The OFFICIAL 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

Honestly I tihink that could be the problem... or part of it. When you don't serve beer in the stands that forces two things:1) Fans get liquored up good outsdie the stadium to have a buzz that will last the whole game.

2) Fans sneak liquor into the stadum (more convenient) rather than just drinking beer

Both those outcomes result in drunker, rowdier fans....

RE: Pedro coming to Fenway

"Actually, I'm going to take him out to dinner," designated hitter David Ortiz said about Martinez, his former teammate.

 Pedro is a primadonna but I don't see the obsession with booing the hell out of the guy. We offered him some cash... he wanted more and went elsewhere. Bust his balls a bit but this is getting blown out of proportion. I pray the fenway faithful DO break into a who's your daddy if the sox get up big, however.

What ever happened to Nelson de la Rosa [Pedro’s pal who became a sort of locker room personality with the Red Sox]?

"Nelson needs help. He is a special human being. I haven’t seen him in a while."

But he says you broke his heart.

"He was angry that I signed with the Mets. He wanted me to stay with Boston."

So are you going to bring any lucky charms to New York?

"He was not my lucky charm. I’m not superstitious like some guys. It was Kevin Millar who thought this. I met Nelson through mutual friends and he asked to come to the game. I gave him tickets. And it so happened that we would win every time he came to games and people would go crazy for him, especially kids. Since we won some games, Millar started saying that he was the team’s lucky charm. But I am not superstitious. I only have certain routines that I practice."

Do you want to share them?

"I have two sets of underwear —a set that I wear for practice only, the other set I use to play."

I've sat in Yankee stadium bleachers a few times...It looks like to me that the person who made that video got the response he was looking for... Just too many people involved - looks like he probably antagonized the situation for that many people to even be aware he was there.....

I'd make a good bet that the person deserved the response and most likely is a ####.

But, I'm not one to wear enemy colors in their territory.....

I KNOW I could make a similar video in Fenway if I so chose.

:goodposting: But wearing Red Sox colors in the Bleachers is not the smartest thing to do.

For the entire section to get like that, this guy instigated it.

I had a bunch of guys yelling something at me as I was walking into Fenway 4 years ago, but I speak English thus, I didn't understand what the were saying.

wow a yankee fan making excuses - shocking. So you think he did something that was seen / heard by the entire bleacher's section and that a red sox fan just wearing an authentic Jersey and cap would not get this type of response? Yeah that must have been the case

Alias...think you are wrong here. The filmer most certainly antagonized the crowd. If a Yankees fan tried that at Fenway he would get a similar response.

Now, a Yankees fan that is there to watch the game has no issue at Fenway. Having never been to the toilet I can't comment on the situation there

I have seen Red Sox fans NOT get that treatment - And the guy just happens to video tape the whole thing......Whatever - Rarely do I enter this Yanks / Sox mess.

I know IF I wanted to make such a video in Fenway I could.

Was he being escorted out or just walking to his seat? I have been to the toilet but never sat in the bleachers - if the exits are up top (doubtful) then I might buy he was wearing a yankees suck shirt - since he would get escorted out if he was wearing that underneath a sweatshirt or something. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he took out his video camera and just walked into the bleachers wearing full red sox regalia. I mean c'mon we are talking about the bleachers at yankee stadium. I don't even think they allow people to wear red sox jerseys / caps in the bleachers anymore - they make you take it off - but perhaps someone can prove me wrong.

I agree here.

TONIGHT'S GAME

Pitching matchup

BOS: LHP Jon Lester (2-0, 2.76 ERA)

Lester put on a phenomenal performance against Washington last week by striking out 10 and giving up only one run and three hits for his second victory in three career starts.

NYM: RHP Alay Soler (2-1, 3.32 ERA)

Soler comes off a disappointing start against the Reds. He allowed eight hits and two walks and needed 100 pitches to get through five innings. Will Fenway Park create a culture shock for him?

Player to watch

Right fielder Trot Nixon has raised his average from .317 to .326 since June 17 and leads the Red Sox in batting average. He has five extra-base hits in his last five games.

Lester with another 1-2-3 inning with a K

EDIT: Tek gives one a ride but falls a few feet short.

BTW.. word is Hazel Mae will be going to ESPN after this year

5-2 Sox... here's to hoping Tito has someone up in the pen in case Lester continues with the 4th inning jitters

EDIT: Jesus, Lester... how do you hit a guy with an 0-2 count :wall:

Once again... someone fails to respect the arm of Manny in shallow left.

NIce job blocking the plate by Tek

Reyes.. hope the shoulder isn't bad.

LESTER...YOU HAVE GOOD STUFF... THROW ####### STRIKES

Not too keen on the Crybaby coming in...

Hell of an at bat by wright so far... 10 pitches...

K!!!! He gets Wright with the bases loaded

:banned:

Final numbers for Lester:

5IP - 4H - 2ER - 5K - 5BB

Kid needs to quit trying to be so fine... not very efficient yet. He's still quite young.... great outing up until the 4th and 5th

Went for a jog.. Mets got one somehow.

Sox up 8-3 right now... close to catching that 10th straight win

GB Interleague Vacation...NL blows
Ain't that the truth (Reds fan - can't even beat the Royals :bag: ).Cleveland is the only AL team with a losing record over the last 10 (4-6), and they're beating the snot out of the Cardinals right now.

is this true? if so, extremely lame.

TONIGHT'S GAME : Beckett vs Martinez

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (9-3, 4.84 ERA)

In his last start, Beckett set season high marks in strikeouts (eight) and innings pitched (eight) and carried a perfect game through 5 1/3 innings. His command and fastball were sharp and his breaking ball was moving more than it has all season.

NYM: RHP Pedro Martinez (7-3, 3.01 ERA)

Martinez heads to his old stomping grounds at Fenway Park, set to face the Red Sox coming off a win against the Reds. In that game, he allowed two runs on two hits and eight strikeouts over six innings.

Player to watch

Coco Crisp is batting .371 (13-for-35) since June 18. Crisp looks to have finally regained his stroke since returning from injury and will be a welcome addition to Boston's already potent offense.

From RSN.net:

Game Time: 7:05 pm

Scheduled Starters: Pedro Martinez (7-3, 3.01) v. Josh Beckett (9-3, 4.84)

Boston weather: noon observation at BOS: Wind out of the south at 16 mph, visibility 3 miles in rain and mist, few clouds at 1,900 feet, broken clouds at 2,400 feet, overcast at 3,600 feet, temperature 71F, DP 66F

Forecast: Not real good... The rain started here in Medford about a half hour ago, and it's raining pretty hard...

There are likely to be periods of rain with thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. There's a large area of rain moving toward the east. It's a fast-moving system, though, and it's possible that we could get a window and be able to play. Right now, there's covective activity in central NH, but nothing in the Boston area or Central MA. The models are forecasting the heaviest rain west of the Connecticut River.

No rain 10 miles west of Boston right now. Definitely breezy though. Probably 15-20 mph wind.
