The Cardinal Game last night was a disgrace (1 Viewer)

They are gonna need to pull a 2006 to make it to the World Series. They went into the playoffs cold as hell then, too, and look what happened. But this team has a lot of things not going right for them right now. It is definitely concerning. Playing the Dodgers in the first round (which they will do, unless the Rockies win the next two games and steal the West from them) could be a good recipe for getting them back on track. We'll see.

Are people still stuck on the notion that how you end the season has any bearing whatsoever on postseason performance?

Phillies and Dodgers got embarrassed too. Rockies all the way?
I like the Yanks. I'll be root-root-rotting for the home team but I'm trying to be realistic.
You must be the change you want to see in the world.
Whatever Hitler.

They have played like hell the last 3 weeks. Yes, I think that is a problem.

:goodposting: No one is saying a team cannot suddenly turn it around when the postseason starts, especially when it has been done numerous times, including by the '06 Redbirds, but any fan would rather see his favorite team heading into the postseason playing well, as opposed to not playing well.

I don't think it matters at all. They have two premier starters and a whole lot of hitting to include the best hitter in the game who will cause more pressure problems than any one player in baseball. I think they'll be in the World Series.

I agree. They'll win most games Carpenter or Wainwright start, and they'll be in the others. Teams get complacent when they've locked up their spot, just one of those things. Unfortunate they couldn't get #20 for AW, but not really relevant to the postseason. Team to beat, IMO.

With Carp and Wainwright, I really like their chances to get past the Dodgers in the 1st round. I would be a lot more worried if they were playing Philly or Colorado in the 1st round. If they play well and win game 1, they will go to the NLCS. They just need one good win to get back on track.

Or not. Guess the OP had a right to be worried.

At least you didn't worry yourself.

Still sticking with that statement?
Definitely. One example of a team continuing their poor play into the postseason doesn't disprove the fact that there is no correlation between how hot a team is at the end of the season to how they play in the postseason.

Hated to see a guy cry about his team when they had 2 cy youngs, pujols and holliday. Now I'm not so mad.
