The OFFICIAL 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

What can we attribute this winning streak to? I think alot of it has to do with the NL East sucking. The Yanks and Sox are good solid teams in the AL but if they were in the NL theyd win 110 games each. I havent watched any Sox games but what can we credit the Sox doing to help in this win streak?
Getting solid starts by Lester, Schilling and Beckett coupled with playing error free ball for a franchise history high number of games. The bats are posting solid numbers riight now as well... averaging 7 or 8 runs/game during the streak. The result? They've outscored opponents 55-22 over those games.

Just a hot streak though.. don't expect them to run away with the east (not that anyone really did I guess).

Thanks. I didnt want my post to come across as demeaning. I just wanted to know what the Sox were doing to play so well. One reason I liked the pickup of Jason Johnson is cuz he leads the AL in groundball ratio and their defense is so good.

No worries... I know you're not usually in here to stir up ####.. nothing demeaning about the post  Johnson could do well with the Sox infield but I'm not holding my breath :D

[icon] i dont expect it. I think its a 3 team race all year. If the Yanks didnt have 2 heartbreakers in a row last week itd be a tie for 1st. I have a feeling those losses will end up costing the Yanks 1st place.

Not sure about that... yanks are still not healthy and yet are still pacing Boston. I wouldn't be TOO worried about giving up the division just yet. :) Agreed it's a 3 horse race this year though I think Toronto fades and drops a good 4-5 games out by the end.

Damn Schill is in a groove... after giving up 2 runs to the first 3 batters he's locked on.

9K's through 5 including 5 straight right now.

Great placement.. jumping out ahead in counts.

Boston needs to put a couple on the board here to really grab the reins to this game.

Schilling left in for the 7th after 106 pitches... promptly loads the bases.

DelCarmen in to try to mop up here....

Hansen and Lopez up in the pen as well

MDC gets one out then rollins singles. 3-3 with em loaded

Lopez coming in to face utley

Hrmm Francoma going to Papelbon with 2 down in the 8th after Hansen goes K / 2B / BB to put men on 1st and 2nd.

Hate to see paps come in like this but he's not pitched in a week.

Papelbon HAS stranded 11 of 12 inherited runners thus far this season..

EDIT: Paps hitting 97 on the gun... K's Dellucci to end the thread and take the Sox into the Bottom 8th

Paps definitely looking rusty right now after not being used all week. Nice double by Rollins.

Men on 2nd/3rd with 1 out... looking like Paps might give up his 2nd run of the season

HOLY ####... he K's burrell to get out of the bases loaded jam.

Unreal.
Striking out Pat Burrell in a clutch situation is unreal?I would've been more surprised if he actually made contact.

Was referring to the whole inning... after getting into a 2nd / 3rd with 1 out situation the kid did a pretty good job of digging out of it.... not bad for a rook.

you have to admit the manner in which he did, on 3 pitches was a little impressive.

Yeah, the kid is good. Burrell hitting .155 v righties with RISP. Guy is about as calm in big situations as a virgin on prom night.

:lmao: Yeah I know I know....

Kid got lucky on that grounder to get the out at home as well... no doubt

Paps K's howard to start off the 10th

Rowland steps in... paps jumps out 0-2..still hitting 97

EDIT: K's Rowland as well.... 2 down

Jumps out 0-2 on Dellucci......

Easy grounder to 2nd after K'ing 3 in a row.

:banned:

We need runs... he CAN'T go back out there after getting 7 outs already.

Jesus... Cora provides a bit of a spark.. let's see if Papi can work his magic.

Fenway is great in these scenarios.. .vibe not unlike old roman colluseums must have been like when a gladiator rolled out.

Listen to that crowd.... PAPI PAPI PAPI PAPI... this guy is a ####### God in that building

Damn I wish I was there.

i'll say it again. francona leaves people in too long. all the time. we won so it's all good but when will he learn???

Ortiz is just amazing. We're witnessing one of the most clutch players in the history of sports. Hes a step below Michael Jordan IMO. Just wish I could appreciate him more if he was on a different team.

Interesting side note... apparently papi called both walkoff shots this year.

Per the globe....On the 11th, he was prepping for his at bat watching video of Otsuka in the team clubhouse below the dugout and he told a couple players that if he got a chance to hit he was going to take him deep and end the game.

Last night he apparently told papelbon "that's it" right before walking up to the on deck circle and jacking another walkoff

No way you can not like Big Papi. What a great ambassador for the game. MLB would be wise to use him more often in marketing the game.
Only player that puts fear in me everytime he comes up. Getting him out late in games is a big thing.

Day game... listening via MLB.com Audio... Bottom 4th

0-0 after 4 innings of a pitcher's duel

Wake vs Lidle...6 hits total in the game thus far.

Phillies coming to bat in the 5th here in a minute
