The JETS Running Game (1 Viewer)

Unbelievable fall in 2 short years for the JETS running game. What gives? Was it losing Faneca? The inability for them to pound the football will lead to their demise. Relying on Sanchez every week is dicey at best.

Shonn Greene is just not a very good running back. He got to play behind the best run blocking line in the league for a year and now that that's gone we're seeing a bad running back and an over the hill running back being asked to create something on their own when doing so is beyond either of their abilities.

At this point, I'm just hoping that Greene can finish a play without losing his helmet. Popped off 3 times tonight. Strap it on son.

In all seriousness, I don't think he's very good. He's a below average NFL RB.

The line played poorly tonight, and Connor was banged up at FB, but it was still a disaster on the ground. Gotta get better.

LOL, oh the panic of upset fantasy owners.
Other than 2 playoff games in 09 what exactly has Greene shown? 33 regular season games with 4 TDs and 2 100yd games. Hes a flex play at his best.

I wouldn't panic yet. The Jets were losing the whole game, so they never really had a chance to establish a running game. However, I do think that losing Woody will have a negative impact on their running game.

tough for a RB when he is hit as soon as he gets the ball.....awful night by the OL. Better days ahead for Greene

Ok keep hanging onto that 2 game playoff spurt, he was awesome in those games. So out of 39 total games in his career he has topped 100 yards 4 times, how could the coaches in NY be so blind as to not give this guy 20 touches week in and week out?

I don't expect it to improve next week. The Jaguars secondary can be beat, but the front seven looks very strong against the run.

And did he got enough carries in all those games? The fact that you cant see the context of why he is not performing is funny. He was sitting behind LT and Jones, now he gets a shot, and in his first game they trail and pass 75% of the time. lol HE IS HORRIBLE!Yup we all should take your football advice.ETA: Does Blount suck, he only got like 15 yards today, is everyone ready to cut him?

You seem to be very emotional about your players, the context is he has produced big games only a few times in his career and is still being outplayed by LT. Context is facts and numbers, he could very well develop into a top back and im by no means saying cut him. Fact is right now he looks like an average running back on a below average offense and is a flex play.

Please keep exaggerating.

Context: He will still be coming off the field on 3rd downs.

Context: Hes still going to be giving some carries to LT no matter the score.

Context: If the jets are down a reasonable amount in a game, LT replaces him.

Context: LT is still probably a better option at the goal line than Greene.

I also think the game plan became centered around attacking the banged up Dallas secondary.

While it was only the first game I can't expect Greene to do much if he doesn't get more than 11 carries. What happened to them saying he would be their feature back? Rex Ryan, Liar,Liar, pants of fire.lol.

They keep trying to hand hand the reigns over to Greene but he does nothing to show he's earned it. No vision, runs with some power but not a special rb. Cedric Benson lite.

The just can't kill LT. Im so glad I avoided the Jets offense.

All those are your opinions and talk about exaggerating.I keep saying facts. Also, as you notice I'm talking football...not fantasy. But then again in fantasy, any shark knows, you cant get a good feel for a player in week 1, lol.But hey, keep saying a guy who gets tackled behind the line because of a shotty defense has no vision.Again to point it out since you cant read, LT did nothing with his carries, and came out in the GL sets. Hmmmm, but the difference between me and you is, all i say is fact. you keep saying your opinion and thoughts....its why your wrong.

I think Greene can be a decent back, but he's generally not the type that can create a lot on his own. He needs solid blocking in front of him, and he certainly wasn't getting that last night. The OL was absolutely manhandled last night, both in the passing and running games.

I think some credit to Dallas front 7 is in order here.
This..Cowboys jammed up the gaps all night it seemed. Jets should of ran more screens. The one or two I saw them run were very effective with all the mad blitzing the Boys were doing.

This was a huge factor as well, they couldnt handle the edge with Ware, Mangold couldnt get a push, just not pretty against the 7, and sometimes 8 in the box on running plays. Rob ryan knows rex pretty well, and, maybe his game style. I never seen a team read run and pass so easy.

:goodposting: I'm not the biggest fan of Greene either for the record.

Agree. By the anti-Greene logic, we would have to panic on Blount, Chris Johnson, etc and be buying FJAX.Its a long season and last nights game unfolded a bit differently than what many people thought it would be. The jets are the type of team and greene is the type of back that is subject to games like this. But he is also the type of back on the type of team that, come December, could be winning you some titles.

shonn greene sucks like I have been telling everyone... his best game is 21 carries for a 60 yard performance, no catches and he doesn't score many tds... 4-6 points in ppr is Way below avg for a runningback and he was drafted in 4th round... eeeeek :hophead:

I think if Shonn Greene works really hard and dedicates himself to his craft he can eventually be as good as T.J. Duckett.

This is apples and oranges. Greene is NOT comparable to Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson has led the league in rushing for a whole season and now has several seasons of Top production under his belt. Greene? A whole lot of opportunity and unfulfilled upside. So, Green owners SHOULD be worried. CJ owners; not so much.

He is one of the all-time fantasy teases imo. He had that big game in the playoffs his rookie season. T. Jones was leaving, the Jets D looked like it'd be dominant. It sure looked like he was going to get the ball a lot on a win ugly team and in what little we'd seen of him it looked like he had the talent to be great. Couldn't have been more wrong.

Any new thoughts on Greene? Ryan said they will be a "ground and pound" team. Are we overreacting after one game thinking Greene blows?

Just wait another week and this thread will really take off.
Think the Jags D will be really good, I assume? While that's possible, I find it hard to imagine that the Jets ever trail by more than a score. With Revis on Thomas and Cromartie on Hill, I doubt Jacksonville gets going in the passing game. The Jets run D is very strong, and while Jacksonville won in '09, I think the Jets will be in good shape in this game.If Greene doesn't get 20+ carries this Sunday, then it's panic time. Greene looks like a guy who you should only start when the Jets are likely to win and get a lead early, and this looks like one of those games.

As a Jet fan (and Greene owner in a few places), I'd be lying if I said I was not concerned. We've heard a LOT, and we've even seen glimpses of "what could be" here and there, but at this point, we really need to see a 125 yard, 2 td effort. Yes, Dallas totally focused on the run, and I'm not quite ready to bail, but good running backs get yards and touchdowns. Right now, I have not seen a good running back. I've seen a lot of three yards and a cloud of dust. If he throws up another stinker or two (regardless of defensive scheme), the excuses are over, and it'll be time to see what McKnight/Powell can do.

People over react after week 1? Get the heck outta here, I never heard of such a thing here on these FBG forums.

Even when they are already wrapped up behind the line as they get the ball? Awesome, I wonder why we dont here more of guys doing this? Again, what about Blount, Lynch, Gore, CJ2K, Mendy, Charles, DeAngelo, should they all get hated on too?

Now yes some of them are stars and have proved themself. But in my world of fantasy the risk of some of them in this new year worries me more than Greene.

Cue all the people who dont read to say "How dare you compare him to CJ", lol...those people obviously wont get the point of what I'm saying.

Greene will get his.

I still like the comparison to TJ Duckett. That's if he reaches his potential.
Sure you do, as most haters do.That is not even an accurate comparison.
Why would I hate him if I own him in one of the FBG ultimate survivor leagues? Dude fell to me in the 6th round and everyone said, "nice pick, value, a steal". I was too gullible to not catch the sarcasm. Glad it's an all-play league.

Your Right ... Duckett scored TDs Greene has more fumbles, 6 (5 lost) than TDs 4 in his 2 plus years in the NFL.
LOL, that means so much to this year. Thank you for sharing.Comparing Greene to Duckett is moronic. Because your obviously haters.

DUDE, IT WAS ONE WEEK AND HIS FIRST AS A #1 GUY, THE GAME DIDNT TURN INTO A GROUND AND POUND GAME, REX HAS CAME OUT AND SAID THAT GAME DIDNT GO AS PLAN...HOW CAN ANYONE WHO UNDERSTANDS FOOTBALL NOT REALIZE THIS IS NOT GREENES FAULT? HE HAS NEVER BEEN THE #1 GUY YET, WAITING ON GUYS LIKE THIS AND NOT PANICING IS HOW YOU WIN LEAGUES, BUT I'M GUESSING OFF YOUR KNOWLEDGE YOU WOULD NOT BE AWARE OF WINNING TO MANY TITLES.
