I love me some Ian Snell. On the other hand, it appears as though Ronny Paulino's 2006 was a fluke of epic proportions...

I agree on Paulino. He just looks like he is having terrible at bats every single time, whether he gets hit or not. Although, they mentioned on the broadcast last night that the Pirates actually have a winning record when he starts behind the plate. I can only assume this is a fluke, although his game calling was all the craze last year. Snell = :moneybag:

Pirates now lead the league in being shut out following 2 consecutive shut outs at the hands of M's and yes, including the one by Jeff Weaver who had a ERA over 10.00. :(

The walkout on Saturday by the fans should be interesting.
It always works real well at Detroit Lions games
The Lions have been to the playoffs 5 times since the Pirates have been there. What do they have to whine about?
Maybe the fact that they've never been to the superbowl?
Then the Lions fans are protesting something totally different.
:bag: Outside of the sporting event they are attending, and city it's happening in, what could possibly be different?

They're protesting that they've never been to a title game, the Pirates fans are protesting that they haven't had a winning season in 15 years.Like I said, totally different.

Not all that different to me. Both are indications of a hapless franchise. In the case of the Lions, they've been pathetic for most of the existence with a few mediocre/solid seasons sprinkled in. In the case of the Pirates, they've been hapless fo 15 years but do have some history. In any case, the fans of both teams have suffered dearly.......

You are throwing around apples and oranges when we're talking about bananas. They are both protesting ineptness in general. And both sets of fans are as bad at these protests as the franchises they are attempting to show their displeasure towardshttp://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10242283

PITTSBURGH -- Despite a much-publicized effort to display fan discontent during the Pittsburgh Pirates' 15th consecutive losing season, only a few thousand fans at most in the crowd of 26,959 left their seats in protest following the third inning of Saturday night's game against Washington.

Only about 100 fans were seen leaving the ballpark immediately following the third, and it appeared that many of the fans who vacated their seats returned not long after leaving.

Organizers who staged a pre-game rally outside PNC Park wanted fans displeased with the Pirates' low-spending ownership to walk out of the ballpark -- fittingly, on a night the club gave away bobblehead dolls honoring former Pirates pitcher Bob Walk.

While the anti-ownership effort was the most organized of any during the Pirates' run of losing seasons, which began under previous owners in 1993, it wasn't very successful. Fans unhappy with the club were asked to wear green shirts, but many who did stayed in their seats.

Efforts by some spectators to start a derisive chant about the Pirates' ownership failed, and some fans booed those green-shirted fans who left their seats.

"I totally understand the fans' frustration," Pirates principal owner Bob Nutting told Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh during its game telecast. "I respect the people who are trying to make a statement."

Nutting also said he appreciated the support of the fans who stayed in their seats.

The protest effort may have been harmed by an unlikely source -- the Pirates' offense. One of the majors' lowest-scoring teams scored six runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead only an inning before the walkout fizzled out. The Pirates went on to win 7-2.

Yeah even the Pirates fans can't get it right.........

Won 2 of 3 against the Brewers so far, a win this afternoon would be a nice way to start this little stretch against some better competition.

Just when I thought the Pirates couldn't do anything that makes any less sense than what they've been doing for the past 15 years, they go out and trade for Matt Morris. Does anybody in this organization understand the game of baseball?

So can anyone explain where this team has been all year? In the last 30 days here are some batting averages:

Phelps - .556

Nady - .393

Wilson - .386

Sanchez - .353

La Roche - .346

Doumit - .295

They're batting .293 as a team over the past 30 days and have hit more HRs over that stretch than everyone except the Yankees.

Why does this team always wait until they're completely out of it before they start playing?

They are a cold team that gets a mild streak every now and then. It would be nice to see them climb out of the cellar in the next few years.

Steve Pearce is a nice story this year. Started the season in A, proceeded to progress to AA, and AAA, hitting .333 with 31 HRs and 113 RBI. First game in the majors tonight went 2-4 and was robbed in his first at bat by a diving catch by Hall at the warning track.

This kid Nyjer Morgan can play some centerfield. Anyone see that catch tonight? And the one against the Cubs last week was pretty impressive.

Who is the closer, Torres or Capps?
Capps. Got his 17th save tonight.
Any consideration to Torres? He's a FA in my fantasy league and he's listed at closer in the always reliable yahoo depth chart :lmao: . I didn't know if they were splitting duty, but its 100 percent Capps? That was what I thought, you dont' find closers on the wire this time of year but you find plenty of wishful thinking!

His last save was in May.

Cool, thanks for the info, I didnt know if things changed!

The race is on for worst record in all of baseball. Utterly disappointing season. There seems to be some talent on the roster, but clearly not enough of it.
