The future of Felix Jones (1 Viewer)

I can trade d. Brown to the addai owner for Felix straight up. That's a low price but I haven't seen much from jones this season. I really don't want brown though. Feels like trading junk for junk.

I love both players next year, is this a dynasty league?

The situation has not changed despite the hope of Jones owners. They are enamoured and teased with his talent (as I have been at times) but part of this game is reading talent AND situation. Just like the Charles situation that I've avoided, i've avoided Jones this year. He MAY break out this year but the chances are much greater IMO of the situation staying status quo where Barber gets the lionshare and Jones gets the change of pace. That will certainly be the case if Jones continues to look pedestrian. The ONLY shot he has to take the reigns is if he is clearly the better RB which to date he hasn't been.

I'm trying to buy Barber and would probably hold Jones on my bench and my RB4 at this point along with the Forsetts/M. Bush's of the world.

 I'd add that he also needs an injury to Barber to have a more prominent role. A lot of people keep pointing to late last season when Jones shined as a reason why the Cowboys need to feature him more and why Jones is worth holding or trading for in fantasy leagues. They ignore the fact that Barber wasn't 100% then and that's one of the main reasons why Jones' role grew. It's one thing to be enamored with Jones' talent. I admit that I think he is a talented RB. It's also one thing to say the Cowboys should feature him more because Barber isn't a big-play threat. That may be true. But what fantasy owners need to do in my opinion is weigh those factors against his defined role. And right now, his role is to get 5-7 carries and maybe a catch or two every few games. He is not someone the team wants to give double-digit carries to, he is not someone who gets the ball near the goal line, he is not featured in the passing game and he is not getting the ball if the team is playing from the front (it was all Barber and Choice last Sunday against Houston). When you put all of those factors together, in my opinion it's very difficult to sit here and envision a more prominent role for Jones barring an injury to Barber. I see a lot of other sites saying the Cowboys should get Jones the ball more while ignoring what has transpired in the first three games. Through three games I would ask anyone to produce a single shred of evidence which suggests the Cowboys want to give Jones the ball more. I've watched all three Dallas games and I haven't seen any signs that is something the coaching staff intends to do. So saying they should do it is fine. But ignoring what they are actually doing is something Jones owners shouldn't be so quick to do in my opinion. If you're a Jones owner in a larger league and have the roster spot to spare he's worth holding onto in the event Barber gets hurt and his role expands. But if you own him in a smaller league or one with tight roster limits and there are productive players on the WW, I'm not sure that holding onto him and hoping for an increased role that may never come (or at least one that currently shows no signs of happening) is the prudent move to make. There's no question he could go off later in the season. He has that type of talent. But how much longer can you afford to wait? That's really the question.

I'm slowly coming to this realization in my redraft league and just dropped him for Sproles, return yardage league.

I'm cutting bait on him in a redraft league. I have Barber as well.

I think as long as Barber is healthy and getting goal line carries, Jones' value will always be limited.

I'm a former Felix owner who is thinking about buying again...

I sold because I thought he was too fragile. He still might be, but thats another issue. Jones has put on some weight since being drafted. 200lbs at the combine, tipping the scale at 220 now. The weight gain should help his durability, but I think he has lost a step because of it. Now instead of being a guy who can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball, he looks more like a back who needs 12-18 touches a game for that homerun.

So until he is getting more touches on a weekly basis, or shows more big play ability at 220, he is a hard guy to start. Now the fact that he is only 23 and has shown he can play with the big boys make him an interesting pickup.

Hes a buy, but he is also a stash for now. Just have to hope the owners asking price isn't too high.
How would added weight help hamstring and knee injuries?
If it's 20 lbs of muscle it will certainly help the body put less pressure on ligaments. JFYI-
I think that depends on where that muscle is (and a lot of other factors). With the extra weight I'm sure he'll feel better come Monday mornings, but I'm just not sure about the ligament claim IN GENERAL. I'd buy part of that if he's beefing up his quads etc. But toting around the extra weight itself may have a negative impact on his lower joints. Same basic ligaments with more torque on the joints.Anyway, the comment you make is probably fairly well accepted around here, but I'm just not sure all the factors are usually taken into consideration.
