The first and second pick have significant advantages this year (1 Viewer)

I picked #2 last night in a 10 team redraft and took Ray Rice. I was able to get Jimmy Graham at 2.09.

The first team took Arian Foster at #1, Gronk at 2.10, and Julio Jones 3.01. (I was obviously looking at Julio at 3.02 if he was there.)

It seems like you can get a stud RB, stud TE, and a stud WR out of the 1 or 2 spot. This seems to me like a significant advantage while everyone else is taking a QB or scouring up what's left of the RB.

Thoughts?

I haven't seen any real drafts where Graham or Gronk are available after the 16th pick. Even in my big $ league, Julio was the 15 th pick. So, no, don't see this situation playing out too often. You got lucky.

Why didn't you take Julio at 2.09, knowing you'd have one of the elite TEs come around to 3.02? Gotta work the guy on the end when you're one spot away. On topic, I've done a fair amount of mock drafting, and I absolutely agree the the front half of the draft has a major advantage this year. More so that any year I can remember actually. 3 RBs that you can feel relatively safe taking.3 QBs at the top that are all but stone cold locks to finish top 5. 1 WR that is almost a stone cold lock to finish top 3. The guys at the back half get to choose from injury prone, recovering, or questionably motivated RBs, 2 elite TEs, two QBs with one good year behind them, or a WR pool where the #2 guy looks only slightly better than the #20 guy.

Picked at the wrap, and got Chris Johnson and McFadden, then SJax and Gates the second go. Not seeing the significant disadvantage. These ten team leagues always end up looking like competing all star squads.

Getting CJ and DMAC is nice, but I'm talking about the potential for a team to get Foster, Graham or Gronk, and Julio Jones, legitimate #1 studs at all three positions.

Its not just this year that top of the draft has an advantage

Yeah, if you had the first pick last year, you could have taken Foster in the first and then Welker/Gronk. 4th and 5th and 6th rounds you could have got Fred Jackson, Cam Newton, and Jordy Nelson. Get some late round guys to hit and that is an unbeatable team.
I would do better if I could draft based on my knowledge of what will actually happen too.

The first and second pick have a significant advantage in every league/format always.

False. What really alleviates this is an auction rather than a serpentine draft.Another way to alleviate this without artificially inflating receiving yards is to adjust starting lineup requirements... require only 1 RB and 4 WRs.
Both are valid, but imo both are better than one or the other. Standard scoring is essentially TD only leagues to me in how dumb they are..1 Per Rush Attempt.5 RB PPR1 WR PPR1.5 TE PPR2 RB3 WR2 TEFLEXIs my preferred skill position requirements.
