The Derek Jeter farewell tour (1 Viewer)

If Jeter played in Kansas City for his whole life would anyone give a ####? (Other than Royals fans)
i dunno. Did people care about george brett? What about tony gwynn?
Jeter isn't as good as those two.

I think Drew Magary nailed the comp when he said if Jeter played in Houston he would be Craig Biggio and nobody would give a ####.
Youre right, Jeter wasnt as good as those two. But he also does have five championships so America got to know him watching the playoffs. Craig Biggio didnt have that kind of exposure.

I think Jeter would fall somewhere in between the Bretts/Gwynns and the Biggios. I think a good comp for him is a Chipper Jones because of the same type of playoff exposure. Chipper got a similar sendoff two years ago.

I can generally buy that but it's getting to be a bit much. And I don't mean the games; I'm not watching any Yankee games. It's just everywhere.

Once things start to take over my twitter I get angry. :hot:

I love Jeter. Love his game, love his approach, love his grit, love his leadership and clutch play in the post season.

But if he played in Kansas City or Pittsburgh he would not get all this attention. It's a product of being "The Captain" for the New York freaking Yankees.

So of course he is going to be percieved by some as "overrated".

But Jeter is one of the best SS in the history of game. It's not a glamour hitting position. But he sure was a heck of a hitter in the clutch moments throughout his career. Defensively in his prime...almost second to none. They don't make them like this that often. 20 years, one club. That's old school baseball.

Great player. But yeah...more hype due to where he plays.
With all due respect to my fellow Rush fan ;) , you are crazy if you think Jeter was second to none defensively at any time in his career. Saying that implies that he was as good as Ozzie Smith was defensively, and that is just crazy talk. Jeter wasn't even the best defensive shortstop of his generation, much less as good as the greatest defensive shortstop ever.

He was closer to the worst defensive SS of his generation than the greatest. Todem clearly doesnt know a single thing about baseball.
