The Holmes/LJ disaster (1 Viewer)

I was a fan of this strategy and tried it in a few leagues to good results so far.

That being said, it didn't pay the really big dividends expected for the one assumption many of us didn't question: that Kansas City's offense would stay as potent as it had been the past few seasons.

I do wonder if I could of gotten LJ later than the rounds that I ended up taking him though. I saw him go as early as the 3rd round or as late as the 7th, a lot of variation.
I got LJ in the 11th. I have no idea what the Priest owner was thinking. Come to think of it, I have no idea what I was thinking letting LJ sit out there that late. I just know that I now have LT, LJ and Westbrook in a PPR league and I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Time to push this up & eat some crow.

Taking Holmes in the first & L Johnson in the 5th looks to be a brilliant move right now.

Holmes produced like a top 5 RB or close to it while he was healthy, and now LJ in the 5th, give or take, is paying off in spades.

To those who promoted this strategy, great call.

To those like me who were detractors: :X
Almost as good as simply drafting Johnson 5th round or later.

I also have him to pair with LT for the stretch (got him in the 7th). Luckily cuz my 2nd back was Caddy (bum as of late).

I was a detractor and I can pull a number of semi-embarrassing posts up at this point...Turns out the Handeling of Larry Johnson was a key to most of my leagues.

But, I still say it was a bet on the injury status of Priest Holmes that turned out to be pretty lucky and a high risk gamble that happened to pay off - It won't every year.

Heck, I thought I had the same value of LJ in Najeh Davenport and given what Gado has done, I still believe that and Davenport was a guy you could grab MUCH later.. But, of course Davenport gets injured in his first game.... I Was also dealing with Ahman Green not lasting the whole year which I thought was a much better bet all around than Priest, especially for the price....

I'll still file this one under a bit of luck that could have gone a number of ways..

Overall, I stayed away from Priest and LJ and wound up getting smacked by LJ a bit which makes me reflect on this issue.

Did exactly this strategy (1st & 5th rounds) and have won 10 in a row now (if Driver does anything tonight). Considering I drafted CMart in the 3rd and Horn in the 4th, LJ and Marvin are all I've got going for me right now.

I was going to try this, but ... someone took SA over LT (I have no problem with the latter) and Manning went early so I took LT at 3. Holmes went 4, and they didn't take LJ on the way back in the 6th - figuring everyone had RB's. I shook my head, and told her I couldn't believe that pick. She's likely to make the bowl - and be facing my LT/LJ combo.

:own3d: I was laughed at for drafting LJ where I did in two leagues:

The first was a new 14-team dynasty start-up where I took him in the 2nd; the other was a new keeper/auction start-up where I paid $15 for him after a fierce bidding war with the Priest owner. I was literally laughed at for this one.

The sad thing is that I TOLD the Priest owner the night before the draft that I was going to pay whatever it took to get LJ. He still went for Priest and was surprised when I fought for LJ. In the auction league I am in the championship next week and have absolutely run the table with everyone. It's not even close.
