The OFFICIAL 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

Eric Wedge is a moron.

A year ago, when the Indians were desparately scrambling to try to win a wild card, the Indians faced clubs that were totally out of the race. And those clubs, when in a position to play spoiler, they would send their best pitcher out there in the 8th inning and let him work the rest of the game to lock the win down and hand the Indians a loss.

But here, in 2006, Wedge is in position to play spoiler and smack the Red Sox around. Instead, he acts like its spring training and sends some nub out there who can't pitch to give away two games to the club that took their playoff berth a year ago.

Wedge doesn't have the heart, commitment, and drive to win.

Lots of yanks fans showing up in this thread... maybe there should be a Yankee thread for you guys to gather in....

gotta get your young guys some real game experience
There's gonna be plenty of meaningless games ahead for the Indians do to that.Wedge also has to show me some heart. And the Indians need to entertain their fans by ripping the Red Sox dreams away from them when they have a chance.

Another come from behind, ninth inning win...

Good job guys....
:goodposting: Thanks...
Sure.... leave off the best part of my post.... Yanks still in first.... :D Looking forward to the five in Boston later this month and the 3 down in New York in mid-September.
Those are the tickets I will be selling because that series will mean nothing
If you're so confident then sell them to me now at face. Where are the seats

The strange part is that this is the first I have seen of you in this thread. Can't imagine why that would be....Enough jabbering with Yanks fans. Once again the Comeback Kids get it done. Nice to see Lester pitch another good game, first inning notwithstanding. He definitely got a bit of luck too (pickoffs, Coco catch) but overall handled himself well.Time to knock the Indians out tomorrow night

bumpOr is this just shady running his mouth again?

no time like the present
Trust me, I saw plenty of games a year ago where teams were out of it and tried like hell to win instead of playing kids. That was a load of BS. If there is ONE issue with these Indians its that they lack heart. And you can see in this management style that Wedge doesn't have heart. If Wedge truly thirsted for victory, there is no way he could stomach managing like he did this series. And you either understand that, or you don't.

 Bro, I can get face value for them in September even when the series will be meaningless. Theyre behind home plate.

Bro, what you want for them then? You're certain they're worthless.... I don't think they are. I'd love to roll in behind home plate in our colors. What'cha wanting for them. I've got a couple round trip tickets I gotta burn by January...

According to this, the Sox turned down a Nixon for Abreau trade because the Sox were unwilling to pick up Abreau's contract for next season. That's a little hard to take, considering how these owners are making money hand over fist.

So you mean the Sox have waiver wire priority, and the Yanks can't block a catcher pickup? ;)
BOSTON -- The Red Sox have targeted Baltimore's Javy Lopez as their top target to help replace starting catcher Jason Varitek, industry sources indicated yesterday.

The Sox spoke to the Orioles yesterday, who confirmed that they would be willing to move Lopez, on the final year of a multi-year deal. Lopez is scheduled to make $8.5 million this year but has lost playing time to Ramon Hernandez and has asked to be dealt.

Lopez, who can become a free agent after this season, was disappointed that he wasn't traded before Monday's non-waiver trade deadline. According to a source, Lopez, like many players in the game, was placed on waivers Monday and is expected to clear this afternoon.

The Orioles aren't expected to ask for much in return for the 36-year-old Lopez. The catcher has approximately $2.7 million left on his 2006 salary, though the Orioles have indicated a willingness to absorb at least some of the remaining money in order to facilitate a deal. The more money the Red Sox pay, the less they'll have to surrender in terms of a prospect.

that'd work for 4-8 weeks. give the $$

yep. Gotta love those two thousandths of a percentage that ensure the Yankees cannot block the move.

It is an expensive move ($2-3 mill for 2 months work) but they have a gaping need right now, and it would certainly improve the team

and honestly it's a move the yankees would make, which is a good thing. i can't remember is he a switch hitter?

Not a SH, but a RH with some pop. Bottom line is that it is a reasonable upgrade over what the Sox currently have, so I expect it to go through

Interesting move by Theo. Lot of consequences, including:

1) Strong offensive upgrade to C

2) Sox now have a legitmate backup 1B

3) Theo silenced the 'thanks for making no trade deadline move' crowd

4) That dude Huckaby won't see more than 1 game behind the plate

Anyone who doesn't think this division is going to be decided by the NINE games they play against each other is just being delusional...

Kind of wish Yanks/Sox was the finals series of the regular season again like last year, but nine games head to head in a one month span (including 2 doubleheaders) will tell the tale...

has there ever been a walk off balk? talk about a way to end a game.

i doubt any ump in his right mind would call a game ending balk

If the Sox play against the Yanks the way they did against the Indians this year, their season's over.
