The Coming Gay Marriage Witch Hunt (1 Viewer)

To be fair, there is a stigma attached to those who stand up for their beliefs. As a Christian, I know there are going to be people who hate what I believe and stand for. That's fine, it's simply a human opinion to me. After all, what's popular isn't always right.

People are entitled to their beliefs without losing job, life or livliehood i would assume or is that an outdated thought?

I love the new America...."Think as we do or you lose your job and life". Awesome!!
That's what we call "freedom," my friend. It's not just for people who want to be able to bring guns to Arby's or post homophobic rants on Facebook. It's for companies making personnel decisions and people who want to call people idiots for posting homophobic Facebook rants too. If you don't like it you can leave, freedom-hater.

If a person wants to get married, I'm not going to stop it. That does not keep me from thinking that it's morally wrong. Besides, Scripture says that it's the act of any sex outside of God's plan for marriage that's wrong.

Depends on the belief.

It's always been hard for me being a white male Protestant here in the United States in 2014. You don't know my pain.

This is really precious. After years of routinely persecuting and criminalizing homosexuals, traditionalists can't handle a little heat now that public opinion has seen through their hateful beliefs.

I said no such thing, my good man. I simply inferred that you hated freedom, since you seem troubled by the notion that companies are free to hire and fire as they see fit.

If that is not the case I would be happy to hear your clarification. Do you not think companies should have that freedom? If not, why not? Perhaps we can get together and discuss it over a few cocktails?

I will be among the first to tell you that people calling themselves Christians have done some horrible things in the name of the greatest Man to walk the earth, and now are reaping the fruits of their labors. But forcing people out of work and community strikes me for the beliefs they hold strikes me as hypocritical. Whatever happened to live and let live? Quite frankly, if two men want to get married, that's not my business, however, forcing businesses to perform services to people for fear of some type of retribution, from anyone, is not the way to run a country.

I dont think people should be fired, inprisoned or killed for what they "believe", Thats a pretty unamerican concept but thats they way we are heading.

Interesting. I would agree that people should not be imprisoned or killed for what they believe. I'll be on the lookout for any indications that we're heading in that direction.

As for being fired, however- seems to me that the company should decide what people get fired for, not you, yes? Isn't that what freedom is all about?

I also don't think people are being fired for holding a belief. To the extent that it's happening, people are likely being fired because they are choosing to broadcast their belief in a way that is deemed to open up the organization to harm.

Humans are very hypocritical creatures. Jesus, in fact, explained it as such: "Why do you try to remove the speck from your brother's eye, yet ignore the plank in your own eye?" That's a paraphrase, mind you, but it gets the point across. People always want to say that someone else is worse than they are, ignoring their own issues. That doesn't work with God, because He sees all types of sin as being equal.

I am sure thats it.....

From the article:

Savvy conservatives and evangelicals are acknowledging, often privately, that public opinion is not in their favor. And they fear what will happen in the future to those who fought against the rising tide of public opinion.

“We have people who are losing their jobs, being smeared publicly because they hold the view that marriage is a union between one man and one woman,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, an evangelical think tank and lobbying organization. “They are called bigots. Homophobes. That is not the way we operate in a free society.”
Is this the definition of a "savvy" conservative - one that will occasionally concede to the existence of facts, even if only privately? My, how savvy!

I also like how capitalism is an unquestioned good, until suddenly businesses decide to fire people whose views could affect the corporate bottom line - as is their wont in a capitalistic economy - and suddenly that's "not the way we operate in a free society." It isn't?

To be fair you haven't given us any detail to go on here. Maybe you can describe yourself physically to help paint the picture? Are you tall? Muscle-bound? How much do you bench?

To be fair, there is a stigma attached to those who stand up for their beliefs. As a Christian, I know there are going to be people who hate what I believe and stand for. That's fine, it's simply a human opinion to me. After all, what's popular isn't always right.
A prejudiced belief is no less prejudiced because it's founded in religion
People are entitled to their beliefs without losing job, life or livliehood i would assume or is that an outdated thought?
So you would favor legislation regulating private businesses and prohibiting them from firing or refusing to hire people based upon their political beliefs?

That opens up an entire can of worms, because thn we'd have people suing for jobs because the owner/ manager is a filthy (insert political party or disparaging nickname related to said party here). Again, I say we should live and let live.

GordonGekko said:
My view on gay marriage is pretty simple.

If you are pro gay marriage, you should want gays to have the right to marry. Live and let live and all that.

If you are anti gay marriage, you should want gays to have the right to marry. How many happily married people do you know? Marriage is a fiduciary relationship. It grants the government the right to interfere and tell you how often you can see your kids and enable them to tell you that you are now financially destroyed because someone has buyers remorse in a No Fault divorce system.

If you just don't care about gay marriage, you should want gays to have the right to marry. It's GOOD FOR THE ECONOMY. People getting married spend money, weddings are a BILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS. People have to earn a living right? I'm not going to be a hater here if some wedding cake baker or photographer wants more opportunity to earn to send their kids to college.

Whether you are pro gay or anti gay marriage, I think it's time to shoot political correctness in the foot. Gay marriage IS NOT going forward because of more public acceptance ( How can you say that when anything said at all that a gay person might find negative is used like a weapon for bad PR? Don't think Michael Sam is a good pass rusher? SCREW YOU THEN BIGOT!) The "traditional" marriage rate is down. Marriage, again, is a BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY. To help prop it up, gays are being given the right to marry. It's about MONEY. It's ALWAYS ABOUT MONEY.

Letting women vote. Not forcing blacks to drink from a different water fountain. Not sending Asians to die by dynamite to build a railroad. Call it all what you want. It's always been about MONEY. Social change usually happens on the back of the desire for profit.

Gays are usually DINKS (Double Income NO KIDS) Of course advertisers and corporations want to pander to that BUYING POWER.

Sleep with a woman, sleep with a man, sleep with a goat, I could care less. Just stop acting like you saved three dying kids off of Omaha Beach about it. You aren't "courageous", not most of you. I think a 14 year old who just realized they are different and want to talk to their parents, at risk of being kicked out and hold to their beliefs and preference, to me that's COURAGE. But some adult trying to milk out a book deal in a PC cultural with lobbyists ready to give you a free lawyer wants to believe they play hero ball because someone uses their tonsils for a love induced speed bag?

Gays need to understand. Most people DON'T CARE. THEY DON'T GIVE A FLYING #### ABOUT YOUR BEDROOM. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN PROBLEMS. JUST STOP SUING EVERYONE OVER IT.

Gay or straight, have the guts to be honest enough to understand this is always and will always be about MONEY.
I stopped reading here, it was a sufficient statement of your views.

The rest is tl;dr, GB.
