Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski (back) is questionable for Week 1 against the Titans.
Janikowski was limited all week with a back injury but should be a go for Sunday's opener. The Raiders signed Giorgio Tavecchio to their practice squad as insurance in case Janikowski suffers a last-minute setback.

I don't know if I feel comfortable rostering a guy on a team with two kickers. One miss from Gano and Rivera could let the other guy kick.Any word on Gano? Starter still for Panthers? I thought I had read somewhere he was on the roster bubble but didn't hear anything else.
Lambo the biggest surprise so far. Looks like I underestimated the number of cuts, given that there have been 5 so far and my numbers add up to 4.2 total cuts for the entire season. Here is my kicker job security list, where the number is something like the probability that the kicker is the yearlong starter for his team, assuming no new injuries. (I posted something similar before the 2016 and 2014 seasons.)
0.98 Cairo Santos KC
0.98 Adam Vinatieri IND
0.98 Matt Prater DET
0.98 Brandon McManus DEN
0.98 Dan Bailey DAL

0.94 Stephen Gostkowski NE
0.94 Matt Bryant ATL
0.92 Wil Lutz NO
0.90 Dustin Hopkins WAS
0.89 Robbie Gould SF
0.88 Caleb Sturgis PHI

The numbers are my guesses, after looking at relevant sources of information (depth charts, news stories, contracts, etc.).
I'll be watching the inactives list for Carolina. No way you can trust and start Gano otherwiseI don't know if I feel comfortable rostering a guy on a team with two kickers. One miss from Gano and Rivera could let the other guy kick.
Gano stinks.I'll be watching the inactives list for Carolina. No way you can trust and start Gano otherwise
Raiders placed K Sebastian Janikowski (back) on injured reserve.
It's a surprise after Janikowski practiced all week and was listed as questionable for Week 1. He'll now miss at least the first six games before being eligible to return. The Raiders promoted Giorgio Tavecchio from the practice squad to replace Janikowski.

Ah yes, Giorgio Tavecchio.... Neapolitan gigolo? No.... Famed Venetian cellist? Nooo...Giorgio Tavecchio
Lutz any good? Seemed like the best one left on the ww (I didn't draft a K.)Ah yes, Giorgio Tavecchio.... Neapolitan gigolo? No.... Famed Venetian cellist? Nooo...
The new kicker for the Oakland Raiders NFL franchise.
Yes he's good.Lutz any good? Seemed like the best one left on the ww (I didn't draft a K.)
U B KOO NOWGot younghoe in all my leagues. I generally pick my kicker based on names so was an easy choice.
Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski (I.R.) won't require surgery on his injured back.
Janikowski is out with a disc issue but could return in eight weeks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Giorgio Tavecchio will handle the kicking duties during his absence.

Broncos signed K Brandon McManus to a three-year extension through 2020.
A restricted free agent last offseason, McManus had been playing on a one-year tender. Signed as Matt Prater's mid-season replacement in 2014, McManus has become the most accurate kicker in Broncos history, converting 82.9 percent of his field goal attempts. He's missed only two extra points, and is 8-of-15 beyond 50 yards. He turned 26 earlier this year.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Eagles K Caleb Sturgis will "miss several weeks with a quad strain in his plant leg."
It is unlikely the Eagles will burn a roster spot on a kicker if he is going to miss multiple games, so it is possible he is sent to injured reserve with the intent to bring him back later in the season. Philly will work out kickers this week.

Eagles placed K Caleb Sturgis (quad) on injured reserve.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Sturgis will be a candidate for return, but he'll be out at least eight weeks. If Jake Elliott performs well in Sturgis' absence, the Eagles may not bother activating him. Sturgis was one of the league's better kickers in 2016, but the Eagles could end up with bigger I.R./return fish to fry.

Eagles signed K Jake Elliott.
Plucked off the Bengals' practice squad, Elliott will be filling in for Caleb Sturgis (quad, injured reserve) for at least eight weeks. He was the No. 153 overall pick of this year's draft. There's a non-zero percent chance the Eagles end up settling on Elliott as their kicker of the future.
Best line I've seen on here in quite a while.it's that time of year when a young man's thoughts turn from seabass to younghoes
Panthers waived K Harrison Butker.
The Panthers had to drop him to make room for CB Ladarius Gunter, who was claimed off waivers from Green Bay on Wednesday. Butker made the initial 53-man roster but ultimately lost out to Graham Gano. There's a good chance he'll revert to Carolina's practice squad if he clears waivers.

Raiders kicker for real?
Grabbed him to replace Sturgis. If nothing else he'll be fun to root for.Raiders kicker for real?
He hit two 50 yarders. Offense good. Playing the Jets, so hopefully a lot of points. What's not to like?Raiders kicker for real?
Same here. Tavechio may have some off weeks but he should get opportunities in the raider O.Grabbed him to replace Sturgis. If nothing else he'll be fun to root for.
Who knows but he sure has an interesting story:
Meet Giorgio Tavecchio, the Raiders’ unconventional new kicker

As a italian American I decided to pick up the Italian stallion. This way if he sucks and is benched/released I can use the Kapernack strategy of playing the race card and calling the owners racist.Grabbed him to replace Sturgis. If nothing else he'll be fun to root for.
As of right now I think he is supposed to be back around then. As an Italian American I'm not going to be a race traitor and ride this through with the Italian Stallion. Are we assuming Janikowski comes back Week 8-9? This Raiders kicker has looked good yet FBGs has him ranked 26th rest of season as if he's not kicking much longer.
Can they really replace this kid if he's doing real well? They might leave SeaBass on IRAs of right now I think he is supposed to be back around then. As an Italian American I'm not going to be a race traitor and ride this through with the Italian Stallion.
Hope not but that is a good questionCan they really replace this kid if he's doing real well? They might leave SeaBass on IR
Are we heading toward a point where teams just use their kicker slot to target ethnic fan niches? Italians get GT, Koreans get Koo, Armenians get Garo Yapremiam Jr., etc. And then when the Raiders cut Seabass, Poles switch their loyalty en masse to the Pats, since they have Gostkowski. As of right now I think he is supposed to be back around then. Whatever happened to Martin grammatical? Are we heading toward a point where teams just use their kicker slot to target ethnic fan niches? I seem to remember seeing a statistical study on here years ago that basically showed the top 5 kickers after the first 4 weeks (or close to that) correlated very strongly with top kickers at the end of the year.I'm just rolling with the Italian kicker. Didn't expect 6 TDs and only 1 FG, but he still got me 9 points. So random. Just pick the kicker on a good offense. Perhaps the Oakland offense is too good and I should be looking for a so-so decent offense.
It's been a rough time for us Hungarians since Gogolak retired...don't know which team to root for anymore.zftcg said:Are we heading toward a point where teams just use their kicker slot to target ethnic fan niches? I just picked up Tavecchio in another league off of FA. Cut Walsch free. Wondering about cutting Lutz for Tavecchio in another league where he is still available? I always liked the movie Rocky, the Italian Stallion.I seem to remember seeing a statistical study on here years ago that basically showed the top 5 kickers after the first 4 weeks (or close to that) correlated very strongly with top kickers at the end of the year.
So I see the Tavecchio with a strong shot to finish as a top kicker. I fully expect them to keep Seabass on IR if Tavecchio continues to play well. If they cut him he would be claimed in a NY minute.
Could have cheered for the Pats when they had Zoltan Mesko as their punter. Maybe the Panthers since Mike Shula is their OC? (Don's parents were immigrants.) But really, it's all been downhill for the Magyars since Larry Csonka and Joe Namath -- excuse me, "Németh" -- retired. It's been a rough time for us Hungarians since Gogolak retired...don't know which team to root for anymore.
Succop is mighty tempting to add and hold. My one concern is this week with Seattle albeit at home, not at SEA.I seem to remember seeing a statistical study on here years ago that basically showed the top 5 kickers after the first 4 weeks (or close to that) correlated very strongly with top kickers at the end of the year.

Both Succop and Ghili were available in my league. I went with Succop based on his longer track record and guarantee of keeping the job.Succop is mighty tempting to add and hold. My one concern is this week with Seattle albeit at home, not at SEA.
