The Next 100 best movies from the 80's (5 Viewers)

I know people are looking for horror, but not sure if they were looking for good ones like this or cheesy horror that dominated video store shelves at the time.

Another great by Carpenter that just has an eerie mood to it. Keith Gordon is perfectly casted and Alexendra Paul really did it for me at the time.
Im ok for it being on the list, but #34? Can you unpack what you liked about it so much? Story originality? Acting? Cinematography?

Sure. I liked it because it's another great by Carpenter that just has an eerie mood to it. Keith Gordon is perfectly casted and Alexendra Paul really did it for me at the time.
One aspect of how the rankings are compiled is that it heavily weights any movie on all 3 lists. I think we may see a bit of a reverse top 10. We will see. However, I think the individual lists will be more compelling.

This is only 9 movies though, according to shuke, which is bonkers to me. I know I have some relatively obscure stuff on my list, but I thought there would be more overlap.

no qualms here...great inclusion.

Ever see:
Teen Wolf Too
Grease 2
Caddyshack 2

Grease 2 is a solid flick...take that to the bank brohans. Peak Michell Pfeiffer!

The others are trash.
Hated it when it came out…..and as I got older came to appreciate how corny it was in a good way. I watch it like a comedy these days…..when it happens to be on. And some of Musical numbers are hilarious now (Reproduction, Gonna Score tonight, Cool Rider).

Peak Murray.

In the first 100 I said there was a subgenre missing, and now here we finally have representation. Christmas movies! How was this grouping such an omission from the first list? So many classics.

And I know Gremlins and Die Hard technically happen at Christmas, but they're not what I'm talking about.

Putting Bill Murray in the classic story of A Christmas Carol was brilliant.

I haven’t thought of that in like 30 years

Wasn’t that while they were bowling?

I love the franchise, but hated the casting choice for the kids in this one.

Definitely the worst of the 80s trilogy (hint, hint), but still great and enormously quotable in real life. "Look kids, parliament" anytime we get lost driving. "Dad, I think he's gonna pork her" anytime we see PDA in public.

It's also one of the best dad joke movies of all time.

“- Clark Griswold: There's Buckingham Palace, kids. That's where the Queen lives and works.
- Audrey Griswold: Works? What does she do, Dad?
- Clark Griswold: She queens... and vacuums.”

“- Clark Griswold: I'll have a Coke.
- Stewardess: Do you want that in the can?
- Clark Griswold: No, I'll have it right here.”

I always loved the scene with the berets, where Rusty gets embarrassed in front of the hot girl by his dad (we've all been there) and they have a touching scene, and then he murders the annoying lady's dog throwing the beret off the Eiffel tower.

Honestly, because I hardly watch any and usually don't like Christmas movies. Elf, Muppets, Emmett Otter are about the only ones we watch consistently.
