the IRON bowl (1 Viewer)

This Iron Bowl is headed toward something special. The odds makers' spread has Alabama a 4 1/2-point favorite as these two look as evenly matched as ever.

Further proof is found in AL.com's poll of sports writers from the state and those who cover college football nationally.

The 21 survey participants independently bucked the trends from previous Iron Bowl projections. Even before the 2013 Kick Six classic, 17 of 18 in-state sports writers polled by the AP picked Alabama.

This time, it's almost a dead heat.

Alabama got 11 votes. Auburn had 10.

The average projected final score: Alabama 25, Auburn 24.

Keep in mind it's in Auburn and Auburn already beat one number one team.

I think the tide win but it's going to be the game of the year.

game of the year?  really ?

Yes. Why wouldn't it be?

One of the best rivalries in the sport, winner almost certainly goes to the bcs, fair chance the winner becomes the national champion. The favorite traveling adds a bit.

What game would you rank ahead this year?

I think if Bama wins they are pretty much in - if Auburn wins they would still have to beat UGA to get in - no way they get in with 3 loses.

Game thread?

Stidham is the key...Gus’s O lives or dies with him. Weird stat...every drive vs UGA ended with a Stidham pass or run.  The biggest stage he’s been on.

Bama D getting a boost with the return of two of the four starting LBs they’ve lost to injury.

Is Gus gone? If so that could impact.

Worried as always for this one.  I felt fine until Mississippi State ran straight thru the defense.  That was a DLine problem, not so much the LBs.

I think they may get in even if they lose

Maybe, but it would be hard for them if UGA, Clemson, Wisconsin and Oklahoma win out.  Bama is the one team they may do that for but if they do it will be a #### storm.
If bama loses today and then au beats ga guess Auburn gets in with 2 losses?

I just wrote that UGA wins out - I have no idea what they would do in your scenario but you are giving a scenario where Auburn beats the #1 team twice (and maybe three times depending on where UGA ends up) - I could definitely see Auburn going ahead of Bama in that scenario - they would have 3 wins better than anything Bama has done and would have beaten them H2H.

And I doubt they put 2 sec unless multiple teams lose.

are we actually thinking that if AU wins out that they might not make the BCS?  I get that they have two losses but those 3 wins are more impressive than any other team achieved this year.

I don’t think so - was just responding to need2know. Auburn would have played 4 games against 3 of the best teams in the country and gone 3-1.  I think they’d have to be in.

Clemson wins against the Canes and they're a lock.  Miami probably gets in if they win.

Assuming OU beats TCU twice, they also have wins against tOSU and OK St.  Lost to Iowa State

Wisconsin beats tOSU and they deserve to be in.  They don't have any real signature wins but an undefeated Big Ten Champ gets in.

It's going to be interesting if Auburn wins and other things fall as expected.

Except of course that the Tide will beat Auburn, rendering this moot anyway.

Quick half...happy to be only down 3 but the offense has to be better...can’t run...OL and Hurts need to step it up.
