The Mariners without Jeff Weaver... (1 Viewer)

So Are you assuming that whoever replaced Weaver would win every game?
 :lmao:
If Weaver's replacement went .500 they'd still have the second best record in the majors. So I'm not sure exactly what you're laughing about. Your own lack of math skills, perhaps?
What is the Mariner's record in games Weaver has pitched?
5-11, with Weaver going 2-10.
So in other words if the team went .500 with another pitcher, they'd have 3 more wins. Where would that leave them recordwise?

Jeff Weaver is 6 runs over replacement on the season. That means replacing him with a career AAAer, would be expected to yield the Mariners about half a win less. At the same time, he is 16 runs below average, which means replacing him with an average MLB pitcher would be expected to yield the Mariners approximately 1.5 additional wins.

With 1.5 extra wins, they would have the 4th or 5th best record in baseball.

What's more problematic is that the M's give up as many runs as they score, making their chances for the playoffs pretty bleak nonetheless. For example, in 13 of Weaver's 15 starts this season, his offense failed to score more than 4 runs (league average is about 4.9 runs/game). 11/15 they scored 3 or less.
