The Dynasty "Next Move" Thread (2 Viewers)

Footballguy
So, I know there's a whole Assistant Coach forum, but we do a lot of advice seeking here, too, and that forum just isn't very popular. But sorry if this is a dumb idea.

The thought here is, a lot of people want to ask a specific question about what to do regarding a certain player or trade offer, but why not see if the sharks have any "freestyle" advice as to where you should be looking next? Post your dynasty roster, league specs, future picks, anything that's important to know, without necessarily saying anything about what your plan is going forward. And just see if somebody wants to chime in and say what their next general move would be. Things like:

• "You're good where you are, don't make any moves unless somebody wants to offer you something clearly beneficial for you."
• "You're great at RB, maybe shop Bucky Irving to see if you could get that top TE that you're missing."
• "You're on the brink of a championship-type of team. Try to unload those three first-round picks for a couple more solid players."

Whereas something like "Try to trade for Puka Nacua" may be too specific, since you would have no idea what the Nacua owner's roster looks like, so you wouldn't know if it made sense for him to trade Nacua.

I dunno, just a thought. Some potential cons:
• Any given poster may have similar advice regarding every dynasty team due to his own personal dynasty style. "Trade your picks away." / "Trade your picks away." / "Trade your picks away." / ...
• An entire team is a lot of information to take in. Not many people may be willing to put in that kind of time and effort to give any advice at all.
• Some advice may be pretty obvious. "You have absolutely garbage WR's, and 5 of the top 24 RB's. Hmmm, I wonder what you should do ..."

🤷‍♂️

ok, i'll go. I have two great teams and one rebuild.

How good is next year's rookie class, particularly WR?

I have five first round picks and four second round picks next year. Is next year's class expected to be good or should I be looking a different direction for rebuild?

I don’t think next year’s rookie WRs and TEs are that good. QB is strong. RBs have a couple decent ones in Love and Taylor, but not that deep. Baxter is a wildcard coming off a major knee injury. 2027 is the year for WRs.

I’ll give it a go. 12 team SF League I won last year, we added two additional IDP flex spots this year.

QB ( 1 + flex) - Caleb, nix, Bryce, Flacco, Ty Taylor, hooker, rattler, Winston

RB (2 + 3 flex) - Henry, Achane, Breece, J Wright, I Davis, Mullings, J Hunter, Crosby-merritt, T brooks

WR (3 + 3 flex) Evans, BTjr, G Wilson, DK, Mims, Odunze, Lockett, Whittington, restrepo, J horn

TE (1 + 3 flex) Ertz, Kincaid, Ferguson, sanders, Theo Johnson

DL (2, 3 flex) hutch, Garrett, will Anderson, paye, tuimoloau

LB (2, 3 flex) Roquan, Logan Wilson, Spillane, J Campbell, Trevin Wallace

DB (2, 3 flex) Cam Bynum, d James, watts, battle, Winston

I think I’m in decent shape, 3 starters are old (🤴, Evans, Ertz), but mostly young. TE and DB need work. solid overall. But I’m not sure what’s left to do.

I have all my 2026 and 27 picks plus the 27 first from probably the worst team.

If possible, trade 26 picks for a player you like plus a 27 first.

So how many total roster spots do you get? Since that will determine how many you eventually have to drop.

48 The roster is maxed, but no additional drops.

Ohh, yeah, I hadn't even noticed you clearly have already had your rookie draft. My bad. Anyway, IDP definitely not my forte as I've never played it.

I guess my first thought is, on the offensive side, you're in a good-not-great place all around. No real weakness, but not stacked either, though you do have the potential for a monster 1-2-3 punch at RB, two of which are young. Nice mix at WR. Three high potential young QB's seems like a really good place to be in 2QB.

So far this feels like nothing more than a "rate my team" deal, but I suppose that would have to be the first step in the process.

Such a vastly different league from mine ... hmmmmmmmm. I'm gonna have to leave it at that for now and see if I have any better thoughts later.

Yeah, the first step in assessing what to do is to see where you currently are, then where you want to go. It’s like reading a map.

12 team Superflex, TE Prem (2.0)

Took over this orphan this offseason. Made a bunch of trades to firmly punt 2025 and position myself for 2026/27.

QB: Drake Maye, Jalen Milroe, Joe Milton, Gardner Minshew, Aiden O’Connell

RB: Omarion Hampton, TreVeyon Henderson, Bhayshul Tuten, Rachaad White, Kendre Miller

WR: Tee Higgins, Jayden Higgins, Luther Burden, Quentin Johnston, Jalen Royals, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Troy Franklin, Jimmy Horn, Tutu Atwell

TE: Trey McBride, Mason Taylor, Isaiah Likely, Tyler Conklin

Picks: my own 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and an extra 2026 2nd (likely late)

Some of my own ideas…curious what others think:

QB - gotta be patient here because I’m tanking this year so no point in having a QB2 scoring a bunch of points.

RB - I’m basically willing to move any of these guys for WR/TE/future picks if the value is right. I don’t want to build around RBs but that’s where the value was in this draft so I took guys I think will at least hold their value.

WR - would love to deal Tee Higgins for a guy a couple years younger and less injury prone. But he seems like the kind of guy I can get more for in season. I also think he’s a stud when healthy and wouldn’t be opposed to simply holding.

TE - trying to stay stacked/strong at TE and continuously looking to add here if opportunities present.

How good is next year's rookie class, particularly WR?
No one knows. Automatically ignore anyone who expresses any sort of confidence. In a superflex league, it would have been totally reasonable to believe that Carson Beck, Sheduer, and Ollie Gordon would be the top 3 picks 365 days ago. None of those panned out.

We think the WR class sucks next year. It probably does. There will certainly be 2 or 3 guys who establish themselves as no doubt about it 1st rounders in 12 team SF. Ricky Pearsall, Jayden Daniels, Cam Ward, Matthew Golden, RJ Harvey, and Bo Nix are the proof in the pudding.

If your looking for WR's the 2027 class has two of the best in recent years in Ryan Williams & Jeremiah Smith. I'd trade some 2026 picks to get up to the top 2-3 in 2027

This team, man. This team. 12 team 1QB short-ish benches. No TEP. Dunno if it's luck or the makeup of the team but it's been a contender for the past few years and never gotten over the hump. My main beef with this roster is that there are a lot of very good players and no true alpha studs (BTJ is arguable).

QB: hurts, tua
RB: Kamara, Bucky, walker III, Mixon, Hubbard , Ford
WR: BTJ, Godwin, D Smith, kupp, Pittman, Mooney, Wandale, Golden, QJ, Hopkins
TE: Andrews, njoku, Kmet, likely
Def: kc, gb, chi

I have all my 26 and 27 picks

Where do I go from here to get over the hump?

• The first thing that jumps out at me, probably falls into the category of one issue I mentioned in the opening post (that is, some people may just give the same advice for every team, because they have a particular style). And that thing is, I almost never hold more than one DST, though I can half-understand holding two. But I can't imagine ever having three. I'd always rather have one more prospect, there's always a flyer or five hanging out there as free agents that I'd like to have.

But again. That's a style thing. But that's the next thing I'd be looking at personally.

• How many RB/WR/TE/FX do you start? I see you apparently have 25-man rosters which is more than I'm used to, so that could make it harder to find worthwhile prospect free agents.

• I agree that you have a lot of really good guys, but limited superstars, other than old superstars.

• Another thing that is just my personal style is to not consider it a problem if I'm contending but failing to win it all. You could be the best team every year for five years and never win it, there's too much luck involved to assume that anything is wrong with what you have been doing if you are winning a good percentage of all of your matches. (Not that it means there isn't any way to do things better, either.)

Ten team, 4th year, regular ppr, 3 ts spots

Burrow

Barkley (traded 1.8 and Odunze for him), Pacheco, T Tracy, J Warren, J Williams, J McLaughlin, I Davis

Jet Jefferson, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, R Shaheed, K Shakir, S Diggs

Ertz, Friermouth

2.7, 2.8 (late 3rd picks are worthless imo)

TS A Richardson, Penix, Adoni

A part of me wants to move Higgins for a stronger RB2, but I don't think I can get anywhere near the value of just having him on my roster.

The starting lineup is QB RB RB WR WR WR TE FLEX FLEX DEF.

DEF can be a high scorer in this league. Some oddball rules. Most teams carry at least 2. But you're right. A good prospect is probably a better investment in a short bench league.

I've been trying to secure a superstar WR but just havent gotten any traction, mostly because the top 5 or so are owned by the other two strong teams in the league.

Anyway I appreciate the fresh set of eyes on the team. Hopefully things will fall my way this year and I can take home the 'ship!

I hope this doesn’t seem like a cop out of an answer but you can probably just keep your picks and use the draft to continually add BPA and stay contending for a nice long while.

Caleb Nix and Bryce should be on the rise and settling in as a solid trio.

Achane and Breece are plenty young and will likely get a 2nd contract and stay relevant for at least 2-3 more years.

Good depth at WR and some young guys who could ascend another tier (BTJr and Wilson. Odunze??) and be considered cornerstone guys.

I like your IDPs.

Just keeping drafting well and occasionally lean into any positional need that arises and I think you can keep this team in the running. Nice build.

Thanks. One thing I’m trying to do but don’t want to give too much, is upgrade my TEs. While a few of the guys on the team have potential, none seem likely to excel and I’m starting Ertz right now.
I made an offer of Kincaid and my 26 1st for McBride, with no response for a week (not all that surprising, many are taking a break from checking in). But I might be better off just hopping Ferguson, sanders or someone else develops. I have little faith in Kincaid after last year.

I like the idea of upgrading TE for sure but I’m holding out hope for a year 3 leap from Kincaid. Buffalo still hasn’t significantly upgraded their receiving corps and I believe the reports that he played through a lot of injuries last year and was just never right. I definitely think Kincaid’s value will bounce back quickly if he has a few good games in the first quarter/third of the season.

Not sure I'd take Kincaid + 26 1st for McBride in TEP or non TEP leagues. Might be worth looking at the chronically undervalued guys like Hock, Andrews, or even someone like Kittle. You can definitely get those guys for less than Kincaid + 1st.

Team seems built to win now so I don't think I would be lookong to move Higgins as much as I would be looking to upgrade at TE. You already moved your first for Saquon so it seems like you're pot committed to making all in play for this years title.

Seems like you're in at a decision point

Option A: Make one final push for a title and move all the picks you can for veteran RB help (Henry, Saquon, CMC, Josh Jacobs types)
Option B: Settle in for a rebound year or 2, move Godwin, Andrews, Njoku, Kupp, Kamara, Mixon, Wallker for picks.

On paper it's a very good team but with so many vets, it could sideways quick.

Ok 1QB, PPR, 2RB, 3 WR and Flex

QB: Hurts, Goff, Shough
RB; Gibbs, Hampton, Judkins, Montgomery, ETN, J Hunter
WR: Amon Ra, Devonta, DJ Moore, Aiyuk, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Jayden Higgins, Wandale, Iosivas
TE: Andrews, Likely, Fant, Fannin

It's a 30 man roster so I have a bunch other guys as well but most of them are likely useless.

I have already traded my 2nd rounder for 26 and am considering being aggressive to move my 1st as well. The team is in a weird spot. I took it over 5 years ago. The previous owner had went all in and missed leaving me with a line-up devoid of 1st round pick and washed up stars like Gurley and Julio who I couldn't do much with. I entereted a full on ground up rebuild and it looked like a total failure (Rondale Moore, Terrace Marshall, Denzel Mims and Jalen Reagor were some of the big draft picks early on). But then things clicked, some trades paid off and I found myself with the best team in the league blasting everyone only to finish runner-up of the 23-24 year. Heading into last year, I was the favorite to win it all. Brutal schedule luck got me off to a 0-5 start and I entered into a mini rebuild selling off James Cook and Tyreek. So I have a team that feels very win now but also has the young not quite ready yet pieces.

Any thoughts on how to play this hand?

Good mix of talent there. I think I'd hold were I am and focus on making a push in 2026. By then the young RBs and WRs will be sussed out and you'll know what you have. This team might also come together toward the end of the 25 season and surprise you. Hard to say right now, but we've all seen teams filled with rookies gel heading into a playoff push.

Being nitpicky, this team could use a bit more reliable depth. The 3 rookie RBs have question marks as do Golden and Higgins. TE depth could also be an issue given your two best TEs are on the same team.

12 team, 1 QB, 2 RB, 4 WR/TE, 2 RB/WR/TE, 15 keepers (only keepers listed)
QB: Burrow/Purdy
RB: Pollard/Stevenson/Spears/Guerendo/Ray Davis/Singletary
WR/TE: Chase/Lamb/AJ Brown/McBride/Mooney/Tre Tucker/M. Mayer

Drafted all of Chase/Lamb/AJ Brown/McBride/Burrow. Keep waiting for drafted RB's to hit (at one point had Laube, D. Pierce, Z. White, J. Ford, Prince) and it's just not happening the past 2-4 years.
Lost to runnerup in 2024. Lost to league champ in 2023. Runnerup in 2022.

No real help coming in the draft (1.10, 2.08, 2.10, 3.02). If I can't trade up will take a bunch of dart throws at RB in the deeper draft, again. Trading Chase/Lamb for an elite, top 3 RB has been kicked around with some interest from other teams but just can't seem to be able to pull the trigger. Offered Brown a few times but the quality of RB in return doesn't seem to exceed his good but declining value.

Keep current approach or try to trade from top end WR/TE quality strength to bolster RB?

AJ Brown should be able to fetch Achane. Or Bucky or Breece or Hampton with something added to it. You won't get Jeanty, Gibbs, or Bijan with Brown though.

At first thought it seems like you'd want to do a trade like that (Lamb for Jeanty/Gibbs/Bijan, or whatever). But in the end, seems like it would just be exchanging Lamb's points for the RB's points, since the rest of your starters wouldn't change. It evens out your positional scoring, but ultimately that doesn't matter. Note that I'm just thinking as I'm typing, lol. Seems like there's enough flexibility in your lineup settings that, in most cases, you're just starting your top 8 guys. I personally always like to try to stack two smalls for a medium-small, or two mediums for a medium-large, to pur it in general terms. It's always hard to find a taker. But it's usually a good move even if it's an overpay. But I'm so used to our league where we only start 5 at those positions. So I gotta really change my perception to think of your league. Depth is a lot more important. This may be minutia, but is that your whole roster? Meaning, without cutting anyone listed there, you can use all four of those draft picks, and no one else is left. I feel like I often play smallball, trying to stack a couple of my worst assets for a slightly better asset. Then it gets replaced by freeing up a late draft pick or free agent. Again this is just my style.
