. he might still but most owners were hoping for far better than this.

Joe Horn: Another 2 rec for 25 yds. The offense is going to go thru Bush/McAllister. Deuce had 22/90 and Bush had 119 total yds…that appears to be their recipe. Horn will have to get better stats but he seemed to not be a priority today at all. Brees is the QB and he likes the short passes.

Nate Burleson: 1 catch for 31 yds…not what owners had in mind.

Roy Williams: 3rec 36 yds…This guy was pegged as top10 material…top20 for sure. For sure nothing. Owners always salivate at his potential…potential scored 36 yds today.

Kevin Curtis: I only wanted to put him in here for 1 reason. He looked worthless today. There were hardly any 3 and 4 WR sets…keep him as insurance but he will never make a good spot play IMO with what the Rams showed today…if he had 3 targets I would be surprised. Everything went thru SJax, Holt and Bruce as well.

Eddie Kennison: 1 catch for 14 yds…yippee!!!

So who do you think should be added to this list? Chime in. Little different than simply venting, try and give some analysis of what you saw. Maybe a guy has a bad game but he had a lot of targets...or maybe the holes simply were not there for the RB. How is this affecting the player moving forward. Time to get busy.

Evans really surprised me. Peerless Price and Josh Reed got a ton of looks. :(
There's no doubt in my mind that Lee Evans is far more talented than those 2 WR combined. I had a question about the game today. What was up with the field? It looked 4 inches thick and looked like a heard of wild elephants had been running up and down that field all week...it looked awful.

At least Evans is a guy who doesn't need a ton of looks usually. By my count he had 5 today, which is about what he averaged last year IIRC. This week against an apparent week MIA secondary that is prone to giving up big passing plays could prove telling if he doesn't produce much again. Also, I'd add Deshaun Foster to the list. His game wasn't AWFUL, but a lot of people expected a big game because he was facing a supposedly bad run D that he torched last year.

It looked like sand kept kicking up all day too. Must have been very hard and dry. Belechick must have thought it gave his team some sort of edge if they treated the field like that I'd guess.

These are my 2 QBs in 3 leagues :wall:

Add Chris Henry to WR list. He was listed as a "Shark move" this week, due to Houshmandzadah being out, and finished with 1 reception for -5 yards (0.5 for my PPR league). As they say, if it works, it's a "shark move", but if it doesn't, it's a bust. But I'll have no problem tossing him back to waivers.

I guess in combination with Plummer. You would have to add Walker and Smith to this list. I expect much better games out of this unit in weeks to come. If memory serves me correct, Denver had a terrible first game last year as well.

I think this was a small bump in the road. I watched most of the game and was actually quite please with what I saw out of Walker. He almost made an amazing catch that would have lead to a TD but just couldn't grasp it. He did have a bad drop on a slant, but he was running well and he did have some targets. He will be a big play guy for this team and move the chains.

I'm pretty sure i heard there was a NE Revolution game on it the day before. Probly partly explains the fields beat up nature.

Add T. Green to QB's.
Favre wasn't too impressive either (well, other than to Carl).
True but most owners knew not to take him as their #1 this year. Can someone tell him to dye his GD hair...at least try and look young Brett.
Well, when you take your first after 16 QBs are gone (it was only rd. 9), you do what you gotta do. And now all three of my starting QBs are in this thread.

Yeah, I fell for the Henry hype this weekend. Fortunately the guys I sat were Branch and Givens, so it really didn't cost me anything. I really need to find a WR3. :bag:

If Chris Henry "cost" your team a victory, I think you need to go back to the drawing board.I don't care how good anyone thought he would do.

BB probably had the ground keepers water it down to help his mudders keep up with LE.--> Bitter Bills Homer :bag:

I never said he cost me the game. I'm up 34+ points going into tonights game (opponent is only playing Cooley). I think I'm safe. But given his hype due to Houshmandzadah's injury, he was an absolute bust. But yeah, although he didn't cost me the win, I'm sure the move cost other owners wins. Thus, the C.O.W. factor.

The Perfect Draft

Stockpile RBs early - Check - Barber, Dunn :excited:

Grab undervalued WRs from the sweet spot later - Check R Smith WR2, E Kennison WR3 :yucky:

Wait on QB - Check T Green in the 8th

I guess you could say he is a bust, but the thread called for...

I don't think the author of thread meant early rounds of the waiver wire prior to the season starting

Good point. Carry on.

Following your Plummer analysis, I think you also have to include Rod Smith and J. Walker. Both were being drafted in rounds 4-6 and neither produced commensurate with that position.
