The Great 2020 All Time Movie Draft- The judging is heavily biased against me. It’s a hoax! Fake news. (1 Viewer)

Strangely enough, they were both nominated for Best Picture (being from the same year)... and neither won!
I actually just watched the movie that won a couple days ago. It's not as good as Maltese or Kane but it was a well made, quite beautifully filmed and apparently the all tiem favorite movie of Alex Trebek.

7.03 Joe Pesci, Supporting Actor

Tommy Devito - Oscar

Nicky Santoro

Leo Getz

Joey Lamotta

Frankie Monaldi

Harry

Nicky Cerone (underrated)

7.04 -- Rear Window, Suspense.

The film is considered by many filmgoers, critics, and scholars to be one of Hitchcock's best and one of the greatest films ever made. It received four Academy Award nominations and was ranked number 42 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies list and number 48 on the 10th-anniversary edition, and in 1997 was added to the United States National Film Registry in the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

The film received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and is considered one of Hitchcock's finest films. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports an approval rating of 99% based on 70 reviews, with an average rating of 9.16/10. The critics' consensus states that "Hitchcock exerted full potential of suspense in this masterpiece." At Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 100 out of 100 based on 18 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".

We have some coming off the board in the form of Spirited Away and Seven Samurai, so let's see how some more foreign movies fare in this draft, especially in non-foreign categories.

6.16:  CITY OF GOD - gangster movie

7.01:  PAN'S LABRYRINTH - fantasy movie

Of course I think these are top picks for the categories.  They also give me some flexibility, as I think City of God is one of the best movies of the 00s, so if I get backed into a corner I could move it there or into the foreign language categories.

For those playing along, Pan's Labyrinth is on Netflix, City of God is on Hoopla (whatever the hell that is) and is just $2.99 to rent on Prime - well worth it

@AAABatteries and @hagmania  are back OTC
Back to back home runs!

Watching a Hitchcock movie...It's so strange how he switches from on location, then in studio, then back on location again - all within the same scene.

Why would he do that?

The simplest answer is maybe they didn't get the shots they wanted from on location and had to do some re shoots in the studio to get the scene right.

Some great picks in here overnight/this morning. Strangelove is my all time favorite movie and Cuckoo's nest would also do well in the Based on a Book category. Been waiting to see these two get taken.

7.02:  The Maltese Falcon - 1940's

It's almost impossible to do write-ups without spotlighting but Maltese Falcon doesn't need me to pimp it.  Getting this in Round 7   :pickle:

@joffer
just watched this last week with two of my daughters, this was my 1st pick choice for the 40's as well.. so goood tremendous cast and a great finale!

yeah just catching up now, this was quite the run of movies that came off the board...

The visuals and the story of the restoration are great.

The movie's story? Ehhhh...

And I say that as someone that has two different Metropolis posters for his basement.

My favorite

And this one
The most recently restored version (around 2011 or so I think) prettymuch fills it all in.

It's a big story, without much explanation, and left to interpretation. Kind of classic sci fi in that respect, to be honest.

I have that second poster in my basement / office / mancave as well.

I will be away likely until 3-4pm est today. I'm a ways away from picking, but if I haven't checked in and hit the clock this afternoon, skip me.

this may have been clarified earlier, but the Score of a Movie is different eligibility than the choosing a movie for another non-music category, so you may see the same movie chosen twice on that account, is that correct?

You can always PM your pick to someone that picks after you

Yes it has been established score and song are separate from the movie and all 3 can be chosen.

It does. Showing why Rotwang wants to get back at Joh because of Hel was very necessary.

Finding the 16 mm version in Argentina of all places was a miracle.

This is the version to own.

7. The Joker- Villain

The Joker has only been portrayed 4 times live in the movies but 2 of those times the performer received an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Round 7 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Musical

Musicals is not a deep category for me so I'll grab one I love. It also gives me some flexibility for later.

In 1972, the film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score, and Wilder was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, but both nominations lost to XXX. The film also introduced the song "The Candy Man", which went on to become a popular hit when recorded by Sammy Davis Jr. and since covered by numerous artists.
The Candy Man Can
