The G-Men 2009 RB situation (1 Viewer)

3 Headed Monster again? Does Jacobs fly the coop? I am not sure on Bradshaw and Ward's contract situation - do they have much fantasy value?

I could keep Bradshaw relativley cheap, but not interested in their current format.

Thanks for the input, although this may need to be re-introduced in the off-season.

Both Ward and Jacobs are FA's after the season, so one of them is gone. Ward will clearly be cheaper to resign, as Jacobs is going to want a top #1 RB salary. I think the Giants might have considered letting Jacobs walk, and roll with Ward, Bradshaw, and Ware earlier in the season. However, with the way the Giants offense played without Jacobs in the lineup, i bet they keep him and let Ward go.

Bradshaw will get a boost in FF value next year either way, so i would definately keep him if you have the roster space.

I think the Giants really want to keep Jacobs especially after the W-L record they put up without him and Burress. Jacobs is the man that makes this offense work. I could see the Giants slapping him with the franchise tag if they can't sign him. Ward will likely want to go look for a full time starting gig. If I had to guess, and it is a guess, I'd say Jacobs stays, Ward leaves.

 Ware will probably play the role of "wind" next season

stays the same

I don't recall what was up contract/cap wise with Strahan and possibly coming out of retirement and all. Is there freed money available in 09 that wasn't in 08? There's some rumors Plax is gone, that'd be alot of $ available.(Nothing substantial just rumors)

Gmen might have money to spend

I would target Bradshaw BIG TIME next year. One of the top two will leave, likely Ward based on the above mentioned team oriented results with Jacobs in the lineup. If that's the case and Jacobs is the main guy and Bradshaw is the backup, he will be highly valuable with Jacobs' propensity to get injured. Either way Bradshaw could be a mid round gem.

Ward is likely gone - I don't see how they pay both him and Jacobs.

We should see a lot more Bradshaw next year. Of course, many of us thought we'd see a lot more Bradshaw this year. I'm very surprised we didn't.

I believe the Giants will attempt to resign both, but if push comes to shove, they will choose Jacobs. Bradshaw can play the role of Ward and Danny Ware looks like a legitimate talent, he may actually be a younger version of Ward.

Defenses just don't like to tackle Jacobs. You can see it as the game wears on and his runs get longer. Plus, he sets up the rest of the offense so well because you don't know if the Giants are going to run or pass when he is not in there.

I hope Ward gets his 1,000 yards tomorrow and we get to see Ware in the game.

The Giants really like Ware. So much so that they have been protected him on their 53 man roster all season and have reportedly rejected trade offers for him. I know they like Ward but with the cap as it is, there are tough decisions to make and they have money that is needed elsewhere, not the least of which is 3 picks in the first two rounds. (Thanks, Saints!)Unless they get a major 'home town discount' with Ward, I'd expect them to resign Jacobs, let Ward walk and go with Jacobs, Ware and Bradshaw for their top three RBs.

no HONDA intended...but, where does Ward go? Any thoughts?
Re-signs with the Giants or after no one else signs him he ends up late with the Patriots who get him cheap
I think there are more options than that. It's entirely reasonable to think Ward could wind up somewhere like Cincinnati (platooning with Benson), St. Louis (backing up the fragile Jackson instead of Pittman, who's been inconsistent), Arizona (starting, since the rest of them suck) or Seattle (likewise, though Morris is serviceable). It really depends on perception. GMs might be enamored with the huge success of this year's RB crop and think they can duplicate it in 2009.

The Giants or Patriots are my guess as to where Ward ends up. Of course there are other teams where he could land but I'm very confident that he won't get a big signing bonus with anyone. The perception of him fair or not is that Jacobs makes him the back he is. If he only is going to get backup money he might very well end up back with Giants.I think it is a common misconception out there that the Giants won't be able to afford to keep Jacobs and Ward. Jacobs will cost them but Ward won't.
